Enjoy watching your videos Jo, particularly the M135/140 vids. Hoping to buy one myself in the next few months. Great cars and I agree with you, probably best bang for buck on the 2nd hand market. Keep em coming. Cheers, Jon.
Okay, I really think I made the right decision. I ordered the M140I as a Business car, so it's my every day car. It Comes with almost everything, 5 doors, Automatic, X-Drive, the business navigation system, all Kind of assistants and many more. So I think I have to earn a lot of Money within the next two or three years to order a naked M2 with a manual gearbox, just for the fun. Thank you for this test. I had a lot of discussions with my wife in the last few months. And now I'm glad I didn't ordered the M2 as my everyday car. Nice videos by the way. Cheers, Flo
How the hell have I only just come across this content..... I first started watching you in the m140i days. Trying to find where you switched from the m2 to the m140i. Brilliant Joe even way back 👏
Nice video. I have an M135i also and love it. The M135i and M235i share the same chassis so the wheel base is the same. I drove the M235i and could tell no difference myself, if anything it felt a little heavier, all be it not on a track constantly at the limit.
Just got an M2 Lci (black with pretty similar spec to yours dct harman kardon etc) and really enjoyed this vid. Love the car and love how it feels. Done 450 miles so far, just trying to keep under 5.5k rpm is difficult but yea I agree it feels like a little monster. I came from a 981 cayman S and the fact that I dont feel short changed in the M2 speaks volumes. Great vid keep em coming.
Great video. As a prospective M140i buyer, I'll be watching closely to see if the new engine is as reliable as the one in your M135i as they have an exceptional record for reliability and as someone who keeps their cars for a long time, that is important to me.
I’m enjoying all your older videos Joe. I’ve got time on my hands right now, so thought I would go through your BMW lights back catalogue videos. Loving them 👌 you’ve come a long way on your presenting & commentaries buddy. Great your channel is rightly thriving
You said something about being older than the target audience? When I was around 25, there was no way in hell I could afford a car costing över 35k £. (Being a Swede, over 400.000 SEK). As I am 44, and thinking about one of these, or rather the M140i, I think most people buying a new car in this bracket must be around "our" age. Btw, great videos!
@@rampage3337 definitely not, this is what people under 25 get because it's in a cheaper insurance group here in London, then people move onto C63 and m4's at 25.
Hi Joe, another great video. As an M135i owner - and with the M140i now available - hard to justify £45k for the M2 when brokers can get you in an M140i for £26/27k. M2? My heart says yes. My head says M240i. Keep the videos coming and enjoy both cars!
Thanks for the great video and commentary! Here I am with a 2017 M2 on order (with unfortunately no definitely ETA yet since the order status remains at just 111) and wishing the 2017 M140i would be made available here in the US. Reading about that new B58 modular platform, I have these grand visions of it producing big power figures once the tuner market gets familiar with it. A tuned M140i xDrive with proper wheels/tires, coil overs, etc. would be quite the fun vehicle to own. Thanks again!
I think adding the optional mPerformance LSD would bring the 140 a step closer to M2 handling... Couldn't find one to test drive but did try out the M2 and it's absolute blast to drive... trying to decide between the 2...
Another great video Joe, just picked up my 135 yesterday, BMW owe you a few £ in commission as your videos sold the car more than their salesman. Keep up the good work 👍
Great vid Joe. Spot on review. I love how the m135 is a sleeper but people who know cars will come up to me and say "so how's the m135?" Forgetting about value though the m2 is something special. Has genuine presence. Keep the reviews coming Joe - very enjoyable.
Cheers Wade. Yeah man I love sleeper cars & the 135 does it so well, as you say those who know will know... The M2 attracts all types of attention, but in a nice way, not like a Red Ferrari haha
The M135i video is driving right through my neck of the woods, it only clicked after 10 mins! good video, got a 440i on order (sept) so happy to share views on the b58 vs your n55...
You talk about "limits" it'd be interesting to see a comparison vs an S3 or Golf R - If you've driven them, which can you push further with those being AWD? I wish they'd bring the xdrive m140i to the UK!
ive had my 135 for 4 months now. the mpg average is 29mpg. the one thing i would say about the car is that as soon as its anything but a bone dry road then in my opinion there is too much power and you can simply forget about full firm acceleration as traction control kicks in. it is however a BRILLIANT car and is very easy to live with.
Very nice in depth review. I really wish bmw would bring the m140 to the states. I've always preferred a hatch due to the versatility. I do plan on getting the m235 though since I doubt they ever will. Love your videos. Keep up the great work.
Spotted the Watford roads there ;) I don't have adaptive suspension and I can independently set drivetrain (aka steering only) to Normal while in Sport mode, keeping the steering nice and light. Although in Sport+ the steering still becomes heavy. Wish BMW gave more freedom over the options!
Okay. I've come back to this because I have the opportunity to watch the whole thing. Really detailed, honest and enjoyable video Joe. I"m nowhere near your subs so take this with a grain of salt. I know it's not your full time thing and really appreciate you taking out the time with this. Personally I think people may get put off seeing 40 minute videos on RUclips (short attention spans and all of that). So perhaps would have been good to have a part 1 and part 2 and then some bonus content (part 3) of pure BMW fun. Really informative though and loved this.
Cheers buddy, I totally agree with you man! I'm trying really hard to make sure any new vids are less than 20 mins... If I have too much, I will break into 2 or 3 videos as you suggest. Joe
Such a brilliant video. Currently on holiday but paid the £10 for wifi just to watch it haha, well worth it! Can't wait for the videos with Tim. I love the M2, and your spec. Heard a couple of rumours your selling :-( ? Thanks for the video buddy, can only imagine the amount of time spent! :-)
I'm on my 2nd M135, what I will take away from your review , it makes sense and what I had already suspected is that you don't get a 50% better car. Buy an M2 if you have the dosh but don't be shy when driving past one in your 135 because your in one hell of a machine. Cheers mate for the comparison. Next mission is for you to drag race them on a airfield, why? I dunno lol Take it easy and thanks.
@@juskillz5229 Hey, Since that comment, I ended up buying the M140, eventually ended up in the M2 a year ago, Hand on heart, for ME! the M2, is better in every aspect apart from the boot space. Good luck dude.
Cracking video. Your videos were instrumental in my decision to buy an m135i. I ultimately ended up buying an m140i. Now I just have to wait until September for it to be delivered. Thanks.
Well Joe, from that I'm thinking you want to sell the M2 for what you bought it for or a touch more (market is strong) and buy an M140i with the auto box? That's certainly what I've taken from your review as I was on the fence - dealers are offering 8k discount of a new M140i - that's the best bargain in the car world right now!
I’m blaming joe for my new purchase of a 240i . not got one yet still looking for the right one , is there any type of owners club / sites apart from the normal eBay etc where I can look 👍👍👍joe .
It´s very easy to change the settings regarding the steering wheel and suspension Joe ;) I have my sport setting set to only engine so the suspension and wheel are the same as in comfort. Sport + is then hardcore all the way, have adapt suspension too.
Great vid again. I can vouch that the M-lite holds its own against the proper M cars. I just took mine on an Alps road trip with an M3, M4 and 911 C4S and I managed to keep them all honest in the M135i. The more miles I do (around 5K now) in mine, the faster its seems to get.
Great to hear, its fun hustling mega money cars in a 30k hatch haha. Yeah my old auto felt at its best when I chopped her in with 23k miles under her belt
alright mate. watched a few of your videos and saw you bought your M2 from hailsham? I got my m135i from hailsham recently. got the BMW LSD fitted too. if you want to check it out sometime I'm up for a blast in Sussex
Already saw a turquoise/green M2 lurking round from where iam, and it ain't you're average long beach blue. Since when did individual colours come so quick out the factory? Don't they take ages to make?
Fabulous to watch pal. Great comparisons given, and you didn’t harp on too much. I’ve only got an Msport 118d and that still drives ace, so I can only imagine how great those cars are to drive. Thanks for posting.👍🏻
I just put a deposit down on a 2020 M2 Comp a few days ago. To be honest, it was almost certainly an irresponsible decision. I live in the northeast and this will be a daily, although I work from home so that doesn’t demand much. I haven’t even seen one in person, let alone actually driven one,and I’ve also never owned a BMW. I currently have an S3 so Audi also would have given me $1500 in loyalty bucks. (Although the BMW dealership actually dropped $1000 off MSRP which most people seemed shocked by. My sales lady is new and she to,d me her sales manager was mad the next day for giving me the discount but who knows if that’s just car salesmen BS. I definitely got the discount though) So the RS3 would have been the “smart choice”. But I wasn’t really interested in being responsible. I wanted the most exciting ride for the money, and the manual transmission was a must have this time because I don’t think you’re even going to have the ability to get them soon, at least in anything that isn’t a super car. So now I wait, and hope the M2 is as good as I think it is. (Leap of faith) BMW should pay Joe, because his videos are what pushed me over the edge. You just can’t fake sincere enthusiasm like that
Great video again, well worth the wait! I ordered an M135i back in Jan after watching your videos. Love it! Now a mate has ordered an M140. You've got to get hold of one and do a little comparison video.
Just found you channel this last month great vids Joe! Had an m135 for last couple of years and love it but pulled the trigger on an M2 just got the the 12-18 month lead in now. Yes it's more £ but there's something special about M cars especially this one v excited!
Hi Joe, great review..I am also confused after watching this video..I currently drive an M235i and I have an M2 order in place.. Is it worth buying one as M240i sounds interesting and new engine... For an M2 money it is possible to get 718 cayman, used R8 etc... Not sure if an M2 CSL is a close reality.. Appreciate your help
Joe, another well balanced and entertaining review. I have the auto version of your car in orange (!) I absolutely love the fact that it can, as you say, use it for a supermarket run or have a tear up when you are able. Keep up the great work! PS used to live in the Bucks area that you drive in which adds to the fun.
Awesome man, I love the orange, never had balls big enough to buy one though... Glad you agree re the M135, and yeah well spotted re the roads haha. Cheers man
Glad your real job is keeping you busy, and thanks for sharing your hobby and passion with us! Saw you at Goodwood MMS - what did you think? I got to drive ST200 up the hill - great fun little car. Do you get to try anything?
I notice this car has the "M" style wing mirrors? Are they custom? Because all the m2's I have seen haven't had these? Or are they a option for the car? Thanks in advance if anybody knows...
Hey joe. Love your videos man. I've just sold my e92 m3 (6MT)after nearly 3 years of ownership and bought an m135i. You certainly swayed my decision. It wasnt taken lightly! A baby also meant 5 doors was a must. It's actually my first non "m" car for a fair while, having come from an e46 m3(smg) and a z3m coupe. I'm really happy with the m135i (auto) so thank you for your input. Oh one other thing, are the mirror covers on your m2 the after market m4/m3 style ones? I was looking into these if so, I miss looking out of my m3 mirrors with the shoulder/arch thingy. Keep up with the videos man! Really enjoy watching them, love my bmw's :-)
I love my F21 M135i but I like the concept of the M2. Just wish I could keep the body of the M135i, I just like hatchbacks like that more. What a dilemma

Like so many others already said, really nice video so super thanks for putting it together. I'm driving an M235i XDrive myself and I'm loving it! Really amazing cars and value for money!!
Joe this is a great video, I am thinking about buying a BMW 140i but am having trouble understanding if manual or automatic is better? I see your M135 is a manual so assume it is just as good as the automatic, personally I prefer manual can you give your recommendation. Also would you expect to pay more for an automatic vs a manual after owning for 3 years? cheers Sam
I am considering to change my car... and some choices in my head... M240i indeed is a car I am very interested in. (would you take it with xdrive ?) Porsche Boxster (not the S ) is also a car I am very interested in. I know they are different... two seats and cabrio for the porsche... power, bmw, 4 seats, good look as well for the bmw... Eventually, mercedes a45 amg, and Audi Rs3 Help me to choose ^^ knowing that I also think about the price value when I sell it to someone else in a few years. Thx ( would be my daily drive car )
Great review. Thanks. Just one concern regarding the suspension... Can you comment on that? Where I live gets very bumpy sometimes, which of these is more suitable for me as a everyday basis car? I am currently driving E92 M3 and its killing me on this roads. have you driven it? to compare the suspensions
Unfortunately the M2's biggest downfall is its very busy ride, it will probably be more choppy than your E92 M3, the M240 with adaptive suspension would be lots better. If it's ride quality your after, try an ALPINA D4 or B4/B4 S, they do wonders to BMW's suspension and make the car UK friendly :-)
I enjoyed this video. It also doesn't stop me thinking a 228i/230i or even 125i is the car for me, as (in reference to a comment you make in your video) I want something that has the performance of a very fast car 10-12 years ago and don't feel that I need supercar performance from that time! I want to hussle along a slightly slower car and enjoy pushing on Without all the full M car chassis setup your video implies to me that the more ordinary chassis might be better balanced with a bit less power than the 135/140 has. Plus a 70kg lighter front end from the 4 pot instead of the 6. Indeed I have read and watched several reviews and videos from over the pond highly rating the 228i as a satisfying drivers car on track and mountain roads, but it seems to be completely ignored by UK motoring press and I'd like to hear more about it (or now the 230i with the 4 cylinder version of the new engine that you mentioned)
Have you tried a M140i with LSD yet? I have ordered a LSD on my M140i (will be delivered the 26th of June) and would be interested to hear your thoughts.
Very well done Joe. I have the M235i and would love to see a video of the M2 vs the M235i, but more in therms of real street performance. Have you ever raced your cars to see how much your M2 is better than your M135i on a drag race for example?
Hi Joe. Great videos and reviews. I neede'd a channel from a BMW enthusiast - and there you are 🙂👍 However, I need your advice: I live in Denmark where cars cost the same as moon-rockets, but I now have the opportunity to lease a used M135i. I have decided to go for the ZF 8 speed, but I really can't tell if im going for the X-drive or not. Does it ruin the cars playfullness and turn it into a dreadfull understearing Audi-nightmare? What do you think? Best regards Morten Berg, Denmark
Hey Joe! Like your videos. Regarding straight line performance, how fast does he M2 feel over the M135? I know these aren't drag cars but just curious.
Hi Joe, been waiting for this video with interest as I have an M2 on order, having initially looked at M135i. Thanks for all of the good information in the video, it would be great to see some more outside driving footage of the car, as it looks so cool. (Same spec' as my order) If you find out any good places where to get s/wheel wrapped in Alcantara, please post. Also - did you consider getting a protective (clear) wrap on paintwork ? Cheers ! R.
Joe, What settings do you use on your forward facing GoPro jammed in the headrest? What Quality/FPS are you using, and more importantly do you have 'spot focus' enabled? Cheers Dan
The DCT 335i is in between the two. I love my 335i with auto seat belt pushers. I haven't driven an M2 but know it would be great. Not much greater than a chipped 386bhp twin turbo 335i though I wouldn't imagine. If you want to make a video contact me :)
It vastly depend on your driving habits, if you really push your cars or not. It has already been debated countless time but back in the days we already agree that there was no way a 335i with a 380hp JB4 (without other pricey upgrade) could keep up with a e92-M3 in the twisties. 335i have no lsd and coils set-up for shitty rft. Only drag race is 335i territory (and not by a so big margin people are pretending). Now that M2 has the 335i torque down low and M3 lvl of handling I can't see how a 335i could compet except with the m135i :/ . M2 (remember that you can also JB it to get 400hp+ stage 1) is basicly the best BMW of the last 20 years. Anw, i would still get a m3-e92~comp for the sound, looks, dct and the price. For now, i'm happy with my Z4 35i MT jb4, N54 is a gem too ;)
Another great video Joe .... nice one! Would be interested in your views on the 135i - but with an LSD fitted. I think you may be surprised how it handles the 8-10 in your scale. I had a Quaife ATB fitted in mine - transformed the thing - especially on "the edge" you talk about. I wish I kept it (switched to an Audi .... mistake). So I would be sorely tempted with the new M140i. 340bhp - but with all that extra torque. That fitted with an LSD - then I think it would be very hard to justify the M2 ....... The B58 engine has had great reviews also (would have to be good - as the N55 was fantastic).
The traction control is very good in them. With it left on, you can push the back out a little though it cuts in pretty savagely. Never really had any issues in the wet with Pilot Super Sports for every day driving.
Great video joe! Just wondering what sort of fuel economy do you get from the m135i when driving normally on a short drive (like 6/8 miles) around b-roads and stop start driving?
I do a lot of start-stop driving in my auto m135i, few short dual carriage way trips and my average over last 7k is 19.9mpg. That's with me driving it hard constantly. Had 38mpg average after a 300mile trip once though so can be done.
i work 6 miles from my home and have a manual 135. overall I am getting 29mpg which obviously includes and motorway driving I do. I have had 38mpg on a 30 mile motorway run.
Awesome video again from you and I noticed you in some of Shmee'ss videos, seems you lot have a secret club going on :) Question, M2 or M4 ? - Seriously considering one or t'other and am unsure..... any advice ? I should say, I am in a M135i currently :)
Haha Cheers man, yeah Tim is a good friend thankfully, have a few other bits planned with him later in the year so keep an eye out on his channel. Listen the M3/M4 are BRILLIANT cars, with the waiting times and decent deals on M4's, I would say the M4 makes more financial sense... Maybe? I think the M2 looks slightly better and has more presence, it also has a slightly better engine sound (fake or not). But the M4 is faster in a straight line, has a carbon roof, carbon engine brace and proper wing mirrors, it's also more adjustable like all M cars should be. Find a dealer with both you can try I guess. Good luck and cheers for the kind words. Joe

@@ghafoorhussain6677 diamond guy thanks you went from n55 to b58 bk to n55 honestly iv never had a problem with it just high miles 93,000
Been looking forward to this video for a while. It didn't disappoint! Good lad....
Cracking video.
Your videos were instrumental in my decision to buy an m135i. I ultimately ended up buying an m140i.
Now I just have to wait until September for it to be delivered. Thanks.
I have an M240i manual coming end of September and can't wait :) got to admit all come about from your videos on the M135i
Awesome man love hearing that, glad my genuine passion for these machines rubs off... That will be one hell of a car!
+Joe Achilles the wait is killing me haha
just read this reply after I made a very similar comment, I wasn't copying honest. :)
+v811gfg haha it's all good, enjoy it when it comes cos I know I will :)
+midi458 how could you not enjoy it.
Nice comparison. I love the M235i. Can't wait to try the M2!
Great video Joe; my friend has just ordered an M240i Auto in white. He picks it up on Sat; can't wait to drive it 😉
Proper automotive Content! Great observations.
Yeah buddy, let's do something rs3/m2 based
Yeah man, it would have to be in a few weeks as too much on :-)
Bon bon
I’m blaming joe for my new purchase of a 240i . not got one yet still looking for the right one , is there any type of owners club / sites apart from the normal eBay etc where I can look 👍👍👍joe .
It´s very easy to change the settings regarding the steering wheel and suspension Joe ;) I have my sport setting set to only engine so the suspension and wheel are the same as in comfort. Sport + is then hardcore all the way, have adapt suspension too.
Great video Joe, I'm collecting my M140i on Saturday morning and I can't wait!
Must be a wrap, no individual colour yet (as far as I know)
More images of the M2's exterior please!!!!
Very honest and insightful as usual, Joe
One of the best reviews ever, you should do Top Gear!
Classic Joe Achilles👌This video really helped me decide on my next car 👏
I definitely got the discount though)
So the RS3 would have been the “smart choice”. (Leap of faith)
BMW should pay Joe, because his videos are what pushed me over the edge. You just can’t fake sincere enthusiasm like that
Great video again, well worth the wait! I ordered an M135i back in Jan after watching your videos. Love it! Now a mate has ordered an M140. You've got to get hold of one and do a little comparison video.
Cheers John and great to hear! Yeah I need to find one from somewhere...
Just found you channel this last month great vids Joe! Had an m135 for last couple of years and love it but pulled the trigger on an M2 just got the the 12-18 month lead in now. Yes it's more £ but there's something special about M cars especially this one v excited!
I have the M140i on order so when I pick up in August let's play! Great video Joe.
Hiya joe, great vid! I was wondering if you would recommend the upgrade from my 2016 m235i to an m240i or even an m2. Is the extra money worth it ?
Mate, it's August 2020 and still this video has never been more relevant.
Snap! I had an e46 m3, then e92 m3 had the m135 for last 2 years and love it! Just ordered M2 just got around 18 months to wait now!
@@jernicholshow did your M135i feel in comparison to e92 M3
Seriously late to this video I know! But when looking to buy one it’s brilliant research Joe! Where did you get your M3 look mirror caps from? Thanks!
Also would you expect to pay more for an automatic vs a manual after owning for 3 years? cheers Sam
First mod i made to my E92 335i was LSD. Definitely was worth it.
I am considering to change my car... and some choices in my head...
M240i indeed is a car I am very interested in. (would you take it with xdrive ?)
Porsche Boxster (not the S ) is also a car I am very interested in.
I know they are different... two seats and cabrio for the porsche... power, bmw, 4 seats, good look as well for the bmw...
Eventually, mercedes a45 amg, and Audi Rs3
Help me to choose ^^ knowing that I also think about the price value when I sell it to someone else in a few years.
If it's ride quality your after, try an ALPINA D4 or B4/B4 S, they do wonders to BMW's suspension and make the car UK friendly :-)
fair enough cheers . i ll get the m140 then. what do u think about about drivetrain.. X?
I enjoyed this video. It also doesn't stop me thinking a 228i/230i or even 125i is the car for me, as (in reference to a comment you make in your video) I want something that has the performance of a very fast car 10-12 years ago and don't feel that I need supercar performance from that time! I want to hussle along a slightly slower car and enjoy pushing on
Without all the full M car chassis setup your video implies to me that the more ordinary chassis might be better balanced with a bit less power than the 135/140 has.
Loving these videos Joe, I can't wait for my m140i to arrive now!
Nice video, looking forward to my M2 arriving mid November (ordered last November!).
Hi Joe. Great videos and reviews. I neede'd a channel from a BMW enthusiast - and there you are 🙂👍
However, I need your advice: I live in Denmark where cars cost the same as moon-rockets, but I now have the opportunity to lease a used M135i.
I have decided to go for the ZF 8 speed, but I really can't tell if im going for the X-drive or not. Does it ruin the cars playfullness and turn it into a dreadfull understearing Audi-nightmare?
What do you think?
Best regards
Morten Berg, Denmark
Nice video. Feel like I'm getting a good idea of how the M2 'feels'..! More so than in most others. All others ?
Great video joe, got my M140i on order. Keep the videos of the 135 coming, very informative & entertaining!
Thanks
Awesome man, bet you cant wait... Cheers
Awesome vid Joe, still loving my m135i 6 months in!
Cheers man & great to hear!
Cheers
Dan
how come you have one small rear head rest and one big rear head rest in your M2?
They are adjustable lol, one is flipped down
That's pretty cool! Thanks
Where did you get the luggage separating net from? I could do with one!
For now, i'm happy with my Z4 35i MT jb4, N54 is a gem too ;)
Becuase of you i bought m140i
and i will collect it in august
Thanks for your advice..
You totally made me want to buy a M135i
Another great video Joe ....
Don t know what you mean by in the 135i you don t know the outcome of a corner when compared with an m2???
I'm considering upgrading to a 2014 m135i 5dr auto. Any numbers with daily driving mpg? I've heard around 23-24mpg?
Mate I honestly don't think the combined mpg is much different on the M2, nothing too noticeable anyways
Would like to see another driving clips video
Great video, been looking forward to it. What does the m135i grip like in corners and in the wet? Has it ever scared or surprised you?
The traction control is very good in them. With it left on, you can push the back out a little though it cuts in pretty savagely. Never really had any issues in the wet with Pilot Super Sports for every day driving.
Awesome video Joe! I've always considered the 1 series M hatchback quite a potent car :)
NIIIIIICE! was waiting so long for that video ;)
Cheers man :-)
Awesome video once again Joe, keep up the good work!
Cheers man thank you
Awesome video again from you and I noticed you in some of Shmee'ss videos, seems you lot have a secret club going on :)
Question, M2 or M4 ?
Joe
Super review with honest thoughts and feelings, thanks man
Do you still have the m2? Haven't seen it in a while
fantastic m2 wish I could afford one great review mate
Top top video as usual buddy. Like I said before you tell everything how it is in the real world!! Cheers Joe 😎👍
Cheers buddy, always appreciate your kind words!
Nice video Joe, video's like this helpt me deside to buy the M2.
