- Members of the Tarpon Springs Police Department stepped in for a fallen colleague, taking his place to escort his daughter to prom Saturday night.
Officer Charlie Kondek was shot and killed as he responded to a noise complaint call in 2014. Kondek's colleagues say they felt it was their duty to fill in for Kondek and send his daughter Aleena Kondek off to her prom.

So instead of just having to answer her dad’s questions, the date now had to undergo a full criminal record check.

Seeing that makes me tear up reason being that that I am happy to see where his fellow officers were there for the girl, but the tears are also there from my eyes because her dad won't be there to see her get married,to see his grandkids . I remember the story of how this officer died. His police cruiser was parked in front of the Tarpon Springs, FL police building as a memorial to him. It was loaded with floral bouquets. The day of his burial at Grace Memorial Gardens in Hudson, FL which is about 16 miles north of Tarpon Springs on US19, there were at least a hundred police cars, probably more, that escorted the hearse to the cemetery. Thousands of people lined US19 from Tarpon Springs north to honor the officer and his family. I was one of them. It was very moving.
This incident must really trigger the law enforcement haters.

Been the worst part of peoples days. The hard truth about being a law enforcement officer. So happy he was able to find a way to feel that his work has done good, even if he can't find reward from doing the hard work.
