Hi Ryan. As someone who's spent a long time in academia, I appreciate and enjoy your channel. This particular video gave some valid warnings about the dangers of pursuing certain types of "hacking" and certain degrees. Also, I appreciate you being clearer on the University of Phoenix system. Though there are some reputable and worthwhile for-profit colleges out there, as a group, they have run into far more problems than not-for-profit colleges, and I personally would never attempt a degree from a for-profit school. Also, there's really no need to go the somewhat-tainted for-profit route and have one of their diplomas on your resume, when there are so many good not-for-profit schools that allow decent transfer credit and/or competency-based programs. Thank you for another nice video, and I admire what you've accomplished with your own academic pursuits.
Thank you! I completely agree. The only time I would go with a for-profit school is if it was the only school that had a self paced program in my field of study. But 95% of the time... there are better options.
3 months is insane.. but I've helped students do it. Most people I work with shoot for 6 to 9 months as part time students. Shoot me an email and I'll see if I can help.. (ryan@9monthgrad.com)
Very interesting video. I checked all universities you mentioned and unfortunately there's no computer science self paced degree for international students (so no WGU)
Okay, you’re the first person to mention Sophia in a negative light. Honestly, I was thinking to myself how does this make your degree more credible if you are finishing classes n a few days. Are students Learning? I feel like the focus is to just finish asap but not learn with Sophia. It feels like a diploma mill degree.
To be honest.. it kinda baffles me that I'm the only one that talks about the downside of Sophia. Sophia actually approached me and asked me to do a video about them, offered to pay me.. and wanted me to sign an agreement. I wonder if other RUclipsrs have signed an agreement that keeps them from talking about the other side in order to gain commission. So when you had those thoughts... You're right on. Sophia is easy... but in my opinion.... Weakens your degree. You have to be careful.
@@zansei1 If you get a bunch of 3rd party credits, then transfer into a University... those credits never convert into University credits. They still show up on your transcripts as Sophia, Study, etc... If your University accepts those credits, awesome but that doesn't mean grad programs will later. If there was no alternative to acceleration, I'd still go for it. But you can do all the acceleration from inside of Universities, save just as much money.. and it's often even faster. That's why I don't like the 3rd party method.
I definately would need a little guidance on this but im interested!! I need associates would secure my position and I would have to pick up the bachelors after~time crunch!!! Which would be the best option? There are so many and I need this super fast
I was looking at the different schools and especially of University of Massachusetts Global for a doctorate degree. UM has an online but not a flex- paced option. The only school I know that has one is Capella University, but I am not sure if I want that school because its reputation isn't the greatest. Do you know any perhaps any other self paced online schools that offer doctorates?
You're right on with your research. Cappella is the only school I've found with fully CBE Doctorate degrees. I also agree, I don't love their reputation. I have heard word that some other schools have some Doctorate programs in the works.
TESU has a number of classes that can be hacked. If you use their TECEP Exams you're basically testing out of those classes. They also allow quite a bit of transfer credits from CLEP, Sophia.org, and Study.com. Normally I try to hack without the 3rd party exams... But with something like Aviation, it's really tough to find other options for acceleration. So in that case, it's a solid option for acceleration.
In your video you mentioned if one lives in the United States they can contact you via the website. Do you not offer any programs at all for potential students outside of the US who is interested in attending a competency based universities based in the USA?
I do help International Students but I like to make sure the process will work for you first. In some Countries is more challenging than others. Feel free to shoot me an email (ryan@9monthgrad.com) and I'll see if I can help.

I'm so glad you're getting value from my channel. I spent probably 15 to 20 hours per week on school. I almost never did any school work on the weekends. I definitely could have graduated faster (3 months would be my fast goal)... but I had a full time job and didn't want to sacrifice time with my wife and kids. Not pretending it was a breeze. Great question. I love WGU for earning the full degree.. no 3rd party credits necessary. But I'm a big fan of learning the material on your own. Simply because hitting the internet to learn something is usually faster and more efficient than textbooks and homework assignments. For some of WGU's classes, sticking with the course material is very fast. For others, I prefer learning the material outside the school. Just depends on the class and the situation.
UMPI is hackable. I just don't love that they take the project based approach. I prefer the WGU format where you just test out of classes.
