Ok, now I understand why people hate nykthos ramp even without karn, 95% of decks have no counterplay to a hand with turn 3 storm the festival and in other games fizzles pretty hard
Man I did not miss this deck in the slightest. Trailblazer is a great card, and synergizes so well with Kiora, but good god giving mono green access to unlimited mana and card draw is obnoxious. I got hit with a turn 2 Cityscape leveler on the draw due to a double leyline opener. The format can't handle their highest rolls. Pioneer's play-draw problem is just getting worse and it feels like the entire format is becoming an uninteractive combo hell.
9:27 I think you can cast it and activate Nykthos because of Sunken Citadel
this deck is comedy you have a couple of 1/1 elves and next turn 30 mana and 10 creatures on the board and a planeswalker :D

I definatly agree, thanks for showcasing this deck jim.
There is also a version without storm but with archdruids charm and more top end like vorinclex 5 & 6, vaultborn tyrant and titan of Industry, not sure which one is better. Once it pops off the deck is insane as we saw. Maybe there will be some new cards in the future. I definatly think archdruids charm and trailblazer are very valuable includes for this archetype.
Tbh the deck could have been playable even before Trailblazer, Tribute to the world Tree also draws like Trailblazer and provides 3 Devotion, i am sure Henge is doable in MonoG as well.
But drawing cards Is a hell of an ability.

I first dabbled in explorer with mono green back before they added nykthos. Deck was pretty fun to play, but didn't seem overpowered. This reminds me of that deck a lot
That whiff in match 2 game 2 is why I always take the draw first before the mill off Cavalier.

I really do feel like Pioneer is going to keep going through these oscillations where Nykthos is a legitimate problem and nothing is ever done about it. The high roll of Leyline into 5 mana on T2 is stupid. If Leyline of Abundance is banned for concerns about mana acceleration why are they okay with this four free devotion one?
Because Leyline of Abundance is strictly better. Leyline of the Guildpact is just fine.

Abundance gives you a mana sink for your all acceleration draws that can and does end games. Guildpact is a useless card that only allows for high rolls and requires opponent doesn't interact. Watch the the last game. Playing guildpact in this deck gives a lot of devo if it can matter, but it is otherwise completely a brick. Even in that same spot, Abundance wouldn't have done anything either. Green without Karn or an actual combo is just as fair as Vampires, it's probably even a worse deck bc it is only an aggro deck with access to little good interaction, especially if you play Storm the Festival, since you can't have many non-permanent cards.
It's hard to say if Nykthos is a safe card for Pioneer, but the format keeps getting more and more combo-y and volatile, so this is likely the only kind of ramp deck that can exist I Amalia,Phoenix, Lotus Field world.
@@shawncarter7342 It's funny how people start to complain about MonoG after they have seen Jim doing crazy stuff in Arena a couple of times. Like it's the only way the deck performes.
I think it’s a little early to say whether they’re okay with it or not. They’ve been hesitant on bannings due to the RCQ season so they could be waiting to address problems in the format for now.
What is the point of the Leyline in this deck other then letting Nykthos tap for green on its own?

As a Standard player of a few years, in the rare occasions I've dabbled in explorer/historic I've just been hit with a continuous stream of thoughtseize/fatal pushes. I don't think I'll ever touch those formats again, because I don't see how I would justify dumping a shit ton of wildcards in to a new deck only to meet the same BS every other two matches. It seems the older the format, the more unfun it becomes.

😅This is all I have been playing recently and I think the leyline is not good. I would rather have Tribute to the World Tree, silverback elder, and Nissa Ascended Animist. I was running 2 Polukranos Reborn and cutting one for a second silverback elder. Leyline makes for a much higher variance deck. I just prefer a more consistent version.
I try and watch you all the time but I feel like you need an editor to cut out the slow plays by opponents. I already hate playing against those people, I don't want to watch people play against them too
