Glad you have started addressing concerns. This bikes hardly been riden, let alone abused, so your job should be far easier than many are accustomed to.
Heard about you from the Tramp. Looks like so far, so good. Look forward to your next vid.
Welcome Ken and thanks for your nice comment. Hope you've subscribed and glad to have your support. -Tripp
This might be my favorite video yet. Especially since you were able to solve your three top issues right off the bat. Looking forward to seeing how this project turns out though I’m betting you get this bike running like new.
Thanks! Glad you liked it. I hope she eventually ends up running like new!
Excellent video Tripp! The others too. I am not a motorcycle type at all but I love these videos. Bill
Thanks Bill, much appreciated! Hoping we’ll see each other again one of these days.
That bike looks brand new compared to some I've worked on. I'll bet you have no trouble getting it running.
I used to use PBlaster until I discovered Kroil. MMO is my go to on just about everything.
I've been hoping/waiting all summer for something like this pops up for me. So far no luck...
Hopefully you prelubed the o ring on the new filter if not it will be hell getting it off later(edit I saw your previous reply)
For a new start on a bike that would be sitting for awhile esp with Marvel Mystery Oil, and old sludgy oil I would use a cheap filter that fits and change the oil a few times.
You read my mind ckjurk! That’s exactly what I have done. 🙂
Two days late, but I’m glad I finally rolled around for another great video.
It’s about time pal!
Tripp On Two Wheels I got lost, did you see those road signs?!
Haha!
You will also want to make sure to flush the brake fluid front and rear before taking the bike out.
Most definitely Travis. Thanks for your comment and hope you subscribe. -Tripp
I enjoyed all the images on your vid. Nice editing
Thanks big Dan!
I love watching these sort of series...... next!
I'll be back on her shortly.
Here on saddle tramps recommendation, looking forward to following you 👍
Wayne S Hancock Thanks Wayne! I appreciate your support. -Tripp
Looking forward to the next video. Hope you don't have any major malfunctions on this. I'm anxious to watch you get it running.
Thanks for your support and kind words Richard. I’m looking forward to getting it running too!
Those plugs came out *very* easily with spotless threads considering they were rusted in and forgive but those stuck pistons, looks more like an accidental holding of the front brake. I won’t even comment on the mysterious disappearance of the oil lol. Enjoy the bike.
The plugs were sprayed with PB Blaster several times over a two day period. At first they wouldn’t budge and I wasn’t about to risk breaking a plug and having it lodged in. The oil had looked at the bottom of the engine and turned to gel.
Next time add some oil to the filter before installing.
Cool bike man, I'm a new sub from saddle tramps channel....I dig what your doing man, but make longer videos please!!!.... can't wait to see what happens next!...
Cool video, good luck with the bike, I hope to see a followup on the sportster
It going to come along and it’ll be ok
One tip, and I know this is going to be low on your to-do list. Replace that pop-up oil fill/dipstick. Get the one with the thermostat from Harley for like $40. That pop up WILL pop up while riding and you’ll end up with hot oil on your leg.
rebelcat420 Great idea rebelcat. I’m for sure going to look into that. Thanks for your suggestion; hope you subscribe. -Tripp
Yes it will
Well looks like the oil in the cylinder trick worked. Now what I would have done is 1) Put a heat gun or hair dryer at the bottom of the engine to heat up the old oil left in the pan. 2) I would have left the oil drain open to see if the fresh oil comes out or if any of the old oil gets pushed out. Other wise follow the hose to its origin point and then pull that end out and see if you can see any oil from that point. A bore scope would do you wonders in the case of the cylinders and the engine oil pan it would give you a good chance to see if there are any real problems going on in there.
Awesome vid Tripp marvel is the best product hands down not too many people actually know it exists keep em coming
Thanks man I really appreciate it. I love the stuff. MMO and Seafoam both are amazing products.
Man that's a clean Sportster and nice color! New sub here 😎
Thanks Jim! Really appreciate your support. -Tripp
All these barn finds are bumming me out, there are no Barns in the desert! Seriously, I just have absolutely zero luck when it comes to this. I won a guitar once, but it was stolen in under a week. And that’s how things go for me!
Keep looking Wilee! I’m sure you’ll find one sooner or later. Thanks for your comment, hope you subscribe. -Tripp
Did you remember to oil the gasket on the filter? It’s going to be a major pain to get that filter off next oil change if you didn’t.
Yup I oiled it. Got cut out in the editing. Started out with 61 minutes of video, edited down to 13. How've you been man?
Tripp On Two Wheels Doing well. About to order my parts for my winter project. Need to do the cam chain tensioners and some other things for my 03 road king.
Maybe I’ll try to film it and put together one of these video thingys. ☺️
Great motorcycle revival series. Wish I didn't have to see the goofy photos quick cuts though.
It’s kinda a shame as those models were not produced for a ton of years first year of the rubber mounted motors on the sportsters 2004 was a shortened production year as 2003 was an extended model year. With all that in mind someone may have tried to drain all the fluids to preserve the bike.
Good looking bike to have setup for so long
I too heard about you from the Tramp. Looks like you got a smoke deal.. I been wanting to get another bike and their are no deals like that in my neck of the woods, other then a basket case or a unfinished project.. Ya sure can't beat the price for a bike that is all together.. Subed and looking forward to seeing more on this critter. Good luck!
Thanks much Dan, I truly appreciate your support. Any friend of Tramp’s is a friend of mine. -Tripp
Way better than just together. It's looking the part of a new bike. Never owned an H.D. but that mileage and condition makes that bike a real rare and special deal worth thousands. I'd say all but 1 or 2 of the thousands of what MSRP was on that new.
Love the video, I use Marvels Mystery in my '67 MGB my son and I are refurbishing.
Thanks Kevin! Glad you're enjoying things. Thanks for watching and I hope you've subscribed. -Tripp
@@trippontwowheels I also ride a 07 sportster. Motorcycles are my passion, cars are my son's passion I figured it was good way spend time with him and learn as we go.
Kevin Overton Sounds like a smart plan and a good way to spend time with your son.
So, when the rubber hose has some damage ... what a design ...
(IF) the bike starts ..... I`d still be tempted to run the oil to warm temps and then dump it again. This way you remove more of the old stuff that seems to have turned to sludge.
Even if it doesnt start , I think, on Sportys the oil pump kicks in when when you turn on the ignition, so that could also help remove some sludge.
Barry Thornton Great minds think alike Barry! Hope you’ve subscribed. -Tripp
I'm curious if adding a little bit of MMO straight into the engine to see if it would loosen up any of the old oil that had settled in the bottom.
The oil should be fine pooled at the bottom, but MMO worked miracles on freeing up the cylinder heads! Thanks for your comment, I hope you subscribe! -Tripp
@@trippontwowheels I'm already subscribed. I absolutely cannot wait to see the rest of your "Barn Find" series when you get around to continuing it.
No need to change the spark plugs. Years ago that was important, but electronic ignition, and even more so fuel injection has resulted in plugs lasting 100k or more. Focus on fuel and lubrication. Get it runnin, cause heat is your friend.
Thanks Mike! Sorry, I just found your comment today. Thanks for yours, you're definitely right. Hope you subscribe! -Tripp
Drain the transmission you may find 5 quarts of oil. Just sayin.
Ha! Now why didn’t I think of that? Thanks for your comment Alan. Hope you become a subscriber. -Tripp
Seafoam deep creep works better than pb blaster
Brake fluid to unstick engine.
You’ve done all that why wouldn’t you pull the plug out of the engine and drain it then you have fresh oil throughout
Its a partyin scene!
If ya know what I mean!
I wouldn't say that oil looks too bad. Remember, the rings have almost certainly been seating on that oil and there is going to be some blow by during the process. Plus I'm sure an air cooled bike is going to have greater temperature variations as opposed to a real uniform even heating of all components. Not to mention the first time you end up in grid lock that back jug is gonna get hot. I would be real enthused about that as it is about 85% new Sportster ownership experience and 15% resurrection project. I'd be tempted to consider it a "recommissioning" of a new half broken in bike. It doesn't show any signs of abuse. Having said that the thing was an ABSOLUTE STEAL!!
Can't find episode two. Watched Ep 1 want to go from Ep 1, to EP 2.
It’s there Carl. Keep lookin! 🙂
@@trippontwowheels I can't find it. Can you send a link to the playlist
Kroil works better than blaster
Typical for a Harley with the oil tank higher than the pump, for the oil to drain out of the tank into the crankcase after time. Dynas/FLTs with the oil reserve under the transmission doesn't have that issue. 🇺🇸🏍👍 Say Hey to Saddle Tramp for me, he's a good man. Next time fill the filter halfway before putting it on. And NEVER buy a oil filter based on price. Just trying to help, not being a dickhead. SARGE.
Got my bike here now, needs some TLC from sitting. Would you be interested is some collaborative videos?
The Adventures of the Big Black Ram Truck Good to hear. Would be interested to hear what you have in mind.
@@trippontwowheels I thought I had your card, not sure where it is. Is there another way to get in touch?
@@trippontwowheels Hey, call me at work at 210-653-3326 between 9am and 6 pm
DUDE ITS A HARLEY JUST CHECK THE FLUID LEVELS AND PUT SOME FRESH 91 IN IT AND THAT BICTH WILL FIRE RIGHT UP CHRIST!!!
I did, and it didn't. Gunk in tank, carb gunked up. Need to address those issues first. Trust me, I know what I'm doing here (I think). :) Thanks for your comment ROOFER, I hope you subscribe. -Tripp
Why?
did you ever stop and think that the old lady's husband or whoever owned a bike drain the oil before he put it up in his shop that's why I wouldn't know who he couldn't have burned it and if he did burn it up he didn't have to take care of it but he probably draining oil out before he put it in the shed that's why you should be okay
I did think that was a possibility but it turned out the bike had plenty of oil, it was just all at the bottom and turned to sludge.
Wtf u dont even get it running
WD 40👍
A wise choice and a good suggestion. Is there anything WD40 can't do? Thanks Steen, hope you subscribe! -Tripp
🖖🏽👍🏼🏍😮😊👍🏼
I totally agree. How did you come to this conclusion?
Tripp On Two Wheels
Sweat hog math
Thanks Mr Kotter 😁
