I made the same mistake regarding the light requirement. At first, I placed my variegated rubber plant near an east-facing window. And it was growing fast. But probably I made an over-watering mistake and the leaves started turning brown. I thought those were sunburn and moved it to a shady spot. Finally, I figured out the correct watering schedule. The leaves are not turning brown anymore but the plant stopped growing altogether. Today, after watching your video I moved my plant to a spot where it would get a few hours of direct sunlight. Let's hope for the best.
I usually don't comment on any video but your love for plant made be do this, and also your fluent speaking skills force me to watch ur videos, and hats of for your hard work . You are really doing a nice work 😊
I too lost my ficus plant 2 years back as I had placed it indoors and it wasn’t getting sunlight at all. But at present my plant is healthy as I have kept it outdoors in my balcony. Thanks for a very useful, informative video. ...Please do more of these plant care types of videos as before , they really help.
What great timing for this video, I just ordered 2 more rubber plant this morning. You are so right about the Light requirement, even i had killed my first rubber plant by keeping it in a Low light area. Thanks for the video this is great help.
I have a couple of Rubber plants .. it grew well when they were in the open and have since stopped growing after I moved them indoors to a bright indirect lit area .. I guess I shall move it outdoors again .. And yes, I would like to know about air layering for this plant, please :)
This Is a much needed video! Ihave a rubber plant that has started drooping and leaves are falling off. Can you also make a video showing the difference between syngonium, caledium and alocasia? All their leaves look similar.
Thank you for this channel. You provide educational information. I also liked that you addressed the fact that nurseries pot this plant in clayey soil. I made the same mistakes that you did, keeping it in low light conditions without giving it adequate light.
I just love your videos. Very exhaustive explanation. However it would be nice if you could mention about the ideal size of pot to be used for each plant while initial potting/repotting.
Hey Anne...so happy u made a vlog on ficus elastica...I hv the variegated one.. recently I repoted it...coz I felt it went in to the dormant state... not seen any signs of growth...
I too had kept it in shade n didn’t show signs of much growth. So i planted it in my garden few yrs back n it’s a much thriving a tree now. N I stay in Hyderabad so u can imagine the amount of sunlight it gets 😃
Just found your video and needed all the help I can get with this plant. Appreciate all your research. Mine is very leggy but still growing good, now l'm thinking it needs more light.😊
I bought rubber plant two mnths before and it is not growing I kept it in my balcony and it gets only one hour morning sunlight . After watching your video I am going to shift the plant in my porch area where it gets good amount of sunlight.... Hope it will grow better
This happened with me too.. I bought a rubber plant , kept it indoors and killed the plant..😢 Now I have one in indirect sunlight... loveing it's place there
I changed it’s soil completely in rainy seasons and not a single leaf dropped. But I tried repotting another one in Jan mid and half the leafs have already dropped. I guess it’s better to not touch in months other than monsoons.
Good information. I want to say something about growing this plant in low light conditions. I had two rubber plants. Dark green and verigated. I don't have balcony so I kept them inside my hall relatively low light. Actually my house is quite airy and bright lighted hole day and west facing windows. My rubber plant were in very good condition in low light also.for more than 5 years and it grew quite tall nearly 6 feet. Then I transferred them in our society garden and now they are big trees.. So I feel they can be grown in low light area also.
Thanks Ann for making this video I own ficus elastica from last six months, I have placed it at bright light spot , I was worried about its slow growth but your video answered all my queries related to this plant I request you to make video of propogation by air layering and other methods Thanks again
I do have 3 types of rubber plants and growing well but nowadays they r shedding leaves is it normal or something is infected thanks for the good information
Thanks to your advice long back on Instagram I saved my rubber plant which was almost fully dead and all that was left was 1 leaf to now such a big healthy plant!
Sunlight sunlight can't tell enough how beautifully this plant does if given good sunlight. My lesson is even if you love keeping it indoors make sure you give a couple of days sunlight.
This video couldn't have come at a better time, I recently got the cuttings from my sister and they have just started to root in a propagation glass...can't wait to see it grow💛
I have two ficus tineke plants i got from the nursery. Right from the beginning they started showing brown edges on the bottom leaves. I initially thought it was fungus causing the problem and provided fungicide to the soil and leaves. Soon after it started growing new bright leaves and it looked fine. Now the new leaves are also showing brown edges. I live in Goa, my living room gets bright indirect light throughout the day hence I kept it inside a few feet from the window. I only water when the soil is dry. Still the leaves are falling off and edges of new leaves are also Browning. Please help me save my plant
Plants lobe a good pruning in the growing season. If too tall and leggy (or woody), pruning low will really thicken the foliage. Every pruning near a node becomes two shoots so we can double foliage. 🙏🏼👍🏼😊
The most helpful and informative video on rubber plant I've seen on youtube. I love the trivia that you give about each plant in your videos. Keep up the good work!
Hi Ann, thanq for your lovely videos been a fan of your videos and have rarely missed watching your videos. Really amazed at your knowledge and willing to share. Thanq for making us understand our plant childern more.
I bought one and my family planted it in the ground. It lost 4 leaves and the new leaf were eaten by squirrels. Brought it inside, though it has not given any more leaf but has lost no more leaf. So i guess its a win. But how can i get new leaves?
Rubber plant is the plant I really love...suddenly after pruning it went hibernating mode and am very sad... Now I understood the mistake I have done... I pruned this plant in monsoon and again pruned within 6 month... Just waiting it to grow again... Thanks for letting me know my mistake...
Hi i bought rubber plant 3-4 days ago it was placed in corridors for last few days , today i placed in my balcony nd in evening leaves are drooped slightly
Mam...one question... Today while cheaning and wiping the leaves of my rubber plant I accidentally broke the tip of a upcoming baby leaf....😐 Do I need to worry or is it ok
Jus want to say WoW! The way u explained! Iam sure no one will have to search for more details from any other sources regarding this plant. I would also like you to do a video on betel leaf care the same way u did this video. Very impressive! Love from Kerala 😍
Ma'am, mere rubber plant me, divali ke samay nayi leaf aa rahi thi but galati se tip se hi tut gayi. Uske baad ek bhi leaf nhi lagi hai, na hi jarasa bhi grow hua hai. Me kya karu? Uske pahele tak acha chal rha tha. Placing sahi hai, some time in sunlight and then in bright light.
..I have a green variegated rubber plant which has lost its variegation and the leaves have turned plain green..what could be the reason?? Please help.
Hi Ann I have a rubber plant which I bought almost one year ago. It seems to be very healthy and I placed it in an indirect bright light area. But not even a single new leaf grows on the plant till date. No leaf shedding... No new growth. Sometimes I think it was an artificial plant. What can I do???

I used to stay in UP and I clearly remember that the rubber plant was a must have in the 90s. We had one and I last remember it at approx 6-7 feet.

Will pruning help promote branching the rubber plant ?
