So glad this popped up as a suggestion. I've had mine for about 2 months with zero growth and I recently repotted it in a similar soil mixture and it's starting to show slight growth now. It's still summer here but once those spring and cooler months hit I'll be putting it outside. Thank you so much for all your tips 💕
an easy adaptation to this for us Americans who have snowy and cold winters for multiple months in a row: As soon as it gets above 50-60 degrees at night consistently, move your ficus trees outside for the summer. They will get a huge boost of growth. I let them get all the rainwater they want because it has other nutrients that can help growth. I’ve done this two summers in a row and my plants are looking so good! They don’t really get overwatered because the sun evaporates so much of the water. Then when it starts to get the slightest bit chilly, I do a treatment of neem oil for any pests, and bring inside for winter!
I agree with you, I too gave the whole day of very bright spot to my rubber plant and it’s growth boomed, I understood that it tolerates low light but it’s best growth is when it gets bright light exposure! And the best part is that it is very tolerant to a bit of under watering! Thanks for the video!
I just got my first rubber plant. I saw one for the first time in a herbal store and that plant was 6ft tall. They lady at the store told me it started off as a 10in plant and grew into this giant plant. I was in love with it a brought me one.
There were some great tips in here but I want to touch on some things for people who are struggling with their rubber plants. First of your plant is getting really low light, I’d recommend acclimating it to higher light slowly . Also most of us will only be able to keep our plants indoors which inevitably will me slower growth but one of the best ways to promote growth are to keep them in smaller pots. If there’s too much soul, it can cause root rot or it will make plant focus on root growth instead of leaf growth .
I have one small Rubber Plant which I bought from Coles ... definetely I will follow your advice and see my plant growing faster . At the moment I place my plant on the table at veranda ... when it grow taller I will place t indoor. Thank you for sharing on video
After 65 days your plant has grown so much. I’ve had a new 6” plant since April we are in July now and there are only a few tiny leaves at the bottom 🥺☹️ with nice sunlight!! I’ll change the soil ASAP!
I propagated a rubber plant and potted, but it’s not growing. I have her on a south facing window, I put her on my porch now she has 4 leaves. I’m so excited!
This taught me a lot about my new rubber plant, thank you. Especially since mine looks a lot like the faded color at the beginning and this video shows what it can look like with proper care and sunlight. I appreciate it, subscribed 😁
I'm a believer that plants do love the sun, and maybe not full direct for all, but plants just like us need good light in proper proportion. That is my experience from having plants.
I am very glad that I found your channel. Your videos are very informative and straight to the point. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas to us! Cheers!
Thank you so much for this! I have the exact same rubber plant and it's been dropping leaves and not pushing any new babies. I will follow your tips! Update: two months later, after repotting and giving it organic compost and coffee and more direct sunlight and it has pushed out two leaves. It is growing a new one right now. I can't thank you enough for saving my Ruby:)
Hello Sir.. Gr8 goin.. Keep it up.. 👍 Eagerly waiting for ur propogation video with update.
@harshit prakash, Thank you SOOOOOOOO much for the inspiration, I genuinely appreciate it. One 10 mints video may not answers all the questions my visitors have and that's why I always try my best to reply to each queries. It takes time but I am glad that it's not going unnoticed and so thank you once again :-) Sure, I would upload the video in coming days and one request - I would appreciate if you don't call me Sir, plz free to call me by my name - Chandan, thank you and TC :-)
What a beautiful Ruby! I have one myself, and it is my favorite plant. I worry how tall I will be able to let it grow before I need to prune the top to allow for branching.
@Mars, Glad to know it was helpful and thank you So much for your feedback, much appreciated 😍😍😍😍 I am doing 2 more new things on Rubber plants and would upload very soon 😍
I have a rubber plant since 2004 that I got when my father in law passed away. It is in a bay window and has grown slowly but it is now large, so I am trimming and propagating it now. I put some stem cutting in a pot and they now all have small leaves after a touch over a month. Easy plant. I also water my plants with leftover water from my fish tank after doing my weekly water changes.
My goodness ur rubber plant turned into a totally new healthy one. U definitely have a magical touch. 😊 Please guide me on this.. I recently got 2 rubber plants... A month ago.... 1). Old Leaves of my variegated rubber variety are developing brown patches like burn along their margins and new leaves which are growing are not as big like old ones What to do? 2) the other one is with leaves having dark green color on front and light maroonish back... The problem is new leaves are light green.... Even with time they are not getting as dark as old ones Plus the light maroonish color on back is turned to green... Even in the old leaves :( Both my plants are kept indoor near a window.... No sunlight... Just bright day light. I live in Delhi. I wish there was a option to upload pictures for better understanding. 😔 I would be highly thankful if u reply. 🙏🏼
This is very informative! Thank you :) I always worried to place my tineke under direct sunlight because I don't want it to get a sunburn. How come yours thrive and didn't get burnt? Some of my tineke leaves have this grey color on the leaves. Why is that? No pests that I can find :(
so ... it's 10 months later - but apparently tineke is quite prone to bleaching/leaf burn, unlike ruby or burgundy (which can handle some direct sun) - try pulling your tineke further back from the light source and see if the colour improves in the new growth :) i admit, I often use my spider plant as a light meter for more sensitive plants - once the spider starts bleaching, i know other things will be unhappy. luckily it bounces back so fast! maybe get yourself a "canary" plant lol cheers and best of luck!
I was honestly apprehensive about purchasing a "real" plant because I thought I'd surely kill it! lol After watching this detailed video, I think I might actually be able to raise the kid all on my own. Fingers crossed it grows up and not down ;oP
@Kris Valencia, Glad you liked it and thank you So much for the feedback, much appreciated :-) I would upload new videos (something new) on Rubber plants very soon. All are in work in progress :-)
Thank you very much for your video. I've got one of those beauties as a baby plant. Looking forward for the Spring to come to use your tip 😊. Your plant is absolutely beautifull. The little gardener apprentice so cute 🙂
I just bought this today at a bargain price of 8SGD at a local supermarket. I'm so happy I finally got one. I love the camouflage pattern of this variety. BTW, I'm a new subscriber and I want to say thank you for all the easy to follow gardening tips. I'm learning a lot from you!
Thank you for explaining the watering of plants and the example you showed about knowing when the plant is dry-the finger method-I needed to know this -Thank You-glad to be part of your channel.
@Abs, Most welcome and thank you SO SO much for your feedback and I really appreciate it. To get more branches, we would need to pruning and if you like, you can use a much bigger container to make it like a large plant (I am going to do both thins in coming few days). Thank you again :-)
nice video ,may I ask why one of my rubber plant's leaf is curling down and another one is starting to curl also, thanks for your future respond, god bless
Thank you very much :-) Leaves get smaller because of these reasons - 1. Lack of nutrients 2. Lack of enough light 3. The plant is badly rootbound. In this case, either we would need to increase the size of the pot or need to prune the roots in case we want to use the same pot. Please see which is causing the issue on your plant..hope that helps, thank you!
Hi there i got two Rubber plants at the beginning of lock down the one is doing rerry well but the other one lost about 7 leaves but it has come back now i have little leaves coming out I'm so happy i didn't throw it in the bin ill keep an eye on it if you could tell me eny think else i can do to make it grow better. Hi. Thanks for the good information. I have a Ruby rubber plant but the terminal bud is small and doesn't open. I feed it well and fair amount of light and moisture. What could be the reason ?

The new growth color is so pretty.
It’s my favourite variety of F. elastica you can find it in most stores.
an easy adaptation to this for us Americans who have snowy and cold winters for multiple months in a row:

You summed up it so well. The only thing a rubber plant need is 5-6hours of SUN 😀.l
i just got a variegated rubber plant so this was super helpful!
@Chloe Polson, Glad to know it was helpful...thank you so much for the feedback and for watching :-)

Very true , nurseries keeo telling that it is an indoor plant ,but for growth it definitely needs sunlight in good amount

Mine has grown soooo much, because I kept it in a 10 gallon pot outside in full sun 🥰 They love full sun
Exactly, light and potting mix can grow leaves like crazy
After 65 days your plant has grown so much. I’ve had a new 6” plant since April we are in July now and there are only a few tiny leaves at the bottom 🥺☹️ with nice sunlight!! I’ll change the soil ASAP!
I put my plant outside too as soon as it warmed up here and it’s grown a new leaf every week!
Cute girl!! Your little helper!

I propagated a rubber plant and potted, but it’s not growing. I have her on a south facing window, I put her on my porch now she has 4 leaves. I’m so excited!

I'm a believer that plants do love the sun, and maybe not full direct for all, but plants just like us need good light in proper proportion. That is my experience from having plants.
Some will get too hot, or will show hyperpigmentation or brown damage if they get too much light.
I like how he explains everything in detail❤
Thank you so much for your kind feedback, appreciated!
Beautiful plants… it grows healthy and beautiful..
You’ve given me hope that my ruby color may come back by as I can see yours deepen.

The new leaves look deep red compared to normal ruby rubber plants, do you think the excessive light has enhanced the colour of the leaves
If you want to enhance the growth and shine in your indoor plants take them outside in morning sunlight only in winter you will surprised
@Ayan Ahmed, Well said and 100% agree with you :-)
