I think this is one of the best "niche hobby" documentaries I've ever seen, speedrunning or not. Extraordinarily well editted, directed, and told. Amazing interviews, great job telling a cohesive story that was easy to understand as someone who has never played any KQ games, yet still made me care about each runner's achievements (both within the game and outside of it) and each of the game's milestones. Absolutely masterful work. You and the KQ6 community should feel very proud of what you've done.
I hope you'll take the time to look up KQVI and maybe some of the others too. _King's Quest VI_ is really a beautiful game and was (and still is) one of my all-time favorites. I recommend finding a playthrough that isn't zooming through everything and really enjoy it. :)
Agreed-- I'm coming to it from the opposite angle, where KQVI is one of my favorite games of all time, but I never watch or pay attention to speedrunning. This documentary is so amazing. It made me care. :)

The King's Quest series meant a lot to me growing up. The first time I played KQ3, I didn't even know the K in "knife" is silent. I sat with a Swedish-English dictionary and looked up words as I went along. I learned English to try to survive these games, and it fostered a lifelong love of studying languages. That was such a good video! I watched the original stream recording wr progression like half a year ago, so I was kinda confused when this popped up in my inbox, but it was so worth it to watch it ^^ All the interviews with the people are great and it gives it that really high-quality documentary vibe, everyone involved seemed super fun and sweet and also the editing is great!
Speedrun documentaries have been one of my favorite genres on youtube for awhile. Never thought the history of of a point and click speedrun could be interesting, but I've enjoyed your King's Quest videos.
@21:47 keep doing what you did here, this is some fantastic editing dude! At first I thought you made a mistake and forgot to cut it, but nope you just left it in for emphasis! Seriously though, if you've got enough sense to make the right call there, you've clearly got a knack for this :)
This video is really awesome and the speedrunning community for Kings Quest VI seems really cool with a nice friendly competitiveness! I didn't know there were speedruns for adventure games! This sparked my interested in checking in some runs out, great stuff :)
This video is brilliant. What a wonderful community and I’m kicking myself that I’m only just discovering your channel. I was honestly on the edge of my seat with every new discovery regarding game strats 👀 I laughed, I cried-it changed my life. Thank you for sharing such a wicked cool story! 🌻✨
Excellent little documentary this. Not only does it manage to make an obscure-ish topic really interesting, it also conveys the interest and enthusiasm of the community. Good vibes galore. 👏😎
I just finished watching all of your videos. You have done a great service not only to each and every game community you talked about, but also to speedrunners as well. Because of your rich documentary style videos these speedrun games and histories will never be forgotten. Thank you. Those were a pleasure and a joy to watch every minute of.
This is such a great video. I'm not really a fan of classic adventure games, but these documentaries are so well put together I can't help but watch. The interview footage was especially my favorite, it made the whole experience more personable.
I'm beyond late to the party, watching this nearly 3 years after the video's release, but it's gotta be my favourite speedrunning story so far. The genuine happiness for each other's successes and the support you guys give to one another is a great testimony as to why people get into speedrunning. I'm not a runner at all, but I can surely see why people get into it. Great work, both the people in your community, and you specifically, OneShortEye, for this excellent video.
While I'm not a speedrunner myself, I find them fascinating. This is such a great documentary of the history and methods used in this game. It's really heartwarming to see a tight-knit community working together to push the time as low as possible. =) I look forward to watching the rest of your videos!
One of the best "Speedrun History" videos i've seen. All the people involved are great, the insights are cathartic, the overall story is sweet, and the editing is impeccable. Well done!
This was a really well made mini-documentary I enjoyed watching this greatly and you've definitely got me interested in point-and-click speedrun games.
This is one of my all-time favorite games, and this is an INCREDIBLE documentary. Two things I love! Plus, the reveal of the Gnome Skip made me absolutely lose my mind with laughter. Comedy gold with the editing!
Wow, your videos are SO good!! I love these, just kinda binge watched all of em. The only regret is that theres not more haha. Really good stuff, im excited to see what youre making next!!
I know this is two years old, but I was feeling nostalgic and was watching videos about old games that I used to play. I thought I had forgotten everything about this game. Almost nothing looked familiar. UNTIL 'Girl in the tower' started playing, and I started singing along with the chorus without thinking about it at all. I don't ever remember listening to that song, but it's apparently been living rent free in my head for years. I must have sung along to it back in the day, because just the act of singing it felt familiar. Just crazy.
Haha, dude, so I was just having a conversation w/ my brother abt how speedrunning has gone so completely insane that you could probably look up King's Quest VI & find a speedrun on it. So I looked it up & instead I find a fu'king hour long documentary on the history of specifically King's Quest VI, & specifically the speedrunning of it, w/ in depth personal interviews w/ stand-out runners of KQVI. & w/ 175,000 views!!! ROFL! God Bless, man. I loved watching what you put together, you've got a nack for knowing when & where to put what footage, etc, & you used the various music from the game exceptionally well, IMHO.
i love how some of the speedrunners in this do this kind of just casually, that’s something that i feel like wouldnt normally be documented and i just find that so interesting. Thanks for this, I love your channel!
I’m rewatching this again, and I have to say not only is this super INTERESTING but the video itself is so well structured and edited. You’re a wonderful storyteller! 👏🏻👏🏻
I love watching these history videos of games I never heard of or played and you conveyed these runners passion for the game so well that I felt like I grew up playing the game
This is an amazing video. Interviews and everything. You need a LOT more views than you're getting, amazing production quality and it helps that KQ6 is one of my favorite games.
This just like epitomizes what is so awesome about the speedrunning community - everybody cheering on everybody else, everybody working together to workout new strats & tearing the game down to its foundational mechanical components, specifically to spread the knowledge of how the game's systems work for the express purpose of bettering the whole community's times. It does my filthy pinko heart good to see it lol
Sometimes the algorithm works. I uploaded a vgm cover of the catacombs today and this came up. Played KQ6 in 94 even tho I had just learned english. I tried every little thing, it is indeed possible to finish a casual run with excactly 50% of the points. Seeing you friendly people brake and run it feels very exciting. Great documentary. I left a sub
So glad you liked it! Cool cover of the catacombs. It's always nice to see different interpretations of Sierra themes. I found this one (not mine) years ago, but it seems to have been erased from the internet: ruclips.net/video/AtoUA29hI_M/видео.html

What an amazing little community btw when runners stop by and encourage eachother in eachother's streams. Fantastic.
What a great story of Community coming together.
This video is really awesome and the speedrunning community for Kings Quest VI seems really cool with a nice friendly competitiveness! I didn't know there were speedruns for adventure games! This sparked my interested in checking in some runs out, great stuff :)
Honestly dude this is probably the best speedrunning video i've ever watched
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is really well produced and deserves many times more views
This video is brilliant. What a wonderful community and I’m kicking myself that I’m only just discovering your channel. I was honestly on the edge of my seat with every new discovery regarding game strats 👀 I laughed, I cried-it changed my life. Thank you for sharing such a wicked cool story! 🌻✨
This is good content. Such a wholesome story, love the fact that it doesn't focus on one top runner at a time.
I'm so glad to have found this channel. I love learning about speedruns especially of older games.
The nostalgia of king quest + learning all the speedrun history i never knew about, im glad i discovered your channel!
Thanks I loved this.
Favorite bit: your brave heart speech at 27:00 and the lil one pops in for attention. Rock on
While I'm not a speedrunner myself, I find them fascinating.
Well done!
This was a really well made mini-documentary
I enjoyed watching this greatly and you've definitely got me interested in point-and-click speedrun games.
Just crazy.
This was an amazing watch. Props to all of you guys! Loved all the interviews.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The runner interviews are amazing.
What a nugget of a channel. I hope more people stumble upon these well produced videos. Great work!
Love these videos. Adding the testimonials from the actual runners adds a lot to the story and emotions!
i love how some of the speedrunners in this do this kind of just casually, that’s something that i feel like wouldnt normally be documented and i just find that so interesting.
Found this yesterday. I love these games, could not stop watching, I NEED MORE content like this. Very well done video(s)!
If any video ever deserves a thumbs up and sub, this is it. Thanks for the video. Think everyone just collectively fell in love with JakiJo lol
Your best video yet, this was great!
This video is great. Top tier production and editing and really interestingly presented
I’ve watched all of your videos on King’s Quest now. They’re so nostalgic for me. Never been into speed running but these games were a lot of fun when I was young. Thanks for making these!
You documentaries are so well directed, i enjoy rewatching them. You have such a great talant in storytelling!
Your video format / editing is great. I've enjoyed all your videos so far. I missed these games in my generation, looking to actually get this one to play through.
This is so cool. I remember playing this with my mom back when it came out on our old Compaq. We had so much fun with it. Thanks for bringing back some of those good memories and sharing some new ones.
Your channel is amazing :) I haven't played most of the games you talk about but the editing and pacing and storytelling is so engaging that I'm totally hooked :)
Always look forward to these
woah, I just came across your channel with the SpaceQuest IV video and I watched all the other videos and loved them all but this one is special, the production value on this one is just amazing, thanks for that.
This game and its run holds a very special place for me. It's my favorite King's Quest and the game I've run the most.
This was fascinating. Sluicebox getting his title changed every time he showed up was my personal highlight.
World Record History is officially a genre with a wide range of quality and I gotta say you are right there at the top in terms of rigor and presentation. A really good and comprehensive video that's also really fun to watch.
Love the video, and the small details like sluicebox having a different fun title every time he comes back to talk about something
I love your PNC speedrun videos. Thanks for all the work you put into them!
This is probably my favorite game of all time. I didn't think there was more to discover than I already had. This is amazing. Also glad to know why I got that glitch on the cliffs when replaying awhile back!
My favorite game tends to change a lot, but KQVI is definitely my favorite King's Quest. I'm so glad we were about to learn so much about it. Makes me appreciate the game even more.
@@OneShortEye Yes! Same
I can't even believe I'm binge watching Kings Quest speed runs, I could cry, such amazing/life changing games. Thank you for your wonderful channel ❤
The King's Quest games hold a very special place in my memories. I'm glad you've enjoyed the videos. :)
What an absolute amazing, wonderful look at a community coming together to advance their speedgame! I love the used of primary sources here, bringing together those runners to tell their own thoughts and stories.
I've seen a lot of speedrunning video essays on RUclips, but I've never seen one told in first person for any significant amount of time. Remarkable.
Also, good job on the speedrunning!
