Which way do you install tapered roller bearings. Outer race trapped so the axle and bearing are retained. Or outer race loose to fit into the housing. Making the axle and bearing retained by the seal and brake rotor only causing seal leaks all the time.
You cut off the splines, how long does those need to be? On a real narrow rear end there's a possibility of cutting off most of the splines and on most axles there tapered and wouldn't have the dimension to cut new splines. Would you cut out what you need in center or hub end and weld back , how is that handled. Thank you
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I HAVE BEEN LEARNING ABOUT THE FORD 9-INCH REAR AXLE.

What axles were they it looks like there were many different bolt patterns

Ford axles aren’t tapered so no need to weld. Besides, axles are hardened so you shouldn’t introduce heat to them anyway.
May-shure😊
Is one tube typically a couple inches shorter on 1 side?
On a Ford 9 inch, yes.
