    Interesting about your SW recommendation. I'm a BM guy mostly and their ceiling paint is great to use but overly expensive imo. I just painted all the ceilings in a condo & suggested the Behr ceiling paint (I used Regal Select for walls) because of the price, it was around $115 for 5gl compared to $262 for the BM. The Behr looks perfectly fine. I will look at the SW you suggested though & if the price is right I'll give it a go. 👍

      Good to hear about the Behr ceiling paint. I haven’t used it much. I feel the same about BM ceiling paint. If you’ve got a contractor account then you should be able to get Promar ceiling paint from SW for around $25-$35ish a gallon. It’s worth a try

      I can tell you that Sherwin Williams is very receptive of starting an account for painters with their own business. Just go in and tell them that you’re a painter and you have a business. You’ll get the discount.

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  7 месяцев назад +1

      That's a great idea for a video! If you go into any Sherwin Williams and let them know that you're a contractor that does painting then they'll hook you up with a contractor account. You can setup a cash or credit account. In general, the more product you use the better prices they'll give you over time.

    lol! I just asked what you thought about premium ceiling paint ( and a couple other questions about wall paint ) in another one of your vids and then found this one right after lol😄
    Is pro mar as bright as the premium? Dead flat?
    In case you miss my other questions in the other vid, which line would you recommend for a good flat wall paint from Sherwin? Something that covers good, sticks well, holds up , etc.
    Thanks Jeremy!

      I prefer Promar over the premium ceiling paint. The premium ceiling paint is a brighter whiter, but I still prefer Promar because it had a more uniform finish and I think it looks better.
      I’d recommend Emerald flat

I’m going to be painting my apartment this weekend, and the most convenient place to pick up paint for me is a place that sells Benjamin Moore. I know you mentioned in some of your previous videos that you wasn’t a fan of the changes they had recently made too some of there paint. Thanks for the video. You didn’t get into the whole world of painting a popcorn ceiling. But maybe the answer is, just don’t. For cases where a popcorn ceiling is not being painted, but the wall paint roller accidentally touches the ceiling, what is the best course of action? Is there a certain Sherwin color that blends in well for popcorn ceiling touchup?

    • @billmckinzie
      @billmckinzie 7 месяцев назад

      For popcorn, if you must, spray it.

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  7 месяцев назад

      Spraying popcorn is generally what folks do although I've cut and rolled a few popcorn ceilings. It's messy and you may want to bump up to a thicker nap roller. The roller is going to pull off some of the popcorn, but it's not that big of a deal. As far as touching up, you'll need to get a paint that closely matched what on there already. You may want to use a color deck to narrow it down, take a sample into a store and have it laser matched, or use one of the consumer laser matching devices to get you in the ballpark. Then just dab the paint in with brush over the area that needs the touchup.

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  Месяц назад

      It just depends on how important wipe-ability is to you. If you get a lot of cooking splatter on the ceiling then you could upgrade to a more durable wall paint. Duration or Emerald in matte or satin would do it.

    Hi brother. Me and my wife have started painting our house. We purchased benjamin moore regel select eggshell. • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, the new regal select formulation has been difficult to work with. When you’re not using your brush I’d recommend covering your pale with cling wrap. When you’re not using the roller pen then you should cover it with a trash bag. I demonstrate both of those in points #2 and #3 in this video. ruclips.net/video/M3umW_MXKQk/видео.htmlsi=ftDsQ-7-ipB15az6
      If you’re still having issues then you can put extender in the paint. They’ll sell it at your paint store. Stir the recommended amount in and it’ll get you a bit more open time. If you’re still having issues then consider trying Emerald matte from Sherwin Williams. That’s my go-to wall paint currently.

    I’m a DIY homeowner with 50 years of painting in my houses. I’ve used a lot of ceiling paints. On your recommendation, I just did our large kitchen ceiling with the ProMar. It is by far the best ceiling paint I’ve ever used. It flowed out beautifully with a 9” roller, had no splatter (I only got 6 little paint dots on my arms), and covered superbly with one coat over an already white ceiling. I also did the crown molding with the same paint, and it is all beautiful. If anyone has any doubt, I highly recommend it. I was able to get it from my local SW dealer, who gave it to me at contractor price. I think it was about $27 for the gallon. I still have half a gallon left, too. Thanks!

      super paint flat is a great option. We used that a lot when there were shortages a couple years ago.

  • @taxdad9729

    Dumb question but why do they make ceiling paint? Why can’t flat wall paint be used?

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  6 месяцев назад

      Wall paint often does get used. For instance we used emerald matte for bathroom ceilings cause it’s got moisture and mildew resistance built in. It’s also somewhat common practice to use cheap or cheaper flat wall paints on the ceiling. We used super paint flat for ceilings when there were shortages a few years ago. In general, purpose made ceiling paint is less expensive than wall paint and is closer to a dead flat. A lot of “flat” wall paints still have a bit of sheen to them. Promar ceiling paint, for instance, is actually dead flat.

  • @Okie-Girl

    What about the ceiling paint that starts purple and dries white so u can see what u have already painted ?

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  6 месяцев назад

      There are a couple issues with those products. Often times even when it dries it still has a purple / pink appearance. That happens a lot. Also, if that product get wet again, like a leak or something or steam hits it, it’ll pull that purple pigment back out of the paint and turn purple again. I’d recommend using a quality ceiling paint and use a headlamp or a flashlight clipped to a hat so you can see what you’re doing.

    • @TOMinPDX
      @TOMinPDX 7 месяцев назад +1

      A flat paint is the only sheen that will help hide imperfections. There's only so much it can do of course but anything glossier will make the imperfections stand out more. Flat is your best option by far.

    • @SuperVassarBrothers
      @SuperVassarBrothers  7 месяцев назад +1

      A true dead flat ceiling paint will minimize the appearance of imperfections in ceiling. A good ceiling paint will dry in such a way that it doesn’t matter where the light is coming from. That being said, every room and lighting situation is different. A general rule is to roll the ceiling the perpendicular to the light source. So if you’ve got a bedroom with two windows on the far wall then you’d wanna roll the ceiling so that the light will spill across your overlapping stripes. If you’re not sure then just try a cross hatch pattern. First coat go one way then on the second coat go the other way. Hopefully this wasn’t too confusing 🤷‍♂️
