We use the ol' upside down insert technique all the time on the job site while we're still working out of the pan. I've never tried taping the inserts together. That's not a bad idea. When we put our pans to bed for the evening we usually wrap them in a trash bag like I showed in the video. As long as you're preventing air from hitting the paint then its all good!
You’re welcome, you may want to grab our list of paints and sign up for our newsletter. We’re about a week away from launching our painting course created for DIYers that are painting their homes. Here’s the link if you’re interested. www.paintyourhomenow.com/interior-paint-buyingguide
Someone else also suggested that and my crew and I tried it a couple months ago. I get the appeal, but we still prefer cling wrap because we often reuse the same piece to wrap a brush. Press and seal sticks to itself aggressively, which makes it hard to reuse. Both are solid options though!
getting close to starting my first renovation so im absorbing all the knowledge i can before i start, any tips like this are clutch for reducing it from an ordeal to an experience (:
I use now zip-lock bagsfor the brushes or if possible keep your rollers in the (half)full paint can. Other option is large glass jars to put roller in and fill up with paint.
@SuperVassarBrothers As I wait in line at Sherwin Williams. 😀 I watched several of your videos this morning, and they were all very informative and useful. I also found them straight forward and easy to follow. Thank you for keeping it simple yet beyond basics for us painting lovers not pros. Haha! Have a great year! Xoxo, Frances
Not sure what type of paneling you’re referring to. If it’s wood paneling then you probably need to prime it with a wood primer then you can paint like you would a wall. Brush and roller and you should be good to go.
I have used cling wrap for brushes. Have also used sandwich bags for temp storage of brushes. I also often just use the plasic bags from my grocery store also. You do not wash your rollers ? You throw them away after one use ?
We don't wash out our roller covers. For my crew it's not time efficient to take the time to wash them out properly compared to how much a roller cover costs. We buy them by the case and it works well for us. I know some guys like to wash them out, that's just not our preference.
Good stuff, great tips!👍🏻 I’m trying to find one of your videos that’ll help me find the right 2.5 in brush for SW Emerald trim enamel! The stuff looks beautiful if the planets are in line but I’m struggling with it and have quite the brush collection already lol. Best I’ve found is a super soft short Wooster pro so far but it’s 2 inch, doesn’t hold much paint which slows me down too much ( which isn’t a good thing with that paint as I’m sure you know ), it does leave a nice smooth finish on narrow casing though if you can get through it quick enough. The soft Purdy syntax is pretty good and recommended by SW but it’s a little stiffer , really loads the paint up, and pushes it around a little too much for me ( maybe I need to work with it a little more?🤷🏻♂️) Wooster silver tip is no bueno for this paint…I saw one where you mentioned the Corona Cortez but I can’t find it locally and need to get through this project, I’m ready to just roll the closet jamb, door, and door jamb already 😅 I’ll get there eventually …. I hope lol🤦🏻♂️
The corona Cortes 2 1/2 is what I use everyday for emerald urethane. I experimented with a corona Vegas (is got soft champagne nylon bristles) and it produces an excellent finish, but it moves slower than the cortez.
@@SuperVassarBrothers I’m going to order one today, maybe the Vegas is better for me? There’s soooo many ( too many ) freakin brushes, It’s overwhelming! Is 100% nylon the way to go? Or nylon/polyester? Chinex? Lol Is there any other brush you would recommend? Thanks very much for the reply!
It’s a cost vs time thing for us. Rollers take a lot of time and water to wash out. We also don’t always have access to areas to wash things out. We get covers by the case and keep things moving.
Useful tips, although we wash our rollers, brushes every single day at the end of work day, you come back following day everything is clean ready to start.
Thanks for the feedback. Different crews use different methods. We like the deep paint trays for 9" rollers and a large green bucket from Wooster for the 14" rollers. Link below for 14". Good luck www.homedepot.com/p/Wooster-1-Gal-14-in-Plastic-Bucket-Tray-0BR4140140/205745979?source=shoppingads&locale=en-US&&mtc=SHOPPING-RM-RMP-GGL-D24-Multi-NA-WOOSTER-NA-SMART-NA-NA-MK111111111-NA-NBR-3135-CON-NA-FY22_3135&cm_mmc=SHOPPING-RM-RMP-GGL-D24-Multi-NA-WOOSTER-NA-SMART-NA-NA-MK111111111-NA-NBR-3135-CON-NA-FY22_3135-71700000085106716-58700007231698002-92700064885734598&gclid=CjwKCAjwqauVBhBGEiwAXOepkUpMxh_09lLkqK7ZInfU8pghoyudfnnAoDjZHt2cXkc-WZaocsy2jRoCclsQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds.
I like your videos however, I seem to detect a little leaning towards Sherwin-Williams, so I’m wondering if this is not a totally non-biased review. iTunes in to try to get reviews of Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore products however, if you’re a contractor and you get bigger discounts on Sherwin-Williams paints and you work with them on a regular basis well you know.
I talk about the products that I have a lot of experience with and I use mostly Benjamin Moore and Sherwin. I'm not sponsored by any companies currently, so my reviews are all based on my use of these products in my day to day work. Every review is biased because they're based on the reviewers preferences and experience. That's the nature of any review you see online.
Maybe for some folks depending on what type of work they do. For us, it’s more cost effective to buy in bulk, and throw away the rollers when we’re done with them. It would cost us more to take the time to wash them out than it would to replace them. I understand that might not be the case for some folks.

I use zipper bags to keep brushes moist. Put the brush in and zip it up to the handle. Sandwich bags work well.
I have done that as well and it’s a solid option. I salute you for it 🫡
Great tips! All time saving painting tips are welcomed because time is money.
Indeed it is. And we all want more time and money!
Another similar idea is to get a tray insert and use it upside down as a lid for your paint tray. Then just tape the seam.

Thank you good sir! 🫡
Thank you so much, im repainting my whole house and I work full time and this was extremely helpful 😍. Thank you so much for all your help.
Glad we could help Brenda. Good luck on painting your entire home. I'm sure it will look great when your done.
@glendacooper. Please what paint did you get for the interior work ? I need advise
Thanks for all the tips. I will be painting my home for the first time in 20 years.

I use the press and seal wrap. Covers trays and buckets tight. Also, use on my spackle and mud buckets, then place the lid back on.
I just ordered some after reading your comment. I’ll try that out next week. Thanks for the heads up 🫡
Thank you!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!!
Try press and seal. It's so much easier than saran wrap imo

Excellent tips!
I hope you find them useful!

That works. We occasionally will wrap roller covers in cling seal if we’re going to reuse later on the same job. If not then we just chuck them.
Great tips! Thanks!❤

I m so glad. I ran into you here sir. Thanks. Also any tips to paint paneling easy and affordable please 🙏

That's a good way to do it too!
can you do this with all paints?
Pretty much all of the paints you'd be using for interior work and exterior work.
Good tips, thanks. I thought pros paint out of buckets with screens instead of paint trays, which do you recommend?

As well as advertising papers, just wondering and not trying to be a jerk or anything I just wanna unbiased opinion on paint s
I try and be honest in my opinion of the products that I use. If I don't like something I say so and vice versa.

Wasted money trashing rollers…. With a simple scraper and a spinner and they clean up fast and good as new
