    I had a little extra money left this year and decided to up my game from an old a6000. So I bought a a6600, Sigma 16mm, Sigma 30mm and a Sigma 56mm. Now, instead of enjoying retirement years, I find myself studying 5-6 hours a day learning how to use all this new stuff. Stumbled on and subed your channel. Hoping to learn a lot more here.

    This Sigma 30mm f1.4 was my first non-kit lens when I got my Sony Alpha a6400 last fall (the camera came with the Sony 18-135mm "kit" zoom lens), and I've never been less than blown away. Sigma is doing amazing things with these lenses on a technical level, and I literally have no idea how they manage it at this price. Granted, I’m a beginner and still getting a feel for the basics, but I can attest that my odds of capturing an image I’m actually proud to share goes up dramatically when I use this lens. It really deserves its positive reputation.

    Your production quality is outstanding! Very easy to watch!
    I’m currently torn between this and the Sony 35mm for an a6400 for video use... however I do use a gimbal so I’m leaning towards this as I’ve used the canon variation for years and love it.
    You mentioned using both lenses... what would you opt for now knowing how they both perform?

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  4 года назад +3

      Steve Welsh honestly I think the deciding factor would be AF. If you need snappy AF I would still go with the Sony version. But if you are ok with a slightly slower AF and want to cut your budget in almost half then go with the sigma.

    • @stevewelsh__
      @stevewelsh__ 4 года назад +3

      Anson & Co. I ended up going with the sigma! The focus is still crazy fast on the a6400, the fact that It doesn’t have stabilisation doesn’t bother me nearly as much as I thought it would and I saved a few hundred $$. Thanks again!

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  4 года назад +1

      So I looked into it. I thought it was full frame at first but it’s not. So it is possible that it has SLIGHTLY better optics, but more likely just how it’s designed. It has things like focus markers and even though it’s focus by wire it has hard stops in the focus ring. So it’s easier to use a follow focus system.

I have a GH5 and I fell in love with this Sigma 30mm f1.4 lens. but since the GH5 uses contrast focus, which seems to be not compatible with this lens, I would like to ask you for advice: is it really not recommended to use this lens for videos if you intend to use AF only? The focus is really much slower and more complicated than a normal 25mm 1.7 Panasonic? Thanks for your suggestions

    Professional broadcaster here ... Quick tip: Most people are watching by themselves. So you might not wanna say "You guys" "You All" and most importantly, "Hello RUclips." If you are talking to the company RUclips, then cool. But if you wanna CONNNECT with your audience, you probably don't wanna call them "RUclips." Just say "Hi" while you're looking at the camera. You're very natural, your voice is very SMOOTH, content is good. picture is EXCELLENT. Lots of RUclipsrs make this mistake because most have never had any training or performance coaching. So, here's your freebie! Keep up the good work - quality is excellent!

      @@rong7282 Just take whatever focal length you're looking to get, such as 35mm, and divide it by the crop factor of your camera. In your case that would be 35/1.5 and you'll get what you need to aim for with your choice of lens. And of course the reverse is used to find what a lens becomes the equivalent of on a crop sensor. So if you bought a 35mm lens it would be 35*1.5 so it would be the equivalent of using a 52.5mm on a full frame camera.

    Sigma and that beautiful glass. Hope they honor your cine lens request! Lol. Beautiful cinematography and review! Is the focus by wire challenging to you on the Sigma 18-35mm too? Best wishes to you and yours for staying safe!

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  4 года назад +2

      Thanks! I hope you are staying safe as well. I have not tested the 18-35 BUT that may soon be changing as I am trying to swap out some lenses for it. I suspect their may be a slight difference since it does have physical markers, but it may be the one thing I am not a fan of. I will say the focus by wire is less noticeable on the 30 and 56 as it was with the 16. I may not even include it on the 56 review. But that being said I also hope they take my request into consideration lol

      Anson & Co. thank you for the well wishes! I have heard what you said about the 30 and 56 being better in terms of focusing. I’ve been dodging focus by wire for some time because of the horrendous reviews but there’s nothing like the cinematic quality of Sigma’s. I’m giving in this year lol! I appreciate the inspiration and response. Lowlight GH5 tutorial soon maybe? Just asked Caleb too. Lol

      Both are equally sharp it really just depends on your focal length needs for a specific job.

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  3 года назад

      If you buy it for Sony E mount yes, but it will only cover the super 35 portion of the sensor. So it’s not ideal

    So hold on, I'm looking for a photography lens that can also do solid cinematic videos once in a while, but I can't seem to find a review from a photographer, they're all about the video capabilities. Am I missing something? I thought it was primarily a photography lens?

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  3 года назад +1

      Nick Gunnare it is intended to be a photography lens yes. Check out ruclips.net/video/jaMXIor04WY/видео.html

    would this lens be good for shooting videos in a small room with not a lot of space?? ... by the way love this video and you have your self a new Subscriber !!

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  3 года назад

      I would say it’s on the border of good and not good for space. I’m on a pretty tight office and it’s hard for me to a composition without being on the other side of the room. So it depends are you shooting on APS-C or MFT?
      Also thanks man! I’m glad you’re into the content. I shoot with this lens a ton and so hopefully there will be more to come

      @@Ansonandco I use the Sony A6400 for my videos, right now I only have the kit lens. Im looking for something that can shoot good in a small space decent shallow depth of field. Most videos I seen, they recommend this camera but the majored never really talked about the space around you subject.

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  3 года назад +1

      I would actually recommend to pick up the sigma 16mm f1.4. It would be way better for smaller spaces. Especially with the 6400

      Anson & Co. oh ok cool because I want to get this lens for my BMPCC6K I think it would end up being a 50mm on that camera sense I think it’s close to a super 35 sensor

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  4 года назад +1

      James Handley so I don’t know if you are going to be able to mount it on the 6k because of the EF mount. The sensor size is fine but you won’t be able to find an EF version or even adapt it because of the flange distance. I would look at maybe the art series 35mm

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  4 года назад

      So the lens itself is not a zoom lens. But with the 6400 you can use clear image zoom. If you do a quick search for it it’s pretty easy to accomplish!

    I had a whole sigma trio for m43 and 16mm for apsc. Only 56mm 1.4 left. 30mm and 16mm had a terrible purple fringing. Autofocus in 16mm is worse than in 56mm and 30mm, especially in low light. Shooting with 30mm and 16mm in backlight at 1.4 -2.0 is a terrible idea. There are better alternatives for m43. Maybe not for apsc. 16mm with Sony behaved similarly to 16mm with m1mii and g9. For m43 Oly 17mm 1.2 is unbeatable, 17 1.8 is also better, same 25 1.2. All equally sharp at 2.0 but faster and without other problems with CA/LaCA
    Focus by wire vs manual focus clutch in Oly - no comparison, especially for videomakers. FBW is a nightmare. 30mm missing seal on mounting ring. Only 16 and 56 are sealed. Few people notice this. For owners of sealed Olympus and Panasonic cameras, this may be important. If you have m43, save money and buy a used oly 1.2. If you don't care about manual focus then Oly 1.8 or pana 1.7.

    • @Ansonandco
      @Ansonandco  4 года назад +1

      Kamil Rakowski honestly I thought all three were not sealed. Good recommendations - THANKS!

    • @kamilrakowski23
      @kamilrakowski23 4 года назад

      @@Ansonandco They're not 100% sealed, but the mounting bracket is (16 and 56), so you don't have to worry about the sensor. I shot with a 56mm sigma in the snow and some rain without problems. None of these lenses had any dust behind the glass. 56mm is still heavily used.I think they are well made.
