Fritz, I know your video is 2 years old and I’m new To your channel so I’d not know much about you or how you run this thing. Hopefully you still get notices when people add comments like this even 2 years later. What I want to say above all else is your comments about building a community and trying to find someone to help a viewer in the viewers area if they scared to do the project your taking on. How awesome. As human being I think we are suppose to do things just like you suggested and help the next person out. If everyone single living person took that on and effectively paid it forward finding the next person who needs support and helping them through it. I watched the Bimmertec video on installing their Android head unit which I found a little discouraging - but watching you do it on an actual 235i made it seem a lot less challenging. I'm glad I found your channel.
Did you ever figure it out? I ordered from BT but figured audio shouldn’t be affected since you’re not really changing the head unit. You’re only changing the screen so it should still sound exactly the same
@@luise3618 no, the screen is connected to the original sound system via aux, so the headunit is doing a Digital to Analog conversion and the DAC isnt as good as BMW original so there will be degradation but I doubt people can notice.
I just test drove a 228i and an M235. Definitely looking to purchase the M235 in the next coming months. I was wondering about the radio upgrade! So excited to get mine!! Thanks for the video!

Is there any differences if you have the Harman Kardon sound system apart moving the optical cable? Also how is the true sound quality affected while having the HK sound system along with this as I am worried about sound degradation? Lots of models say its not affected but I have seen many examples where the sound quality is considerably poorer than than the standard HU with HK.

Hey man, my huge thanks for this video. I bought a similar unit for a BMW F20 116 from 2013. The screen is similar but not exactly the same one.
I followed this video and the instalation was very smooth. Also thanks for pointing out that some veichles have a fiber cable that needs to be re-routed towards the new connector, mine had those indeed!

If you are looking to start working on your car, I would suggest that you do it. This is a great entry level job, just take your time and be patient with yourself
Thanks for the video mate extremely helpful and it actually gave me the confidence to attempt the installation myself, which i did today. The only real issues I had was with disconnecting the Emergency light switch connector as I couldn't pop out the button itself to make it more accessible and trying to get the stereo system back in to its original position was very awkward due to all the additional wiring that is now there. After finally working that out the new screen switches on fine but I don't seem to have any sound and the cars main menu doesn't display when I hold down the menu button on the Idrive...Any ideas why that might be? Could it be because I forget to connect the fibre optic cable?
That's awesome! Only some cars have the fiber optic so you ,ight have to double check to see if yours does. The other thing to check is that you plugged in the AUX cord. Lmk if that helps
@@FritzRamos Thank you for your advice. My vehicle had the fibre optic cable so I relocated it to the new 40 pin female plug which has fixed the issue. Please Fritz I have another question...do I still need to connect the aux lead even if I can play music via bluetooth threw my phone? It works via the BMW original system but I have no sound when I play a movie via the android sytem.
@@vijaybadhan6410 If you have sound from the radio, your BT, and from the android unit (like the navigation - switch to aux mode even if you don't have the cable plugged in) then you don't need it. I didn't have to use mine, hopefully yours is the same

Ey! I just bought similar radio for my BMW serie 4 , I did just the same as you but I have no sound. Theres a Jack cable on my kit , does It goes to the aux? Thanks from Spain!!
Yes, but if your radio and bluetooth play without it inserted then you don't need it.
If you don’t have the fibre optic cable, most likely you’ll need to plug in the aux cable right?
I just don’t like the fact that I need to plug in the aux to armrest, I’d have to run the wire under the central console which sounds messy

Great video and tutorial! Your channel is really helpful...I subscribed. I'm looking at a 17 230 msport but it has the 6.6 in screen. This seems like a huge upgrade and definitely something I'm interested in doing if I get the car. Curious if the nav works on the non-android side? Also, how does the android side work as far as a connection? Is theres a network connection or something thats required?

As far as network, I just use the hot spot from my phone. I think you can use a Sim as well.

I have a 2015 BMW m235i. The install should be the same for anyone with the screen that pops out of the dash, maybe some variation between aftermarket brands is all.
I would imagine it voids the warranty but since it's all plug and play, if anything happens just pop your old one in 🤫(and it looks close to oem that they might not notice unless they're wiring in that specifically) or wait until the warranty is up, that's what I did.
Fritz, where’d you shop around and research head units? I bought one of the earliest 2014 m235i’s in the US, with the 6.5” and basically no bells and whistles at all (not even bluetooth music). I’m considering the upgrade for: waze gps, bluetooth, wireless apple CarPlay etc. Seems impossible to know which of these screens are decent quality, good looking, and reliable. Anyway, enjoyed watching your videos - I know my way around RUclips enough to appreciate the time and effort put into getting all these angles and edits.

Hi Fritz, thanks for the video. I did the installation but the door indicator seems to be swapped around -- that is if the driver door is open then the unit indicates that the front passenger door is open. How can I swap these around?

One important question; all the settings for the car are available in these aftermarket systems? For example changing setting for locking the vehicle withstand or blinking lights, and more?

You're welcome. This is a perfect diy for beginners. The SD card is if you download lots of apps to the screen. If you store them on the SD card the screen's performance won't be hindered as much

Hi Fritz, I have a F20 with a base unit + Alpine HiFi retrofit installed. And I am going to buy the Android Screen and installed by myself. My question is since there is one wiring harness installed (as shown 4:31) between the base unit and the Alpine amplifier, how can I connect the wiring harness order between the unit, Alpine amplifier and Android screen? Hi great video I just installed mine. I have a couple of questions:
1) I downloaded the Spotify app and signed in but when I hit play I am not getting any audio out of the speakers?
2) When using the mobile phone via bluetooth my friend could hear me but I could not hear them when the spoke back?

Go to 2:47 of this video to access the headunits main menu. There you should select your cars bluetooth for phone calls as well as other features that you would like to adjust. As for the Audio from spotify, it channels in through the AUX source. ruclips.net/video/8NrPVNs2-Cc/видео.html

I believe that there is a dongle that will allow you to do this. I might actually look further into this later this month.
As far as my experience using it, I love it. Now the android side does take about 2-5 minutes to get fully launched, but I have no regrets. Here is another videos that might be helpful to you. Thanks for asking.

Hello. I have BMW f46. I have seen in your good tutorial that you do not connect the auxiliary cable. Does that mean that the audio from the bluetooth microphone still works with the original? Because in my box I got a microphone. And the original USB input of the center works or is it bypassed? Thank you.

Great videos. Thank you! Been doing so much research and not getting very far. So much differing info for these head units that are supposedly all the same. I have a 2017 F22 (230i Xdrive) with ID5. The Koasan has a picture that shows ID5 & ID6 as not compatible. I'm not sure a touch screen will work.... Bimmertech only has non-touch screen head unit that is $700. Is there another model comparable to theirs and one that I can trust all features will work? What about touch-screen for ID5?
It should work, mine is a 2015. Honestly the touch screen function is nice but I never use it.

I didn't have to use the aux cord but it could depend on your model. Also, The manufacturer told me that this unit for the m235i will work wiout the aux

Sweet video! My head unit needs to be replaced since it is stuck on the BMW logo only now, I was looking at this as a viable option instead of going stock again. I have 2014 M235i with the base infotainment (No navigation and Bluetooth only works for calls, no music). Do you think this will be a direct plug and play for me without any coding required to get bluetooth music?
That was my set up except that I had BT music. It was direct plug an play. No cutting or splicing. Let me know if you need help

Thank you for the great video. My Z4 E89 Android screen does not respond at all, but the i-Drive works. However, with the i-Drive I cannot go to the apps or settings menus. Is there a solution for it? I would appreciate if you can tell me what to do to fix the issue.

Hey Fritz, i know it's been awhile, but I installed a similar HU on my F48. I only get audio on the BMW menus, but not on the android side. Did you have to connect an extra aux cable to the car somewhere?
You have to switch the audio source on your phone, try switch that to the Bluetooth of the head unit, if not then switch back and forth between the car Bluetooth and the head unit Bluetooth eventually it will work
This should work with an 2013 F31 too or not? And does the Bluetooth Audio works automatically with the new screen or do I have to get it coded because I've got the strange version with Phone calls but without Bluetooth Audio. Nice Video👍🏻

What radio button are you referring to?

I believe so. You'll have to check the fitment guide. Glare isn't an issue
Great video. Thank you for making this video I have the very same display but Carplar unit and was wondering how to install it on my BMW . The instructions that came with the unit are a bit rubbish. I can see now that if the vehicle has certain features already not all the wiring loom connectors have to be used.

Does the Android unit provide 12 volts to the reversing camera or is it a ""Reverse Sense" line?
I have a question. The local BMW repair shop just taxed me 1600 for an amplifier. They thought that was the issue but it didn’t fix my sound. Took it back today and now they say I need to replace the head unit. They said they checked the TCU module and now they are recommending changing the entire head unit. I want to know if you think getting the unit that you documented would be better. 2016 328xi. Let me know. I have been riding with my Bluetooth speaker.

Fritz Ramos yes I did. It works threw my phones hotspot. Thought the module itself gave out internet for GPS though?

Yes it will and no extra equipment is necessary. You just have to select in in the settings.
Got this and is all fitted, can you play music through Bluetooth with it as it shows as a headset and the music doesn’t play but RUclips Audio works?
You can you just have to select the hadunit's bluetooth under settings.
