It’s that time of the year again and we have a brand new Ubuntu and a new Fedora, both released at the exact same time. Fedora 40 and ubuntu 24.04 LTS have dropped with refreshed desktops, updated kernels and the newest of everything.
Ubuntu and Fedora, both are two of the biggest and hottest Linux distos in the world. But the question that everyone has is, which one of these is the best? Which one of these two should I pick?
To help you answer that, I’ll take you on a deep dive with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and Fedora 40. We’ll compare their performances, the user interfaces, stability, software availability, the gaming scene and a lot more, side by side. We’ll also objectively see- which of these two is the best.
I’ve been playing with the newest of Ubuntu and Fedora since they both hit beta and I’m really excited to share this video with you, because there’s a lot of interesting stuff that these two distros bring.

I just realised I've been using Ubuntu for 20 years. Gosh I feel old.
Funnily I still see haters online speaking mostly falsehoods of Canonical thinking its cool or hip to do so. Look at unity for example, everyone whined about it, now they want it back.
Truth is, canonical and ubuntu are awesome and its about time i say so. I've watched them make linux for human beings and their innovation is why I still use them today and plan to for the foreseeable future.
Random tip for new user to quit distro hoping. Just pick from a major distribution that you like best and forget the rest. Debian.Fedora.Ubunti.Arch.Opensuse. oh and timeshift can be a life saviour.

I've been trying to get back to Linux the last two weeks, ubuntu was my first choice since that was what I fell in love with Linux back then. Sadly none of the ubuntu flavors seemed to work on my machine, either it was slow, buggy desktop, no wifi drivers working, or complete fail at system load, hadn't heard of the push back against ubuntu since I've been using windows in the last four or so years, even though my issues don't have to do with snaps or that stuff, today I finally could get a fully working desktop with fedora, and I'm glad I'm back, hopefully I will try ubuntu later in the future but sadly I will have to do it without them for now.

Well it works most of the time for me, but I notice afew quirks. BTOP++ messes up after you suspend, the window is on another screen and also sometimes it shows high temps which could be corrupted results, so you have to restart it. Also I play tank online mmo with usually Google chrome but get 60-100fps but with firefox I get 165fps. When I just use 1 monitor then google chrome gives me 60-100fps. The other problem is CUPS-BROWSER process puts 2 cores at 100% and overheats; this is 1 bug that was in Ubuntu 23.10; so I have to restart the computer it happens rarely but does happen after I suspend. But other than that, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS works fairly well and notice it uses less ram than Windows 11.

The Spiral Linux version of Ubuntu's parent Debian beats Ubuntu on ease of installation and stability. It pulls exclusively from Debian repos, but the developer has customized it to make it extremely user friendly. It pulls from several Debian repos that Debian doesn't have as default installation options.
Its the only thing that could install the proper wifi driver on a Macbook and another old PC I had, after trying several major distros first, including Ubuntu and Fedora. Debian used to offer an unofficial ISO that had more drivers but Spiral Linux appears to be the only option for that now without using a distro pulling from non-Debian repos. Really old laptops can run it too if you install and switch to LXDE desktop at the login menu, which Spiral Linux XFCE did with no complications.
If the Debian people had made this kind of desktop distro a long time ago, we probably wouldn't have seen nearly as many distros in the .deb world as we do today.

Unfortunately, The Ubuntu forum has become very unfriendly, you may not give any salutations/ greetings and the help given is not done in a friendly manner at all. Fedora on the other hand offers help along with educating one as to why you must do as asked, this not only aids you in learning but also teaches why certain operations are done in a specific manner. Fedora over Ubuntu for me. Not to mention.... Ubuntu / Fedora or more correctly, Canonical, is now also asking you to allow telemetric services which are opt out instead of opt in meaning, this is already checked by default.... Who do we know that also did this and is now mandating it....

@@StartupMediaProduction glad to hear that, now I'm on Fedora but I cannot make my drawing monitor (Ugee model U1600) works and it's frustrating because I only need Krita in this laptop. I got another wacom tablet and this is recognized properly but it's too old and small, anyway I'm still searching for an answer

I am using Fedora because I think is the best distro actually. In my experience Manjaro is better than Ubuntu too.

Fractional scaling and multi monitor? Neither of these work. Since KDE can handle multi monitors properly, it has to be a KDE DE for now. Of these 2 major distros, Fedora 40 has plasma 6, Kubuntu 24.04 LTS doesn't. So Fedora KDE wins - easily. When is gnome EVER going to take this seriously? Gnome looks beautiful. But is unusable if you use multi monitors with different scaling.

You kde fanboys are brainless lol kde literally just hacks things together then glues them together until they eventually patch stuff.
Gnome takes longer but when stuff comes out at least it's PROPERLY implemented

i must be living in a different timeline. i’ve been driving 3 monitors (two 1080p, one 1440p) through a dock with 22.04 (GNOME) since its release. works flawlessly.
