I resisted and resisted giving up my Canon M gear. But Canon gave up on the platform. Once Fujifilm showed what the fifth generation processor can do in the S-X20, I switched to Fujifilm X. It's impressive that a camera slightly larger than a Canon M50 can do so much more with both stills and video, while using the same Sigma lenses that rescued the Canon M system. I think the X-S series is for us Fuji newbies.
You should seen they used a couple of X-S20 to shoot several music videos in Japan, if you were none the wiser, you think they were filmed on full frame cinema cameras. Which just goes to show, a camera is a tool, it wont make magic, but if a tool is versatile enough, it will make the job, just a little easier.
Just got mine yesterday. The auto focus tracking is light years better than the X-S10, I'm actually quite impressed (professional work I use Sony). The video IBIS is quite good as well. I found the X-S10 a great all around dad cam and am definitely happy with the X-S20 upgrades.
Yeah as a every day camera for some amazing instagram photos/videos its hard to beat. Especially at that price point and WEIGHT! I just hate carrying full frame cameras around when I travel or visit somewhere just because of how heavy it is. Fuji film simulations are also whats intruging me to have a preset jpeg straight on your phone after u take a picture is such a good convinience (if u do pro work ure more than well aware of how much hassle it is sometimes to have to color grade and work on every single photo lol), Im seriously considering it as a camera for my daily use. My only wish would be that its offered in silver... gives it such a retro look and feel. I know they offer it in the XT5 but that camera is way too overpriced for me for an APS-C censor. I am also considering just waiting for Sony A7Cii cuz its going to be around 1800 dollars, and thats a light full framer.
@@LeeZavitz APS-C peaked in 2012, so its really no surprises there, Nikon bodies with Sony sensors from 2012 still set benchmark for dynamic range through the ISO range in APS-C world. I always love Fujifilm. Been using my very first fuji camera for 4 years now in taking a memorable life moments. This is probably one of the reasons why I will be purchasing another Fuji camera. Thank you ❤️
Quick tip for video: For more natural (less stuttery) motion in your videos, you should always be shooting at 1/(2*Frame rate) shutter speed, and use an ND filter to help with exposure. This specific ratio of shutter speed to frame rate is called the 180 degree shutter rule, and creates subtle motion blur to blend the frames together.
Thanks Lee for this review! Fuji should thank you for making this video, as it now confirms my decision to purchase the XS-20 as a B cam to my fully rigged out XT3. Both with the same sensor but now the XS-20 has the new processor and better IBIS, and so much more. Sometimes you just need a much smaller camera for B roll and this camera looks to be that camera and should pair well with the fully rigged XT3 with Sigma 18-35. You sir provide excellent and informative videos…and they are equally entertaining as well.
I will take that sensor over the 40mp any day. Sold my X-T4 to get the X-T5 and actually preferred the X-T4 image quality. So the XS20 has the best of both worlds with the new processor. An amazing package.
I decided to sell my XT-5 for the XS20 mainly because of the XT-5's size, but after using the XS20, I found that I actually prefer the image quality from the XS20.
I just got the Fuji 150-600 so I’m hoping the tracking is better for wildlife than my X-S10. I was thinking about the X-H2S but this seems like a good upgrade since video is also important to me.
Really would love the features of this camera in a XT30 style body for a more nostalgic feel... let's hope there will be a mark III sometime in the near future!

Nice photos and great model! It was also a great, straightforward review. I've been looking at it, theT5 and the H2. We're heading to Austria and Slovenia in December. I normally take my E3 on trips, but I've been doing more video. My H1 does pretty good with video, but it's way too big when gripped (a necessity) to use as a travel camera. Of the choices, I think the S20 fits my needs best.
Yeah this one is pretty dope. Only concern i have is Fuji’s photo oriented ibis that fights u when shooting video. X-s10 had a really funky ibis I wonder how good or bad this one is
Awesome review, I wish they come out with an XT5/5s that has the new processor/Af and features but with the older XT3/4 sensor, would be a perfect balance and best of both worlds

Any xs20 flog2 users out there that can confirm this?!?
Great video Lee! I love my S-X10 and I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger on this one but I still want to wait to see what the rumored Sony APS-C camera will offer. It's great the use the new battery with this small body. I just wish Fuji would work on their IBIS so I can use my 10-24mm lens for filming myself while on the move. I have yet to see a Fuji that does this well. Cheers!
Yeah it’s better than the xs10 but it’s still janky if you are walking and moving a lot. It does a great job if you arent doing huge movements. I feel like the only really good ibis is in Panasonic cameras. Although the dynamic active stabilization on the sony zve1 is also very good. But big crop which defeats the purpose of a ultra wide lens
That Sony looks tempting and will have better AF. But keep in mind the Sony viewfinder is a removable accessory. In my opinion, that makes the X-S20 a better stills camera. I assume Fuji stabilization is also inferior to Sony, but I won't know until my X-S20 arrives.
@@BrendanMacWade I love both systems and own 6 Fuji cameras I'm just going to wait just a bit to see what the Sony will actually offer. Truth be told the S-X10 with that "crappy" 15-45 kit lens fits my use case for videos for my camping channel the S-X20 would be more than enough camera. Trust me it's taking all I have not to pull the trigger on the X-S20 🙂 Hope you enjoy the X-S20.
From what I seen from other reviews it’s not Sony AF or OM/Pan IBIS, but OK at both (depending on use) and other than that it looks like a great camera with many other attributes! Nice review!
Anther shoot with an old car... love it! Love the red interior. It's in great condition. Questions: When do you choose to use classic neg? I often like it in harsh sunlight. But, I don't usually get blue sky. How did you expose to make that happen with classic neg? Do expose for highlights then bring up the shadow in post? I'm thinking that the X-S20 might be a nice update to my X-T3 because I'll get that new CPU, IBIS, bigger battery, new sims, smaller form factor. I'm a total beginner to video, so I thought that vlog mode might be a good way to learn. The one thing that does worry me is the single card slot because I'm accustomed to having it for backup. Always love your content Lee. Thanks for this demo!!!
Yeah I’m trying to get my old car into some shoots. I’m going to start Body work on it this summer so I wanted to get one last shoot in with it while it looks beat up haha. As for exposing I just expose the same way I always would. I usually try to watch my skin highlights and that’s it. I don’t even look at the light meter much anymore
Great review! I am not sure which Fujifilm I should get xS20 or XT5. I used to be a Canon full-frame shooter for my portrait (family, children, seniors, maternity) and travel photography.
Enjoy your videos and picked up an X-S20 with this exact lens and was wondering - How are you metering your shots ? How do you determine the "correct" exposure ? Are you eyeballing it, or using the on board meter or histogram ?
Eye ball it based off highlights. Every so often I’ll look at the light meter but I find it’s easier to expose for skin/highlights. Now if you aren’t shooting people just watch the skies and highlights there and make sure they aren’t clipped. Shadows are easy to bring back highlights are not as forgiving
What's your opinion or preference when it comes to comparing this with the new Sony a6700? If you only have one camera and generally shot 80% stills & 20% videos. Thank you.
Damn Lee! your reviews are always on point, I have always loved the fuji colors for photo and video, but this new Sony a6700 has got me thinking! I'm getting my first camera, I'm planning to get any of those 2 , But the Fuji colors are holding me back hahah, My main focus will be video, but I also will be doing photography mainly Fashion and Editorial. Please, HELP! Which one should I pick ?
Love your work But after lots of thought _and an element of sadness I sold all my Fuji gear. It was wonderful and pretty but with the current pricing and Fujis walking back and forth between body designs FF is or rather has become the way.
@@LeeZavitz Yes, I did it. I also set it to economy mode. But today is the second day I've been testing this camera. So I was in the menu for 50 minutes. The camera became hot during this time but no message appeared (Although yesterday, when I first received it, the overheating message appeared much faster.). I don't think I will have much time to shoot video after these 50 minutes.
Some timestamps would be nice, is there a part of the video that talks about specifically the video capabilities of the X-S20? - Have the fixed the corner wobbles with wider lenses like the 13mm Viltrox?
Wide lenses you will still get ibis wobble. The ibis is better than the xs10 but you will still see the wobble. Most camera manufactures have this issue with ultra wide lenses. Sony is probably the best but they also have the least amount of aggressive stabilization. Canon is the worst for that :S
@@LeeZavitz I bought the X-S20 yesterday :) - I was doing a walking wobble test and couldn't see any on the 13mm Viltrox or the 12mm Samyang! - I thought ok, must be the camera. But I just tried on the X-S10 with the latest firmware, and also no wobbles! - it's a lot less smooth and the IBIS is somewhat jerky on the X-S10, but no wobbles! - my older footage on the X-S10 is unusable due to wobbles, seems Fuji really worked on this?? - Are you experiencing the same on the latest firmware? With this said, can't say I'm super impressed with the video AF on the X-S20, I'm looking at the Sony A6700 as well. The Fuji has 6.2k open gate, 2 more stops of IBIS, better webcam with film sims, no overheating in video, better screen, joystick, fuji colours, some unique great lenses - so that's a lot to love! - but if you're not in focus, what's the point? I like that Sony have bulletproof autofocus no matter what, making it so easy for filming myself, also focus breathing correction (those F2 Fuji primes have terrible focus breathing!), 120fps 4k is cool, water resistance, higher ISO range (better in low light?), the same lenses are normally 20-30% cheaper for Sony. I'm very torn if to keep the X-S20 or to get the Sony :)
@@LeeZavitz Thanks for the feedback. I worked for 6 years as a photographer with Nikon, I moved to another area. After almost 2 years I'm going to buy a new equipment just for hobby. I've been researching the XH2S, XT5 and more recently the SX20. I believe it will be a good choice, I'm looking at taking it with the 18-50mm + 33mm 1.4 or just the 16-55mm f2.8. Would you have an opinion?
1:40 can you really reprogram it to anything because you can’t with the 10 and it’s one of the reasons I don’t vibe with the 10.. very limited controls.
Classig negative always has more orange tint on a skin tone while in you video it looks more natural and pleasant. Did you do any tweaks fo the photos which are labeled *classic negative*?
The xs20 is a better camera. But it doesn’t have the higher res 40mp sensor. I wouldn’t say that’s a bad thing. The 26mp sensor in the xs20 looks awesome that’s really the main difference. The xs20 has a nicer grip & bigger battery.
@@LeeZavitz Thank you very much for your very quick and descriptive response. I was thinking of using it for portrait shots. It will be my first camera. :))
Also better in low light given that when using flog2 a second gain iso kicks in at iso 3200 cleaning up the noise for a cleaner video The noise grain pattern is super easy to clean in post so iso 5000 is pretty clean Specially if paired with fast prime lenses like. Siriu sniper t1.2 or viltrox f1.4 The 10bit 4.2.2 is amazing to grade The external recorder unlocks 12bit 4.2.2 Braw all intra codec that can work for large productions The open gate can be used with super wide anamorphic lenses if you have a monitor to desqueeze the footage The only gripe with it is the lack of second SD card storage and the heat issue when stressing the camera in over 30p recording modes It's best to pair it with a cooler fan that wouldn't necessarily have to be provided from Fuji like 001 fan Cheaper options exist that are just as efficient and at a fraction of the cost The camera when rigged is an absolute beast
Buy used xs10, then use your spare money to buy lens line up, then if u think that set up work for tipe photography u in to, that's good. if not, at that time you will know what u need is new body or different lens. Because if just for basic photography like travel/landscap/documentary image quality on both body is identical
I would argue that you get the X-S20 if you need that new processor. You get faster AF, animal and human eye detection, and perhaps a killer feature - 1080p streaming straight out of the camera via USB-C. As a heavy video meetings user, that decided it for me. You can also livestream via USB-C.
I have same problem. Xs-20 cost almost same as sony a7c (+200eur). X-t30ii and x-s10 cost -350eur. Since I do only stills i'm not sure if x-s20 make any sense..
It depends on if you aren’t getting what you want from the video side of things on the xt4. For photos they will look exactly the same with the xs20 having slightly Better autofocus. The xt4 is technically a more professional camera. Dual card slots and proper weather sealing. So it’s your call on what matters most to you.
Only skin retouching. If I list that it was edited with my preset then yes it was edited. Outside of that it’ll just be the jpg and film simulation from the camera
Does anyone have this issue when shooting video in a custom mode? Every time I move the dial to a custom mode, the shutter speed goes to the wrong setting (not the SS i have set). For example, I have C1 set to 4K60p with the shutter speed set to 120. Every time i move to another setting and back to C1, the SS moves to 60 and doesn't let me change it unless I go into the Q menu. The custom mode is set to video and manual. Please help, thanks!
I notice when recording in 6.2K, I can go the full 45 minutes. When recording normal 4K or 1080p I actually get a few minutes less recording time. All done in 10 bit 4.2.2. This can’t be right. Anyone else experiencing those odd recording limits?
I have the same camera, with the fan. Disappointed to discover that at 10 bit 4.2.2 in All-Intra, you can only record video up to 45 minutes continuously, in whatever mode (with a very fast SD card). And nothing to do with overheating. Not good enough.
It’s the same as the rest of the new Fuji cameras with this xprocessor5. It’s the best autofocus they have but it’s still hit or miss depending on the lens you are using. The newest ones with linear motors are the best. The kit lens is also surprisingly good for video af.
I think an XPro is coming before the end of the year. Sadly, I don't know the fate of the XE-5. I think Fuji is replacing the XT-30 with the X-S line. The demand for an XE-5 is strong. And Fuji knows they would sell out. But there's this pressure to consolidate the APS-C lines to X-S, X-T, and X-H.
I resisted and resisted giving up my Canon M gear. But Canon gave up on the platform. Once Fujifilm showed what the fifth generation processor can do in the S-X20, I switched to Fujifilm X. Awesome camera.. but let’s be honest.. that 33 1.4 on an X-E2 could make some amazing images. Sick lens.
100% great lens
For xh2s im gonna give you A TIP
When using flog2
The xh2s has a dual gain iso feature
Meaning yes the native iso is 1200
But whats intresting here that you can bump to 3200 iso where the second gain kicks in and cleans up the captured up to 50% of the noise
This is only noticible after applying the grade in post
Youd still get some noise but its alot cleaner than iso 2500
Do this and also use a higher rsolution than 1080p
Do keep in mind that this system isnt a dual base iso camera unlike a canon c400 or a redkomodo
Your low light footage will look really nice as the noise generated is organic and has a filmic look to it unlike other brands that have a chroma noise pattern that ruins skin tones
As for the xh2 and xt5 the dual gain iso kicks in at flog2 iso 2500
The xt5 and xh2 are a higher res sensor and thus prone to more noise in lowlight
The xt4 when using flog1 kicks in at iso2000
Im surprised that fuji doesnt advertise this feature unlike sony or blackmagic.....etc
Now my question for fujifilm
Does the xs20 have a dual gain iso similar to xh2s given that it has the new procesor???
Any xs20 flog2 users out there that can confirm this?!?

I love this video soooo much I thumbed up 4 times. Hahahaha
✌🏼
Damn Lee! your reviews are always on point, I have always loved the fuji colors for photo and video, but this new Sony a6700 has got me thinking! I'm getting my first camera, I'm planning to get any of those 2 , But the Fuji colors are holding me back hahah, My main focus will be video, but I also will be doing photography mainly Fashion and Editorial. Please, HELP! Which one should I pick ?
Keep in mind how the a6700 overheats, I’m sure it can be worked around but still a problem if you only have one cam and are doing work for a client.
Exactly!😭😭
Fujifilm's colours is holding me back from deciding if I should get the XS-20 or the A6700. What did you go for eventually?
How do youtubers make their video colors look so cinematic. I’m new and really trying to learn
Thanks for the review. Just wondering for your professional works, do you prefer X-S20 or Canon R8?
For professional work I wouldn’t choose either of them. I would look at the xt5/xh2 or R6/R6mkii
@@LeeZavitz Thanks

Next video apple iphone 14 pro proraw 48 mp vs S23 Ultra 200mp comparison pls
I already kind of made that comparison video. you can’t do 200mp computational raw with s23u it’s just 50mp
ruclips.net/video/OknmQiI9hkE/видео.html
Can you please do a talking head video inside a studio with this camera?
Which is better the fuji x-s20 or fuji x-t3?
fuji 33mm or viltrox 75 1.2 for first prime?
They are very different. And if it’s your only lens I’d recommend the 33mm because it’s like a standard 50mm focal length.
Love your work
But after lots of thought _and an element of sadness I sold all my Fuji gear.
It was wonderful and pretty but with the current pricing and Fujis walking back and forth between body designs
FF is or rather has become the way.
between the X-S20, X-H2s and the X-T5, which one would you pick? do you think that in general they deliver similar quality?
The xh2s is the best camera out of all of them. But it’s not going to be as high res as the xt5
I have a problem with overheating when I'm just in the camera menu... I've been using it for the first day. Is this normal?
That is not normal. It shouldn’t overheat not doing anything. Did you set Auto Power Off Temp to “High” ?
Uff amazing!!!!
I was thinking of getting this camera but I only shoot stills? would that be a mistake? This has fast AF and a good sensor faster than the XT4
I am planning to buy a camera but I am not sure what to choose. What is more worth it? Sony A6400 or this camera? Thank you
If compared to a6400 the xs20 is much better but compared to a6700 it’s a harder choice
Does it have 4K 24 oversampled? or just line skipping?
Considering a balance between photography and video, would you go with the X-S20 or X-T5 for cost/benefit?
XS20. But I didn’t really like the XT5 for video. The new 40mp sensor has really poor rolling shutter performance
What lens did you use in the video?
Like it better vs XT 5?
Sorry man i start dislike X-S10 i dont now if i uppgrade X-S20. Is it worth it? Chassis quality?
Are the film simulations you show edited or straight out of camera?
Straight out of camera with retouching. I always label the photo and film simulation I used or if I edited it with my presets
Please, does the Fujifilm x-s20 use high speed flash sync (hss) for outdoor flash use with wide open lenses? Like a flash at 1/4000s!!
I can’t see why it wouldn’t if you have a compatible hss trigger
1:40 can you really reprogram it to anything because you can’t with the 10 and it’s one of the reasons I don’t vibe with the 10.. very limited controls.
Classig negative always has more orange tint on a skin tone while in you video it looks more natural and pleasant. Did you do any tweaks fo the photos which are labeled *classic negative*?
No that’s the jpg from the camera with just skin retouching. But nostalgic negative really pushes the orange/reds
Thanks for video!
Question as a beginner.
- why shoot using those color pre-sets as well as black/white instead adding it in post?
Some people like how it looks straight out of camera so you don’t have to do anything in post.
Hello, should I go for this or the X-T50 just for photography?
The xs20 is a better camera. But it doesn’t have the higher res 40mp sensor. I wouldn’t say that’s a bad thing. The 26mp sensor in the xs20 looks awesome that’s really the main difference. The xs20 has a nicer grip & bigger battery.
@@LeeZavitz Thank you very much for your very quick and descriptive response. I was thinking of using it for portrait shots. It will be my first camera. :))
I guess I’m not going to upgrade to the xh2s.
Also better in low light given that when using flog2 a second gain iso kicks in at iso 3200 cleaning up the noise for a cleaner video
The noise grain pattern is super easy to clean in post so iso 5000 is pretty clean
Specially if paired with fast prime lenses like. Siriu sniper t1.2 or viltrox f1.4
The 10bit 4.2.2 is amazing to grade
The external recorder unlocks 12bit 4.2.2 Braw all intra codec that can work for large productions
The open gate can be used with super wide anamorphic lenses if you have a monitor to desqueeze the footage
The only gripe with it is the lack of second SD card storage and the heat issue when stressing the camera in over 30p recording modes
It's best to pair it with a cooler fan that wouldn't necessarily have to be provided from Fuji like 001 fan
Cheaper options exist that are just as efficient and at a fraction of the cost
The camera when rigged is an absolute beast
For photography only is X-S10 enough or should I get X-S20? Considering 70-300, 16-80 & 9mm lenses maybe an Viltrox 56
Since I do only stills i'm not sure if x-s20 make any sense..
it is worth it if i sell my xt4 and switch to xs20 ? iam fashion hybrid photographer and videographer
It depends on if you aren’t getting what you want from the video side of things on the xt4. For photos they will look exactly the same with the xs20 having slightly Better autofocus. The xt4 is technically a more professional camera. Dual card slots and proper weather sealing. So it’s your call on what matters most to you.
@@LeeZavitz but they both same image quality ? im worried if xt4 image quality better than xs20, so i wouldnt change
This little thing givew ingredible bang for the buck
How many autofocus Points are there please reply
425
@@LeeZavitz faster than sony a6400?
Are you shooting the beginning of the video with the xs20?
Yes some shots are mixed in with my a7siii for the beginning
Which hdmi transmitter do you use?
The first Gen Accsoon cineye because it has a built in battery
@@LeeZavitz thanks 😊
Photos are without any post production?
Only skin retouching. If I list that it was edited with my preset then yes it was edited. Outside of that it’ll just be the jpg and film simulation from the camera
Can you use the film simulations with video?
Yes. But you won’t have much dynamic range if you need to tweak it compared to shooting flog
Is it a good camera for photography and videography?
Yes
@@LeeZavitz They say the camera is getting hot, can't I use it without a cooling fan?
Does anyone have this issue when shooting video in a custom mode? Every time I move the dial to a custom mode, the shutter speed goes to the wrong setting (not the SS i have set).
For example, I have C1 set to 4K60p with the shutter speed set to 120. Every time i move to another setting and back to C1, the SS moves to 60 and doesn't let me change it unless I go into the Q menu. The custom mode is set to video and manual.
Please help, thanks!
I can't finalize between XS20,XT5 & EOS R8
Could anyone please send me thier XS20 raw files to play with
It would be so helpful
Man..... I want 🥲
It’s a great little camera
Ha! It's only for the cool kids!! Did you want to know what to buy? LOL!
What was this video filmed on?
Sony a7siii
You are a beast
I notice when recording in 6.2K, I can go the full 45 minutes. When recording normal 4K or 1080p I actually get a few minutes less recording time. All done in 10 bit 4.2.2. This can’t be right. Anyone else experiencing those odd recording limits?
That seems odd. It’s more processing and heat you would think for 6k
@@LeeZavitz I know. It's what the remaining time says on the screen. Maybe I should reset the camera, see if things change.
I have the same camera, with the fan. Disappointed to discover that at 10 bit 4.2.2 in All-Intra, you can only record video up to 45 minutes continuously, in whatever mode (with a very fast SD card). And nothing to do with overheating. Not good enough.
Fuji got the price and specs right !
That’s what this video should be titled lol
A pity that you did not reviewed the video autofocus. Maybe in another video?
It’s the same as the rest of the new Fuji cameras with this xprocessor5. It’s the best autofocus they have but it’s still hit or miss depending on the lens you are using. The newest ones with linear motors are the best. The kit lens is also surprisingly good for video af.
@@LeeZavitz Thanks! You mean the kitlens 18-55mm?
@@LeeZavitz Thanks a lot.
How do you zoom in on this camera 😂
does this camera have flash ?
Yes. The very very last image of the video shows a shot with flash
@@LeeZavitz yes, that's why i am asking , couldnt see flash on a camera body .
Waiting for Gerald Undone
Come on Fuji... Don't forget the XE and XPro line... the ones that started it all in the first place. We don't need more DSLR style cameras...
You don’t want a vlog option on your mode dial? Lol
Where the shots SOOC?
They are labeled when they are. Any time I edit and use my preset I also label
