I had my last booster shot September 23 and would gladly have taken an updated shot but hadn’t gotten it by the time I stayed at the hospital with my husband for 5 days due to his chf & Afib. I had kept myself, my elderly daddy & my 70+ disabled husband healthy for 3 years. Unfortunately I tested positive for the latest variant of Covid 5 days after we got home🤦♀️. I was able to get the paxlovid and still lost taste, had severe headaches and body aches , but it was the exhaustion that kept me in bed for 4 days and still in March I am trying to gain my strength back. As soon as I am able I plan on getting an updated booster. Thank you Dr Osterholm for what you and your team do🙂 11:48
You just got COVID, and then you're going to get a booster right after? That makes no immunological sense. Check the latest data on Paxlovid, it's a big waste of $
I am sorry you got it, but glad you had paxlovid. All the people I know who have had it, told me do whatever I can, not to get it. May you recover and feel much better soon.
@@marklemont3735 the sad part was that my 88 yr old daddy only ended up having a few weeks more to live and I was too sick to be able to spend as much time w him as I would have🥹. But I will cherish our life together and find comfort in watching the many hours of videos I took of him .🙂
@@cindypatrick785Oh I am so very sorry for your loss! Unfortunately we can’t protect the “elderly, elderly” from what this will do to them. I lost someone, too, and was angry at first, (2020) but as time went on I realized they would not have come out of it, if they could have lived, to be just like they were before Covid. Too much damage had been done to tissues and organs. I know my elderly, elderly family would not have wanted to live life, in a worse state, after getting so sick. You are doing the right thing, cherishing the memories you do have. Once again, I am so sorry for your loss.
I think it would be an excellent idea to specify relative risk versus absolute risk EVERY time a percentage is cited. The perception (for anybody) of that information cannot be properly calibrated without that detail being included.

I haven’t worn masks in public for two years unless it’s required. I understand that others need to be more careful. I would definitely take Paxlovid if I got infected again. I didn’t back 18 months ago but I wouldn’t take a chance again.
Telling your listeners with long-covid and similar conditions "we hear you and we haven't forgotten about you", but in the same episode saying you don't wear masks anymore because you personally don't have any risk factors, has the same energy as the kids who went to spring break in 2020. Current policies and attitudes towards masking just continue to further marginalize already marginalized communities, but if you are a reasonably healthy and well-to-do guy with access to top-tier healthcare, the "you-do-you" doctrine probably looks pretty good right now.
I was under the impression that the cloth, and paper masks cannot stop an aerosol virus like Covid. If this is true, then wearing one would seem counterproductive.
It would have been a fairer comparison if you compared the age cohorts in automotive accidents as well. Here the number of deaths in those 65+ from bicycle accidents are roughtly 30 times as low as dying from covid - and this is with covid not being reported as cause of death due to changes in policies. I see many 65+ wear bicycle helmets. Despite this deaths occur. I see practically none wear ffp2. Because the risks are deliberately minimized. You can say we have to go by the numbers but treat those numbers so they square up, and include the confounders. And even then judging this virus effects by deaths alone is ignoring the fact it makes holes in all of our tissues from brain to guts with every infection resulting in longcovid and other post infectious health conditions. Viral load is every increasing. Viral load equals viral replication and viral replication takes place in our body's tissues that perform vital functions..
Did You know at what tissue temperature did SARS COV2 better replicate ?May be if it replicate at very low tissue temperature must avoid antipiretics ?
