I appreciate how thorough you were and that you showed different techniques. I’ve watched many videos and read a few articles and you didn’t leave out steps… thank you!
Loved your video and I’m excited for more! I’ve been obsessing over bundle dyeing over the last couple of weeks and can’t wait till my flower garden is up and going so I can do more flower bundles because those are magical!
Thank you Lana!! I’m so excited for you to give it a try! It’s so fun. I’ll be posting an eco printing tutorial soon, using flowers so that may also be a fun technique to try with the flowers you’re growing. :)
@@thebarefootdyer Cannot wait for you instructions! I’ve done a bit of ecoprinting on silk last year and got beautiful prints of morning glories and some random stuff that was growing in the garden... I always thought tho that those are kinda interchangeable terms, maybe the use of blankets make the difference? In any case I am sure I will learn all about it from your next video!
Thank you for this amazing tutorial. My daughter and I are bundle dyeing today and I was wondering what you do to fix the fabric after it has been steaming, to keep the colors vibrant. Thanks!
Hello! I'm an art educator and would love to try this with my students. If I were to soak the fabrics in mordant ahead of time, would it be possible to complete this entire process minus drying in an hour and a half?
Hello, did you put anything in the bath to help with the dying process or did you treat the material before? I know that in dying yarn you have to when using anything natural dying or other.
super cool! how long do the colors do last? will they be fading a week after or a few months after, or almost not if the fabric is silk or cotton (prepared with the soy milk)?
I tried red onion skins on linen other day and were reddish, but dip in Fe water (old med for anemia) turned it dusty purple!. Alum turned it more yellow. What will you make with your pieces of fabric, scarves or clothes or quilt...?
There’s a little arrow symbol under the video right beside the title. If you click it, it will open the description box. I would be happy to paste a link here as well. What were you looking for?
The Barefoot Dyer -Thank you- the mordanting instructions. I have been plant dyeing wool yarn and silk scarves and mordant 10% of dry weight. Each one I simmer for at least an hour. Was wondering what the mordanting times were- approximately . I will look for the arrow…. Wish me luck!
You shouldn't turn off the sound during videos, because it feels weird, I've gotten a panic attack when the sound went off. I'm serious. 😊 Otherwise cool video!

Nice results!
Absolutely gorgeous, and love this process and your unique content❤🌺
Can you please show the steaming set up?
You're so modest and beautiful!
Do you also have a video on mordents? What do you use for pre treating fabric? Thanks a bunch - beautiful pieces ❤
Thank you so much for this! I can't wait til this summer.

Same here. How to pre-treat the fabric?
I found this most informative and interesting!

Fabric pre-treat and pH neutral detergent.
Any specifics or brands would be helpful.
This was amazing! ✨I have tried bundle dyeing with the red onion skins and they actually do give a very beautiful green 💖💖
Thank you! Red onion skins are so fun to play with!
Wow this is so cool!! that scabiosa makes such a beautiful blue 😍😍
With commercial dyes , sometimes vinegar is used to set the color is there anything that can be used on natural dyes to set colors?
I did this yesterday and I’m rooked! What did you treat your fabric with? I soaked mine in soy milk but saw where you can us alum.

Very educational
Is turmeric colorfast over time? I just added some to my rudbeckia dyepot to make the cloth a warmer brown
Do we have any technology so this print do not fade
What did you use for the second bundle dye with the flowers?
Beautiful! I learned a lot. Thank you

Help. When do you use plastic to prevent bleeding
How you pre treat the cloth ? Can you please share the process?
Love this! When washing, do you hand wash or in a machine?
hi, this is great :) thanks for sharing... wanted to ask you if you can share the photos of the fabric after wash
Where do get pieces of fiber?
Do you ever do a vinegar rinse before washing?
I don’t - the only time I use vinegar is in my scouring process. It doesn’t do anything to facilitate a bond between the dye and fiber.
What is the proper way to steam ??
What do you use as a mordant? Your video is great! Thanks
Hermoso!!! Podrías hacer un video en español?
I would have loved to see how the fabrics look dry and ironed after washing. I guess I'll try it out myself anyway lol🤷♀️😆
I have some photos of it dried and washed over on my Instagram. Also, the thumbnail photo is after it was washed and dried.
@@thebarefootdyer Oh that's good to know! Thank you very much, I'll try it :)

It's awesome and beautiful😍✨
Thanks so much!
Thank you so much. And what does it mean it’s steaming…. Where and how?
I use a vegetable steamer ♥️
Fantastic video, what flowers do you use in the second fabric? I’m obsessed with the colours 😍
Hi Sarah,
Thank you! I used black knight scabiosa, hibiscus, cosmos and coreopsis.
I tried red onion skins on linen other day and were reddish, but dip in Fe water (old med for anemia) turned it dusty purple!. Alum turned it more yellow. What will you make with your pieces of fabric, scarves or clothes or quilt...?
Anthocyanin dyes are so fun - so many results! I keep my pieces to show as examples in classes and workshops.
What did you mordant with? How was the light fastness of the pink/red piece of fabric?
Tannin & aluminum acetate. The fastness has been moderately good. Food waste and flower dyes are typically have moderate to low fastness.
Would vinegar work too?
Wonderful 🌸 and so well demonstrated. 🌸🌸💕👏🏽👏🏽💕🌸 Followed you here from IG. 🌸🌸💕
Hi! Thank you so much!
Have you ever died paper and if so, does that also fade in time?
I have! It depends on how much UV light it exposed to.
What do you use these for?
I save most of my samples to show as examples at workshops but I’ve bundle dyed shirts, blankets, curtains, socks and more!
Nice ❤️❤️

Beatiful work and colours¡

it would be more beautiful if you put different shapes, size and colour of leaves with onion skin, tumeric and dandelion as the background
That is how I eco print but bundle dyeing is a different technique. 🧡
