I’m 37 now, but when I was much much younger, I was taken on a cab ride from a local CSX maintenance depot to the yard about 3 miles down. In an old GE U36B locomotive, with an absolutely perfect K5LA. I manned the the horn over every crossing and it was an experience I’ll never forget. Your video in the cab brought those memories back. I’ve subbed!
That was nothing but awesome, great stuff! Getting in 667's Cab is definitively something I'd not expect. Who knows, something like that might happen again, or be once in a life time, never know.
I've been on a few locomotives, I've been I side of a NS AC44C6M, but if you want to get some shots of the cab interior just ask the crew nicely and don't take any of the crew
Yeah, I guess I could’ve. In the moment I really wasn’t sure what to do though, and I didn’t want to ask too much of the crew since they had already been very generous.
Very nice catches! It’s awesome that you got invited up into the cab of that Warbonnet. I’ve been on a few locomotives, the most recent being an NS SD70ACC, but unfortunately the crews can get fired for that nowadays. Even if I were to try to ask the crew, they'd most likely report you for trespassing in my area which sucks.
Thanks! Yeah, the crew of the Warbonnet Local said they used to invite people in the cab all the time. That's pretty cool, how were you able to get inside? Dang, sound's like the RR is pretty strict about trespassers where you are.
@@Southern_Plains_Railfan Yeah, I live on BNSF trackage and it’s very hit or miss on how friendly the crews are. As for that cab tour, they (and a bunch of other trains on the line) were being held up for some reason and after a little while, the conductor literally just opened the nose door and waved me and a younger friend of mine over and asked if we wanted to come inside. I would share the footage but I’m afraid of getting the crew fired, although I can’t say that I’ve had a confirmed sighting of either of them since (this was a little over a year ago). The unit had a very loud but nice K5LA at the time but unfortunately that horn was switched out afterwards. I’m not going to mention the road number publicly but it was not the one featured in this video (you saw NS 1823). The ACC’s do have a cab camera mounted on the back wall behind the engineer btw.
That’s quite the day of spotting you had! Also such a cool experience to be invited up into a cab, ESPECIALLY of a Warbonnet. Id be lying if I said I wasn’t jealous. Thanks for sharing!
Just gotta say I love your videos! You have a great narrating voice and all your videos are quite informative. I like how you explain a lot of the things going on with each catch. All your Galesburg footage has me very amped for my first visit there next month! Keep up the great work.
I caught this local 2 times so far. I live in Norman, and I love to ride my bike to the tracks and film. Some of my best catches. It’s also pretty funny that I have 629 in HO scale.
The train with the NS and the CP was a empty dried distillers grain train from Algoa, TX to Marion, SD. They dropped the CP off at some point in their journey so I only was able to see the NS, pretty cool tho!
When I was about 10 years old I lived about five blocks from the Burlington northern Maine through Omaha Nebraska and I often spent my summer days down by the crossing near my house to watch Burlington northern and Missouri Pacific Trains roll through as their tracks were side-by-side. One day when I was about 10 or 11 years old or so a Burlington northern freight was stopped just short of the crossing and the crew allowed me to come up inside the cab of the engine I believe it was an SD 40-2. My friends never believed me. how cool of them to do that for you.
Love these videos! Would love to see more galesburg footage/other loco shops footage! Warbonnets are quite rare… BUT 2 ON 1 Train!?!? Great video from me in Australia!
Wow, had no idea any 600 Series units were patched and repainted into the "Fakebonnet" livery! BNSF #681 is a very interesting unit! Many GP60Ms and a few C40-8Ws and B40-8Ws were patched/repainted, though. BNSF #539 being one of them.
Could you possibly do a video explaining why we see foreign power on other railroads ? , I know the reasons why for long-distance it’s easier to just swap the cruise instead of locomotives out but I live in West Virginia, and I saw a set of 2 older CN units, working as pushers at the EX VGN trackage in Mullins and they have been there for a couple of months now
GECX isn’t buying the locomotives, because they were theirs to begin with. BNSF is just renting them from GE, and whenever an engines lease is up, GE takes them back.
@@Southern_Plains_Railfan but I still see BNSF reporting marks even tho GECX is writing over the BNSF mark. I honestly thought that GECX bought them back from BNSF and thanks for the information
They’d be fired immediately, as anyone who isn’t a railroad employee isn’t allowed on the locomotives, and it’s also trespassing if you’re a civilian on railroad property/equipment.
Merch, anyone? okieprint.com/SPR/shop/home
I like the merch when I get paired I’m going to buy a shirt

681 is indeed the only ATSF Warbonnet with BNSF lettering. Very cool catches!

What part of Oklahoma are you from?
How can engineers get in trouble if the railroad finds out about them?
