Will be visiting Japan pretty soon and have been debating if I should bring my Mini 3. I was planning on flying around less crowded areas like Shichirigahama beach but all of these regulations make me think that I should just leave it at home. Not too concerned about registering and trying my best to follow the rules, but I also don't want to end up getting fined for accidentally breaking a rule I didn't even know.:(

Definitely register the drone, and check out a drone map before taking off. Unless you're flying around airports, densely inhabited districts, or other restricted areas, you should be fine.
Just note that the Coast Guard has jurisdiction over the water, so if you go out far over the ocean, that might get their attention. Along the beach should be no issue.
There are some amazing arial shots around Japan, so I hope you can bring it and get some great footage.

@@weeklyfascination thanks for the tip. I just finished registering my drone. I normally try to fly in areas with very few people around. Last time I flew around Shirahama beach and got some great footages. Hopefully everything will go okay again this time. Hopefully you won’t hear about me in the news 😅

Registration doesn't help if you have to register eaxh and every flight beforehand.

I should be clear that you don't need to register every flight. The company that didn't register their flight over the freeway was required to notify authorities, but if you fly over rice fields, you don't need to tell anybody.

Lake Kawaguchi looks ok according to the drone map app. It's possible to fly in Japan with no problems as long as you follow the rules.
Since the DJI Mini 3 is over 100g, you'll need to register it. Follow the directions in parts 1 and 2 of this series to register your drone:

The law is Japan is serious. Not like USA. That's why Japan is so much better country.

They are very serious about drones. But it's a much smaller country, so it's much easier to patrol.
