    The most impressive thing in Mushoku Tensei is 100% the charecters. I can't remember a series with so many distinct characters each fully fleshed out with their own motives and problems, every single character has flaws and each Villain in the show gives the reader a chance to Empathize with them. Most importantly no matter how fast or slow the pacing is everything feels important in some way.

    I totally agree with everything you said here. The part of MT that really sets it apart is that throughout the story, I constantly found myself wondering "who exactly is Rifujin that he can write such realistic characters with realistic personalities?" Every single character feels REAL, the world feels REAL, everything. I found myself making comparisons between these fictional characters and people I know in real life, then thinking "what would ____ do in this scenario?" and it would play out as I thought. I even consulted some of these people I know IRL just to see if it was just my bias! It's seriously a masterwork among masterworks, and both the LN and anime are my absolute #1 favorites in their respective mediums.

    There's a Family Complex in Greyrat Family
    Politic really heavy
    How this world Work,
    Mage and Swordman Rank System, also have detail Sword Style (Sword God Style, North God Style, Water God Style)
    And the World it self have a story why there's a Demon, Beast People, and another race. And why every continent have really different vibes.
    Even there's a unique Magic from other Race like Migurdia that can use magic can telepath, and Beast People that can using unique magic Sound Magic. Even Orsted Dragon Race has a Unique magic that he use when he absorb Rudy Fire Magic.
    And the Multiple God and also Seventh Great Power.
    Mytholgy Refference
    And Past story like Laplace story that connect with our main character that try to help Ruijerd.
    When we get the complex story but our main character just want to live peacefully
    Even if our main character isn't reincarnated yet this world already have heavy history.

    1) World building and i dont need to say a lot about that
    2) Family and relationships issues and causes- let me explain how.
    See this 1 thing that mushoku tensei grasp very strongly is our/viewers/humans tendency to always peak into someone else's life.
    We want to family issues or relationship issues of other persons. And that it has a lot. Re zero is amazing without a doubt but people could connect it to personal level. Even orsted has his own personal issues despite all other larger than life things.

    I was hooked in the first 6 episodes. I watched them over and over, no other Isekai starts this way, the wholesomeness of Zenith, combined by the comic relief of Rudeus the maid and his childhood friend Sylphie. Really brought the series to life for me, his development with Roxy also left an impact on me, the only thing I can compare it too was my relationship with my Aunt (minus all the perversion), as a kid she was the only maternal figure I could rely on, she taught me so much and offered me words of encouragement when I was down. Every time she came to visit my heart was filled with joy, those first few episodes reminded me of that, so maybe I'm a little biased based on my personal experiences.

    Mushoku Tensei is a perfect example of how you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. I remember listening to Comics Perch(a great channel), and he was doing a retrospective on Scott Pilgrim. He was talking with his guest about how nowadays, many webcomics are looked down upon because they often recycle a lot of tropes and don't do them well. Perch remarked how reading Scott Pilgrim reminded him of why those tropes got famous in the first place and appreciated how well they were crafted. Mushoku Tensei was the progenitor that inspired a lot of modern Isekai, like Slime, Re; Zero.
    But ultimately, Mushoku Tensei handles those elements really well. For example, Rudy isn't perfect. He's got serious issues and flaws which the series actively showcases why they are bad(no, you're not a bad person for liking Rudy. He's fictional). But the series also showcases how Rudy manages to slowly change. That his prior life was that, prior. He can change and become someone else. It's a textbook example of a second chance series(which are very rare in real life), and it is leveraged excellently. Plus, the series has an excellent supporting cast and fully fleshed-out world. In short, it's a series that I argue shows the best of Isekai, much like Now and then, here and there, Escaflowne, Twelve Kingdoms, etc. and the older Isekai that existed.
    Where the characters are at the forefront and also it leverages the concept of a world by making it believable, with races, creatures, languages etc. In short, it's pretty close to being a masterpiece, if the series can keep up the quality.

    I know it has some good narratives and themes, but, from its concept, I don't care about any of that. All the good things in the story lose meaning because use the escapism of "isekai" and the "wish" for better given conditions (e.g. appearance, innate potencial, social background, family relationships, communication skills, etc) to enacte a false redemption story. False, because the protagonist doesn't make the innitial effort to change for the better, is just put in a conditional were he can naturally be better. Even if he later make an effort, the most difficult part, the innitial step was already granted for free.
    In contrast with other animes that just want to tell simple stories (which is the majority), of course it looks like something "mature", but just make a comparison with other media that want to have a deeper meaning, and you would see this anime is nothing out of the ordinary. And even then, the fact that the author end up giving the protagonista the classic "harem ending" make everything even more hypocritical that just giving the "harem ending" to the generic anime; because at least those animes didn't camouflaged their basic narrative.

    Some minor and one significant spoiler below.
    I loved how all the characters slowly changed throughout the story. Rudeus goes from a disgusting excuse for a human being to a respectable man who can draw 5000 people to his funeral. Eris learns how to calm down and becomes a competent Sword God Style teacher. Sylphy gains her own identity and learns to stand on her own without support from anyone. And Roxy learns humility and becomes a genuinely good teacher. Of course that is not to mention all the side characters and how they change. Perhaps the biggest change of all is Orsted and how he changes from someone who needs to do everything by himself to someone who leans on his comrades and friends.
    And there is also the fact that Rudeus is like stupidly overpowered by normal standards, yet when faced against any of the 7 great world powers, or even just someone at Saint rank or higher in swordsmanship, he suddenly looks weak by comparison and needs support from his allies to survive, much less win.

    From the Isekai I've seen so far, mushoku tensei feels like the one true isekai. Not to say the others aren't but it feels like it really shows the potential of what isekai can be. A story about second chances, about making the best of those second chances and fucking it up sometimes. I think this is where the true theme of this genre lies. Not in the power trip fantasy or the lesson of friends being the real tresure. Those have places in other fiction too, but isekai seems to be the only fantasy genre where you can truly take a character who hasn't had a good run in our world, and make himself better through the hindsight of a shitty life.

    Well, what I believe makes Mushoku Tensei so great, is its properly planned-out story. It's like you said, everything that is explored or given at least some focus in the story, has a purpose to play in it, even if it takes some time for the reader to understand what it is. This is the opposite of what most other isekai do, which just make up stuff on the spot and never actually think about proper setups and payoffs in their story.
    If their stories happen to be successful they then run into considerable problems, because their worldbuilding was never really thought through and they just end up making up a bunch of sometimes contradictory worldbuilding elements, retconning some stuff in the process. Classical examples of this would be after the defeat of the "unbeatably powerful" villain, a new even more "unbeatably powerful" villain shows up, who for some reason has never been mentioned up this point. In contrast, in Mushoku Tensei the 7 Great World Powers are introduced very early, effectively eliminating the possibility for the author to just endlessly add new more powerful characters, which would only ruin the established worldbuilding.

    I really want the alternative story to be written by the author based on vol 16 (if you know what I mean). If it exist, it'll prob gonna be another masterpiece. Tho more violent.

      What you are referring to is Battle Aura, or Touki in Japanese. Laplace couldn’t use Touki either and Rudeus was born with the Laplace Aspect so it makes sense.
      I’d call it an offset more so than a disability because Rudy has the largest mana capacity in the entire MT universe and pretty much nobody aside from Julie, Sylphie and his kids can use voiceless incantations.
      Biggest drawback is that you can’t go beyond advanced rank for the 3 sword styles without Touki.

    I agree that it's web novel feel's a little bit slow paced but i think that is what the writter was going for, i think the slow slice of life pacing of mushoku tensei was intentional because rudy main goal was to live a normal life.
    By the way what were the scene that you feel was anticlimactic, and what do you think about mushoku tensei ending

    • @Tsunul
      @Tsunul  2 года назад +3

      Spoilers for the WN
      I think the main antagonist's death was anticlimactic. He's hyped up as being very resourceful yet just die's to the saint class fire spell, I'd have thought he'd have some plan in store. I know the reasoning is he couldn't wear armor to protect against fire like he did with earth, because it'd weigh too much. But I thought at the very least he'd dig like a hole or something to try and survive in. Although the ending is amazing. I think that the ending was the perfect way to end off the series and it's probably one of my favorite endings in fiction.

    • @nguyendi92
      @nguyendi92 2 года назад +4

      @@Tsunul Spoiler for the WN,
      I, on the other hand think it's a fitting end. Very logical and natural since Rudy has already full counter his plan. Rudy using fire spell is unthinkable to him, so that's why he lose. It also give the story the time for them to talk. If he didn't got done in already, other people would just instantly killed him since he was too unpredictable.
      Thinking the whole war was like a chess game is more fitting IMHO, and the Antagonist is a King piece. Rudy already sacrifice every stronger chess pieces to counter the the other side. Delivering checkmate with a pawn is also a fitting end.

    • @Zoom03352

      @@nguyendi92 why is using fire spell unthinkable to him?

    • @petermuller9480
      @petermuller9480 2 года назад +2

      Yeah, I agree. I think this was the writer's intention behind the pacing. But I also think, that it makes the story more "realistic" - if you can call it that - if there are faster, more thrilling parts of the story with more action and then again slower parts that focus more on domestic issues, character building/progression and worldbuilding. Said aspects are vitally important for a well-constructed fantasy world like in Mushoku Tensei and they are exactly what the other (frankly inferior) isekai stories are lacking.
      Hence, I believe that the partially slower pacing in Mushoku Tensei actually works entirely in its favour and elevates it over the other superficial isekai stories, that are so fast-paced, that they don't even have any time for proper world- or characterbuilding.

      Biggest difference is the light novel added a chapter, which is chapter 7 and it will be adapted in the second season of the anime.
