A mini-documentary made by me out of boredom from being isolated during Covid-19.
I've spent a good 6 years searching for content from this tour and I thought it would be about time I share what I've found, and share the whole story with you people.
This video includes basically everything I know about this tour, along with almost every picture I could find online of the tour.
While there are a few images I didn't include, I wanted to mainly show off the harder to find pictures rather the more commonly found ones on the internet.
I hope you enjoy, I might do more content like this in the future where I talk about tours of bands I like.
My channel is not monetized so I'm gaining no profit from this video, merely just made for entertainment purposes.

I think it's funny the VA for Noodle was given the hat she wore in most of the pictures to make it believable that the band was actually there, but didn't give anything else to the other band members to make them look like 2-D, Murdoc, or Russel. Imagining Damon with a 2-D-like wig is a funny thought.

The live performances of the Gorillaz Live Tour (2001-2002) were filmed by Ceri Levy, Gorillaz filmmaker for Phase 1 and 2 of the band and were officially archived on RUclips and used on the documentary Bananaz (2008).

It still baffles me that the Ed Case refix was played live but not the Soulchild remix of 19-2000, it was perfect for the live band they had.

    • @trivial7

maybe because the Ed Case refix is UK Garage, which shows their roots? no clue

What an amazing video! I love how detailed the whole thing is. The Phase 1 shows are the most interesting concerts Gorillaz have performed, so it’s cool to learn the history behind it all. Especially since it’s the least documented Phase out of all of them. I just hope that a lot of people see this video, because it is incredibly well researched and entertaining.

This video is truly incredible and something I've needed for years. Phase 1 is my favorite era and was definitely the most interesting to me, with how little it is documented relative to future Gorillaz endeavors. All this time I never knew there was a US tour, or shows in Mexico or Canada! I thought it was just the UK tour and the random eastern Asia shows. It feels nice to have a bit of closure on this personally once- mysterious era that I've been so intrigued by for so long.

This video made me realize that ill always love phase 1 of gorillaz out of all of them. I love gorillaz, but idk something about damons process of making that album was genius and hasnt been done since. Again i love all of gorillaz albums, i grew up on self titled and demon days, and have great memories of plastic beach, shit i payed to see them live back in 2018. I just feel that dubby sound of phase 1 shouldve stuck, but maybe thats just cuz i love me some reggae, ska and dub.

This is amazing! I was also an avid fan of Gorillaz but even though I moved on to other bands like Nirvana, I still listen to them on a regular basis and am proud of the souvenirs I got at live shows. This actually seems like a TV documentary. And the fact you made this in the few months that covid took effect, I am absolutely blown away! Stay safe and stay frosty.

TWO DAYS!?! You are a amazing editor! Very informative too! If only Gorillaz had a professional film crew like Nirvana did at the Paramount theatre. I definitely still think a lot of footage and a ton of pictures exist but have either slipped through the cracks or are being mummified in someone’s basement.

@Jack Leavitt Ever wonder why they didn’t play New Genius (Brother)? It’s either due to circumstances outside of Gorillaz' control or due to budgetary reasons.
Update: "New Genius (Brother)" had finally been performed by Gorillaz live on tour in late 2022. So after 21 years, they finally performed the song live along with other songs from albums like G-Sides (2001) and D-Sides (2007) and other songs that have not yet been on the tour.

@Jack Leavitt For some reason, New Genius (Brother) was never actually played in the Gorillaz Live Tour from 2001-2002 because Cheesyboi made a video stating that Gorillaz refused to play this song live on any concerts whatsoever throughout the years from 2001-2018. It wasn’t even included on the live track list.

The movie theater version of the Toronto Docks performance is now up on YT, which is very cool as not only is Gorillaz first Canadian show archived fully, it gives us more HQ versions of the visuals for songs not on Celebrity Takedown.
