I love Jason Sudekis and honestly miss him on SNL sometimes (although I’m glad he left because if he didn’t, we wouldn’t have the masterpiece that is Ted Lasso)
I want them to do a whole mockumentary about Lulu Diamonds and have Melissa do fake film clips and being interviewed as an old lady, and have SNL vets be film critics and filmmakers influenced by Lulu Diamonds. That'd be amazing.

Melissa did sketch comedy with the Groundlings for decades. She probably had this character ready to go and wanted to show off her physical comedy skills.

Her slapstick and the goofy and perfectly over-the-top acting makes it even funnier. When she says "bananas and cheddar" after falling down the stairs again, it slays me. : )

There's something so charming and gut bustingly hilarious about someone taking multiple pratfalls down half a flight of stairs. Physical comedy at its most pure!

I've been on an SNL binge, and I just discovered this glorious sketch. As a fan of TCM and 1930s movies, this is absolutely hysterical to me. I don't know what I find the funniest - the repeated falling down the stairs, the 1930s slang, the exclamation of "Oh, Lulu, no!", or Robert Osborne's comments. This is genius comedy.

@@Marille7982 about 4:28 to about 4:34 I think it was because she really was coming down with some velocity and was bouncing a lot more than the last 3. And she collided with the guard rail 😂. Its probably why some people call her the female Chris Farley. Just fearless and willing to hurt themselves to entertain a crowd.

Poor Melissa must have been SO bruised and battered after shooting this, all that falling down stairs. She is wonderful in it though. I love how she uses her size and just OWNS it.
