Menteng isn’t the richest area in Jakarta. The richest area in Jakarta is Sudirman Thamrin, Pondok Indah, PIK, BSD City and they have high-English proficiency called Jaksel language
Such a vast gap between the rich and the poor... when I watched videos of people living under the bridges and then see these luxurious area, it's heartbreaking.
blame the government.. everyone moves to Jakarta even without any job (just bet on luck) because everything in regional cities is still very limited at that time. especially job vacancies. Nowadays no one believes that even the working class lives in Jakarta (had a home) unless they are illegal. the government ignores it because eviction is useless. they will come back if they see empty land even if it belongs to the government. There was a fire tragedy that hit the congested residents' housing complex near the station some time ago. but some people have no pity on them because they were illegal. the dirty trick worked here, some beggars in Jakarta that are living on the riverbank are those who have a cars and big houses in their villages. We hold the title of a generous country, not just empty talk. this is really real story. public secret. so you don't need to pity them. it's their own life choice. but it doesn't mean there aren't any who are truly poor, it's just.. banyak oknum.
the beggars you see on the streets are sometimes not as poor as the ones you see in their villages..they have big houses and some even have vehicles...they come to Jakarta to work but without good skills and education so they don't get a job so begging is the only way the path they chose and they were reluctant to return to their hometown
Of all these people, there are still some who are truly poor, it's just that we don't know who are truly poor. Maybe you don't believe that Indonesian beggars even have tens of millions of rupiah in their hands... and that's real... they look very sad but in their bags there are tens of millions of rupiah. And Indonesian citizens are truly alms givers.
Rich people in Menteng rarely sit and relax in the park, those you meet are not people from Menteng... because I ever live near Suropati Park since i was born .. rich people in Jakarta are proficient in English because they are educated
True, he just met wrong locals.. I speak fluent English, Dutch, Arabic, etc like a native, I am a complete multiracial blood mix, living around the world all alone since a child.
The big house with big garden at your right is the residence of the US Ambassador for Indonesia. Next to it is his vice Ambassador. Surrounding the park is residence of Indian, British and Dutch Ambassador. There is also the official residence of Governor of Jakarta and at your left is the high rank military officer club house. Across the main road slightly to the left is the official residence of the Vice President of Indonesia.
Menteng actually was the first Indonesian real estate area, built in the 1920s-30s developed by a Dutch Company called de Bouwploeg, that you can still see their office, but now, it's converted to be a mosque (Masjid Cut Meutia)..nowadays most of the houses are new buildings, owned by some very rich people..some of them still in their genuine form and considered as heritage buildings protected by laws..the problems is, living in this area is very expensive, especially for paying the yearly land and building taxes. Some people who owned the houses were the family of high grade govt or military officers in the past years (60s-80s), even the 2nd Indonesian President used to live in this area, same street with the guy in the football jersey..
Most Indonesian people dont speak english very well because for them english is just their third or fourth language. Also they are not having much contact or gaving business to do with foreigner. So you would rarely found Indonesian person speak english fluently and perfectly and finally the foreigners forced themselves to learn our language. Still you can find people or area with good amount people can speak good english like in bali and lombok.

Cannot buy Starbucks but beside Starbucks before the Starbucks store there is kopi kenangan 😅😅😅😅😅 i mean you can buy kopi kenangan it's our local brand coffee shop. But anomali coffee it's good. But it's far than kopi kenangan 😅😅😅
this is Suropati park. on the left side is the official residence of Jakarta governor next surrounded by huge garden is the official residence of US amabssador. this area s the old money area. I grew up in this area too. My family had lived in this area for more than 40 years before we moved to South Jakarta. In the past not every one was allowed to hang out in that part. because surrounding the area were the official residencers of high ranking govet official/high ranking generals. the part always gurade by tanks and militaries. Only people who lived in those area was able to hang around.as a child my nanny used to take me sat around the park. my late father was on of the high ranking govt officials
I think Indonesians don't really feel the need to learn English proficiently. Especially when it's not a very touristic area. They'll start to make it a priority when it will become one and they need it to work. It's a hard language for their local tongue. Not to mention learning new grammar rules. Not colonized by Britain is also a factor. Although indonesians are too proud to learn their dutch colonizers language anyway. 😅
@johnybony9943 yeah what I mean is those who are colonized by the British learn English and speak rather fluenty. Indonesians were colonized by the Dutch but unwilling to learn their language. Did you get it? Or were you just trying to criticize my English? I don't get your intentions.
@@deed9430Indonesians/natives weren't unwilling to learn Dutch. It was official policy of the VOC/Dutch for a long time to not teach Dutch. And a higher percentage of the Indonesian population speak English than India. Indonesia is lower on proficiency rating but a greater percentage speaks conversational English. Not all British colonised countries speak English. Burma, Kenya, Sri Lanka - for example, low levels of English.

Menteng is an OLD MONEY area, those houses you showed prob start at ten's of million dollars. What I made monthly in the US prob. Can't even cover to pay the property tax😂. Good video by the way, no RUclipsr ever review the area, which is part of Jakarta that actually expected but an odd ball in a way bc it's located in the heart of Jakarta but different in certain thing, compare to the surrounding areas.
@@myertravels But Menteng isn’t the richest area in Jakarta (in 1950s-1990s yeah). But now, you can go to Pondok Indah in South Jakarta where the houses can be more expensive than Beverly Hills. PIK 2 in North Jakarta which is the houses could be like modern-classic with the beachfront view. Pantai Mutiara where the houses have private yacht. Or Sentul City where the houses are No cables, 70% park and mountains. Also their houses can be minimum 2000 sqm. Other wise area in Jakarta: BSD City, Kota Wisata Cibubur (Raffles Hills), Alam Sutera, Lippo Karawaci, Summarecon Gading Serpong, Kelapa Gading, Kemang (most of foreigners live here), Summarecon Bekasi, Meikarta.

Assalamuallaikum Walcome to indonesia
Ini memang daerah elite , ini taman surapati
this is Suropati park. on the left side is the official residence of Jakarta governor next surrounded by huge garden is the official residence of US amabssador. this area s the old money area.
Proud to learn dutch colonizer language??
Also, Dutch is the most pointless language to learn. Even the Dutch realised that.
I see what you mean. It's interesting to see how language learning priorities can differ depending on location and needs.
Pondok Indah has bigger house & more nature
Ya kamu benar orang indonesia rendah bahasa english karna indonesia punya 700 bahasa.dan setiap daerah punya bahasa sendiri.

Yeah Menteng is definitely a whole different world! The houses are truly unbelievable
Pondok Indah is actually being the most luxury townhouse in Asia where their houses can be at least 1 hectare and they have tens of super cars. Hundreds (5%) of Indonesian celebrities live here
