  • The pencil spin is a spinning pole exclusive spin in this tutorial break down (yes, there are variations for static pole). These are one of those moves that will wow audiences with their effortless look but anyone who has tried them knows that they are FAR from effortless! The pencil spin requires significant arm strength, core strength, and neuromuscular control to maintain a plank-like position despite the disruptive centripital force. But don't despair! YOU GOT THIS! The only way to get stronger for pole is to DO pole! I'm going to walk you thru the progressions to start building the strength and coordination for the pencil spin so that one day, what was once your workout will become your warm up. This one is for ALL LEVELS of polers! The more often you do these and work them into your regular pole training the easier they get. We're going to walk thru three variations of the pencil spin, beginner, intermediate and advanced! Which one are you able to do on your fav and fabulous side? How about your less, fav and fabulous side? Same level or a little more of a struggle?
I strongly urge you to work these into your regular pole training. Just one or two to your max hold in each direction every time you pole.
For those of you doing the advanced version...how many pull ups did you get?!! Challenge yourself in the upcoming week(s) to see how many of these you can do or how long you can hold it!
This one is a beautiful move to work into your pole pass or performance piece, but also a crucial pole conditioning spin to help improve your core strength, arm strength and body awareness on spinning pole. I make these pencil spins part of my regular pole conditioning!

You are an epically awesome teacher. I am 68 coming back to pole after a few years. Started at 50. My ambitions are much more humble. I appreciate your building style!

I would say I am about level 2, better on my right side. I am aiming for level 4, climbing the pole in pencil 😂. It may take a few more years.
