I love Mike’s RUclips content because he explains everything in depth unlike any other RUclips fitness channel. I have been training for over a decade and I’ve start to take his advice in the gym while training and it’s been extremely beneficial and I finally know what mind muscle connection is now.
Mike I tried this yesterday, I’m the example of wide but not thick mid back and traps, I used this on chest supported rows and pull downs and smoked mid traps and upper back much lighter weight was needed, I’m Powerlifter and always kind struggle with upper back strength and thickness, thanks again
O boy you cracked me up! I think I should be acting as your provocateur and arrange for your collaboration with Greg! Long time ago I made a video "strong men dont gossip" and yes I was making the same exact point. I lament the languishing spirit of this beautiful activity of lifting. All the best.
You are a genius!!!!! The guys I see at the gym only know three exercises , overhead press, incline press and bicep curl. They never look in mirror sideways. Front delt is overworked, legs are toothpicks, etc, They don’t want to learn anything!!!!
I'm glad you relayed all this because I'm about strength but tbh it has to be mixed in with breaking the fibers. Crushing, burning feeling when training. Not just pressing shit. Thankfully, I've always trained with that in mind with heavy, yet doable weight for contraction.
Always have a tendency when pulling to rick back and lean. Feels weird and confusing to try and push my chest into the pad while raising it. You’re naturally gonna rock back a bit
I always questioned myself if switching to flat bench only with free weights/barbell and then hitting incline/decline/flat on machines was a good move, after a few months I feel like it’s more productive for sure. Dream to have you train me one day
This year I found out I have a herniated L5-s1 grinding on each other and some other issues with it. It's been physically mentally emotionally and spiritually exhausting dealing with it. Almost everything fucks with it and as a construction worker Its been hard man cat walk or bend over some days. Dr said eat pills and don't do anything strenuous... What a load of shit. I've always had a naturally strong back so I have definitely neglected it over the years and now I'm completely lost and trying to not let it get in my head. Any suggestions would be awesome!! Do I deadlift? Do I do rows? Extra core work? Or do I just stfu and lift?? Anyway thanks in advance to anyone that responds!!
Talk to a sports physio or a sports orthopedic surgeon and get proper tests done. You're not going to get accurate advice from strangers on the internet. Good luck. *edit* when i broke a bunch of vertebrae and ribs I went with Dr. McCance in New York
@@Camarija sure that'd be great but I'm not rich at the moment so I think I'll take whatever advice I can get from strangers on the internet. I'd rather do some fact finding for free ya know?? Maybe a sports therapist will read my comment and go hmm maybe he should try this!! I have been to Dr and specialist and they just push pills and run more tests and scans and bullshit. Im not asking for an exact explanation of the problem or a perfect plan for a perfect and complete recovery? Appreciate your opinion though.
@@perseusbeatkrakenI had a suspected herniated disk a while back but never confirmed with a doctor. What helped me was strengthening my abs, hamstrings and spinal erectors. I had to stop squatting, leg pressing and deadlifting because they hurt and fucked me up too much. What I did to help was hanging leg raises and just dead hangs, they felt great to get tension off my spine and stretch me out, I did RDLs with very light weight since I couldn’t bend too much, 45 degree back extensions with light weight was able to pump my spinal erectors and took away some pain, then some sit ups when I started feeling better and got some of my rom back. If you can’t do that due to pain then just walking around can help. If any exercise does hurt, stop immediately. You’ll just make it worse if you try to fight through the pain, if it’s very mild pain do what you can but don’t push it. After my workouts I also did some light stretching for a couple minutes too
Hey man I am 23 and been bodybuilding for almost 10 years and have naturally gotten huge. Herniated the same disc a year ago and will say that ultimately you should continue to do anything you can that doesn’t cause pain. Generally you’ll want to avoid extreme spinal flexion and be careful in that regard. Maybe start with high rack pulls and progress towards full DL. definitely extra core work. Bird dogs, dead bugs, pallof press, true “core” work opposed to shit like hanging leg raiders, crunches. Back/hyper extensions will be your friend. Strengthening muscles such as glute medius, hip flexors, erectors, healthy pirifirmis etc. continuing being active was the best medicine for me, days I’m constantly moving with 12-15,000 steps are always better. Alcohol severely inhibits recovery and makes it difficult for nutrition to reach the disc. You’ll get better, it won’t be easy but makes you take a step back and focus on the little things and truly enjoy the things that you are able to do.
Also, PT will definitely help and is recommended especially to get a base on rehab exercises. I have a MS in Exercise Phys so I was pretty comfortable going to 2-3 sessions a month and doing the work daily on my own. But at the end of the day these things just take time and PT will just help increase QOL ideally reducing the amount of time before healing.
I'm glad you told me that before I get to far, cause I want to be able to knock fire from someone if necessary,😂 boy I'm glad cause I didn't know that's why them dudes be like that 🤣🤣🤣 Thank you!👍🏾💪🏾💯
Agree with everything except....Karma doesn't exist. You can do all the good in the world and it will NEVER come back to reward you. You can also be evil as F and live a very long and privileged life only caring about yourself. Life sucks for most people on Earth. The struggle is just to make it a little bit more bearable by achieving and celebrating small victories. If you're lucky, yes lucky, they will add up to something big.
2 minutes in and I've just realized I've been making a massive mistake with my low rows. Once again Mike, thank you for your wisdom.

He's spot on regarding incline bench. As he was talking, I recognised he was describing me!
Same
Exactly, i felt same for myself..
Great information. Very helpful! And the rants are beautiful 😂🎉
Thanks
The man went from talking about back rows to introspective life situations. The kind of talk that I be having at the gym lol.
So much truth in this video from beginning to end.

Great advice. I find back the hardest body-part to connect with.

Everybody needs a MVW , sucks we can’t have one 😂 , awesome job dog , one of the best ones yet, 💯👍
Truth bombs everyday !!!
Good back exercises if your gym has no chest supported rows?
Always have a tendency when pulling to rick back and lean. Feels weird and confusing to try and push my chest into the pad while raising it. You’re naturally gonna rock back a bit
Here for the shortcuts
“Be A Squirter” better be a new shirt!
Incline bb press always hurt my shoulders, but I can do them with dumbells on a very low incline so feel them less in my front delts.
fundamentals are the best exercises
I always questioned myself if switching to flat bench only with free weights/barbell and then hitting incline/decline/flat on machines was a good move, after a few months I feel like it’s more productive for sure. Dream to have you train me one day

I hide in my house but I don’t pick on anyone. I wished I had bat-cave basement gym. So every-time I walk up the stairs I feel bat heroic
Lesson today from jacked Ragnar Lothbrok: dont be an over-reacher. Be a squirter. Got it 👍
I also never understood why some guys separate chest and shoulders. Any press or flye also hits the front delt.

but i dont have that machine in my gym, so i have to use things like dumbbells :(
New merch cuming “ be a squirter , not a shirker!!” 😂

Back Squirt training!!😂

Wish i had machines at home free weight is better any how
Mike using examples of roided out bodybuilders is hilarious.
I'm afraid I have to disagree with Mike. My super heavy straight-arm bench press program is awesome.
Stop ranting. Get lifting dude.
It’s nothing , but a Rant . 🤒
12:10 :D:D:D I'm dying
