I am a 50-year-old veterinarian. I bought a living room type Smith machine and Cabble Cross. I turned the clinic into a gym and I have a training program 6 days a week. It is really good for both mental and health. I love you
The cue to keep shoulders pinned/down and back.. to push your body into the bench... and to drive the crease of your elbows together pretty much explains what he's trying to say. Cues to a perfect bench press while avoiding injury. This applies to all presses.
Such a well-timed video for me! I've made some progress with my upper chest work and the cues you're sharing (bicep/front delt, double chin) sound really appealing. Can't wait to try them out. Also, please oh please do a mean comment reaction video! 🍿🍺
This has to be one of the best videos i have ever watched...i literally did the movement while sitting in my chair and holy shit i feel it in my chest. Cant wait to test this out on tomorrows chest day. Thank you for this grate video.
Mike Van Wyck, always giving me the "Meat and Potatoes" necessary for the process of Becoming that which I am meant to Be. As always, many thanks good sir.
Guy seems extremely knowledgeable and big time committed to the iron….I’d actually ask him to pick me apart just to learn 2-3 new things about how I could improve 🤣🤣
Really wish that 1) RUclips lifting videos were as ubiquitous as they are now when I started training, and 2) Mike started making these videos 10 years ago. Could have saved me a lot of shoulder issues and wasted time in the gym.
“Understand your worth” big Mike on the mic. Also really dig the cues for how to better use your hands for better pressing. Would you have the same approach with dumbbells?
Damn. I've been doing the elbows tucked at the bottom and rotating and turning them on certain presses because I liked the stretch at the bottom but the contraction at the top.. nice to know that's actually a que because I thought it might have been a bit of a no no 😂
Question.. when I do pressing movements I feel like I'm using my lats as weird as that sounds. I feel like I pushing more with my lats than my chest...
If you feel them mostly in your chest then there good! From what I see most people turn them into a shoulder press. But u can definitely hit your chest with them.
Serious question, maybe a silly question.. but why would someone not do the full movement on a chest press and leave out the bottom stretched position, which even Mike says is important and is uncomfortable.
I could watch this video 10 times and "think" I have it down, but I am still certain in a one on one session, Mike would ask me what the fuck I was doing.
New sub, you've prob shared this 100 times but how old are you? I only ask due to there not being many influencers my age and I appreciate the shape you're in, your biceps have insane roundness, cheers. Edit, looking at the other comments I'm safe in saying that I'm prob not gonna get a response to this but heh, like your content so whatever.
Just for myself to be 110% clear, you’re basically doing a micro-reset by shifting your whole ribcage/sternum up while initiating the press? Is there any detriment to trying to keep it fixed in an upward position? Or is that sternum/ribcage reset more of a cue? I love your content Mike, you’ve helped improved basically all of my lifts, i had no idea how shitty they all were lmao
@@donyellmcgee8236 Actually if one was to emphazise upper pecks and did only such exercises one would have around 40 percent larger upper pecks than any other section of their pecks. One can also differentiate their training of their upper pecks into outer upper pecks, inner, mid upper pecks, inner upper pecks ! Sure there'll be even more ''cross training'' more than upper-other parts, but still you can emphazise each of the outer, mid, inner sections of the upper pec. Crazy isn't it. Just train!, is the bodybuilting equilavent of a diet concept ''just eat! ''
Man, yesterday I really put into practice some of your concepts…like working in the range of motion I have; building up to the bigger sets; and strategic use of momentum…that was something else. It really punctuates just how different bodybuilding is to powerlifting or any other form of lifting. Amazing stuff🤌🏿
Now the mysteries of the universe are unlocked. I've learned how to use decline press to hit upper chest. My mind is blown. 😂😂😂 seriously you have helped me a lot and I appreciate it. It's sad I have a degree in exercise science and this is not what is being taught.
Just like your quad extensions. you want people to roll there joints that don't roll. Don't listen to this guy when he says roll your shoulders or knees he will get you hurt and mess your joints up. Especially if you're lifting heavy. He has some good advice but he isn't a professional in body mechanics or movements. He was a pro but not a good one and not one that lasted that long. Also Mike I'm still waiting for you to slap yourself from that namaste, video. Comment left there.
Dude, go watch the guys you find helpful. Most of us are here because Mike's instruction has been (and continues to be) very helpful. We don't care about his credentials.
@@DanBatista well I can see the type of people that are following him. You don't care about his credentials nor do you care if he's telling you something that's going to hurt you. If your shoulder was meant to hold a load and rotate, you'd be able to do a 360 with your shoulder. If your knee was meant to roll inwards, your knee would be more flexible. Your shoulder lifts your arm up straight in front of you and out to the sides. It doesn't roll inwards your knee is like your elbow. It's meant to bend your leg not roll. He is going to get somebody hurt and maybe it's going to be you. You should watch who you follow. Don't be a follower, be a leader and use logic. Let's use Hunter labrada as an example. He is a better pro and has had generations of bodybuilders to help him. He recently did a leg video. When he's doing the leg extension he talks about keeping his femur straight and his toes and legs straight because it's less stress to the knees and joints. This makes sense to roll them does not.
@@DanBatista Also, this guy Mike is just an idiot. First off he made a video titled no mass day. Where he said that he hates when people take other people's cultures (talking about motorcycles), and rips them off and that he wants to slap them when he sees it. when he titled his video nomassday literally ripping off Namaste and taking their culture and ripping it off. So I'm waiting for him to slap himself. Then he starts this video where he says. Do you want to work out less hard and get results faster? Teasing that people are lazy but in reality if he had a good channel he would teach you to do things the right way where you wouldn't get hurt and where you would literally because you're doing things right. Not have to work as hard as when you do things wrong and have to learn and would grow faster because you started doing things the right way. His whole mentality is that of a child? No wonder the best job he had was protecting a chump who thinks he's a gangster who was a Nickelodeon character and an actor acting as if he's tough now, Mike's going around acting like he knows what he's talking about. Both are very obviously not what they're pretending to be.

Pushing the chest up into the neck was a jewel for me. Respect
The rear delt and lateral raises vid is killer. Even the single arm bicep curls, when letting the shoulder drop. Game changers man.
This is my first time watching your channel and your intro is hilarious. I enjoyed the content as well.

such a great vid
If I had only seen all this shoulder advice years ago..............
Love your speech at the end. Dead on. Where can I purchase your merchandise.
Could you add dumbbell variations to videos? My gym basic as fuck
You are a good teacher. Not everybody has that ability.
Sadly that’s a big part of what makes a good trainer. Being a good teacher, explaining the same thing many different ways depending on the person

If you close your eyes and listen to the intro, you sound like Hulk Hogan 😂
Do u have a weird like crease on the left side of your head? Lol. I noticed it when u were talking about “things brands say” I have that same shit!
Heyyyyyy, planet fitness is the only place I can afford…and it is close! But I understand what he is saying and I agree with him.
Stand tall, Mike
I have been wondering how many times Mike has been injured from weight lifting?
I’m still waiting to blow up my back and get my tyrannosaurus traps what happened????? I feel cheated.
