    For your "can't see out the back window" problem, consider a rear view camera with a separate screen that you can use both in the truck and in the camper.

    Hi.. here’s a quick tip. I got tired of pulling my scissors steps off every time when I’m traveling.. even though it just 2 pines to disconnect it… I would always have try a place for it so it doesn’t bounce around ..it gets old after awhile. My solution was I bought a regular hitch that comes out 12 inch past my Lance. And I just fold it and tuck it away between the 12 inch gap.. I secure it with a bungee cord when traveling
    No more wrestling with my scissors steps 😀

    I just watched your video. My wife and I RVed for 45 years in seven different rigs. Started with a van camper and ended with a 40' diesel pusher. In between, we had two pickup campers. We loved them for what we were doing at the time. I have a good solution for your toilet problem. If you let me know you're interested, I'll tell you how to solve the toilet issue. Out of the 45 years, we averaged RVing about 9 months a year. I have a world of knowledge and don't mind sharing occasionally. We RVed just for the fun and adventure. There was no RUclips. I remember our first RV adventure in 1971 and that wonderful feeling of the freedom and adventure is still with me. I hope your are successful and have as wonderful of a time as we had. Thanks for the video! Thumbs up!

    Hey Cass, my daughter and I are very glad to see you on the road again. We have been looking forward to your first reports staying in the truck camper. I had a feeling that the bathroom/shower situation would be a big deal for you, since you really highlighted your facilities in the Basecamp. I have 3 recommendations for the bathing situation: (1) Get some rinse-free shampoo. You have long hair and you will appreciate what this does to make you feel clean when showering isn't easy. (2) Pick a body wash you like and just warm a 1-quart pot of water on your stove and simply bathe with a handcloth. You can get several days feeling grunge-free this way. (3) For emergencies, grab some bathing wipes off amazon. They really do the job in a pinch. Best of luck and we look forward to your next video. Please stay safe and happy!

      Thanks John!! Really appreciate it and that you and your daughter stuck around to check out our first trip in the camper. I went with the sponge bath route for the first 3 days, but by Day 4, I was really craving a true shower. Hoping that will get better with practice, so I'm not heading back into town every 4 days for a shower. I also have a few outdoor options I'm working on, so we'll see what we end up with. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

      @@TailsofWanderlust Well first, just stay safe out there. Second, I know you are a pro with propane so that isn't an issue. For just a regular tent camping site in the Smokeys we have used a propane GASLAND Outdoors BE158R on-demand water heater. Just looking at your camper, I think it may fir mounted on the back to the upper-right of your back door. It is 11x17 inches and sticks out 6. You could set up your shower just to the right of your steps and be all set. It works great, though you need to take just a few precautions in freezing weather. If your shower tent is right next to your door you can just hop back inside before you get too cold. Just an idea.

    Congrats on your new rig setup. I have found that it takes at least a year or more of traveling in a variety of circumstances before you will be generally satisfied with your living conditions and arrangements and even then you find yourself tweaking items here and there. The one suggestion I have for the toilet situation is to always carry a supply of "wag bags". We have a full functioning head in our rig but you never know when that can change and it's best always to be prepared for the worst! They also come in handy when doing a long hike into the wilderness and because of the chemical crystals that react with the waste, they are safe for disposal in landfills so they can easily and safely be put into trash bins. Good luck and have fun with making your camper into a comfortable home on wheels for you and the furry friends!

    For the stairs and Jasper issue, pets tend to have issues with open back stairs, it's something about the open space between each step that messes with them. You could get some fabric and attach it with stick on velcro to make the vertical sections appear solid.

    When I was traveling all over in a Sprinter van making deliveries around the country I read about backpackers using wipes to clean up. Can find camping wipes on Amazon and in stores like REI. They do a good job and if you have a microwave to heat them can have a "hot" bath. There are also dry shampoos that work well. Saved me a lot of hassle and money getting a shower.

I have a 13 foot Trillium fibreglass camper, which I’m having restored (YAY!) but my back window was glazed over and I asked the dude that’s restoring my trailer to replace the window with a clear one. So I thought- Turns out that it wasn’t glazed over but it was privacy film, like a sticker that peeled right off- Hopefully, that’s the case with you. Just a thought. Be Safe!

    Great video. I like to winter camp aa well. As for bathing, I use an enamel wash basin placed on a single burner butane stove to heat the water and Walgreen’s No Rinse Body Wash. Sometimes I’ll drop in a body wipe cloth to warm it up or use a cotton wash cloth.
    The waste water is either poured into the cassette toilet or into a repurposed 2 1/2 gallon DEF jug for easy dumping. Often I use the waste water to ensure the campfire is out before I roll. If you cut the top off the DEF jugs they can make a great catch all container for small items. Not sure I’d use the empty DEF jugs to hold fresh water, though it is temping.
    Have a great Thanksgiving. Stay safe, well, warm and positive.

I have learned over the years that a truck camper is more so a place to sleep and get out of the weather. But I wouldn't have it any other way. Amazon has a back door window that has a pull down shade. I replaced mine for the same reason. Happy Trails!

    Hi Cass, the Mogollon Rim is pronounced "mug - ee - yawn". It is beautiful along the rim and it does get very windy. There are several campgrounds, lakes, and boondocking sites off Forest Road 300. We usually see elk everywhere. The campgrounds usually open towards the end of May. I have a truck camper, I like the Reliance fold to go with disposable bags, much easier to deal with than a composting toilet and takes up very little space. I have found those shower tents worthless in any wind. For a shower I recently got a small shower head with a rechargeable pump and collapsible bucket (from Amazon), works great and I don't waste water like when I use the built in outdoors shower on my Palomino.

      @TailsofWanderlust  Год назад

      Just regular disposable trash bags or the ones with the chemical in them? And with you on the tent. It was windy and I had to hold it down while I was in there 😂

      @@TailsofWanderlust I use the biodegradable 8 gallon Boyone brand on Amazon, plus they are cheap and seem tough.

    We started with a class b early last summer. It does take awhile to get used to everything. Take it one step at a time, iterating organization, storage, upgrades, hacks, etc as you go. Some ideas won’t work. That’s okay, too.

    As far as a heater goes , a Dickinson marine heater might be a good choice , its a mini heater that has a small glass door window which would give a flame view like a wood stove feel and does not use any of the interior air or produce condensation like a propane heater does .

      I had one of those and would have loved to install it. Sadly, don’t have the right wall space with enough height for the vent

    I had the same problem with my pup on those steps. I put self-adhesive carpet stair treads on them, the tight woven indoor outdoor type. Problem solved for about ten bucks. BTW safer for you too when wet or Icey, they have been on for three years in all kinds of weather. Clean the metal with alcohol really good first. Nonskid strips like for boats may work also, the metal under those paws is a little slippery and makes them nervus

    Finally back! Luv the adventures. Where’s the cat? I’ve seen a lot of small diesel heaters installed on peoples rigs ( really small ). That might be a great option and it’ll get its fuel right from your truck tank. Glad you’re back and the rig looks nice and comfortable.

    Hi there. I love your rig. truck camping looks great. I’ve Been a fulltime female in a Sprinter for 3 years. I love my cassette toilet. Easy, clean, no diversion, odorless (w/ porta-pak pod) and I can empty it anywhere with a toilet every 10 days, take 30 secs to empty. Those composting toilets just look like trouble. Just $150ish. Make the switch you won’t regret it.

    I used to go tent camping frequently. We used a catalyst tent heater that ran off of propane. A 16 oz. bottle lasted all night, if I remember correctly...
    You could heat your camper with this as a main source of heat or as an emergency back-up.
    Btw: I really enjoyed your adventure!

    My alerts were off or I would have watched and commented sooner. I am so excited to watch this! You are so articulate, I know your smart and really appreciate the information I get from your content! I want a rig just about like you have, toilet is priority. I understand why you want a compost, if that isn't working well what about a cassette? DO THEY SMELL????

    • @TailsofWanderlust
      @TailsofWanderlust  Год назад +1

      Hi Steve! I've heard from some others that cassette's don't smell. But they are much more of a pain to clean than a composting toilet, and for the size I can fit in this rig, I would have to empty the cassette every few days. I have a new composting toilet on the way so hopefully that helps!
