Honda 7.5hp or 9.9hp Outboard Impeller Replacement Kicker Not Spitting Water or Peeing (BF75 BF100)

  • I have a Honda BF75 outboard boat motor from the 1980s. These 4 stroke Honda kickers are built like tanks and are fairly interchangeable with 7.5hp or 9.9hp motors from that decade (all Honda outboards are 4strokes as far as I know). I got mine with my boat, but it wasn't peeing (or "pissing," as some say) from the telltale, which is a sign of a bad water pump impeller in need of replacement. I'll show you how I fixed mine, and you can, too! After the repair, the old boat motor was spitting water from the tattle tale like a champ!

    Nice job. How do you get the shift shaft out of the lower unit?

      Thanks. The shifter just pulls out. You have to push it it down while moving the prop back and forth slightly to re-engage it when you reassemble.

      @@JasonSipe16 Thanks for the quick reply. I'm trying to swap lower units and the first shift shaft came out fine. The second one is super tight. Not sure how to pull on it. I might try taking the entire shift shaft out from the top, but that looks tricky too.
