Monk Synopsis: Adrian Monk (Emmy®-winner Tony Shalhoub) was once a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, legendary for using unconventional means to solve the department's most baffling cases. But after the tragic and still-unsolved murder of his wife, Trudy, the devastated Monk becomes obsessive-compulsive. His psychological disorder has caused him to develop an abnormal fear of virtually everything: germs, heights, crowds... even milk. Monk's condition costs him his job, but he's back as a police consultant despite the unique challenges he encounters in his everyday life. These challenges lead Monk to hire a personal nurse, Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram), who is always there to offer her assistance, even with the simplest of tasks (like organizing his sock drawer). Her less-than-subtle prodding keeps the "defective detective" on track in his investigations, as well as in his efforts to convince Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) to allow him to return to the force.

Randy asking if it swivels isn't the usual "Randy is dumb" joke, it's uncharacteristically clever; Thomas Jefferson literally invented the swivel chair.
I just came here to say the same thing! I’m like HELLO he invented them it’s not a dumb question lol.
Wow! A joke lost on 99.99% of us (thanks for pointing it out)!
A swivel chair was also in Downton Abbey, and a character mentions it was invented by Jefferson.
@@l.a.3479 lol yeah that taught a lot of people 😊. That’s mine and my husband’s comfort show.
@@l.a.3479 Aunt Violet: “Why does every day involve a fight with an American?”
I like the closing scene wherein Monk thought he would never get reinstated so he placed his uniform away but Sharona who saw him doing it. Knowing he will someday took it out and hanged it as a sign of support no words were said by anyone
That scene was beautiful. I always loved how much Sharona believed in Monk, even when he didn't always believe in himself.
@@nnr997I really wished Sharona saw Monk get his badge back (albeit temporarily).
*Take
@@nnr997 I like Sharona better than Natalie.
@@jwill5892 Likewise. 👍 Sharona was my favourite member of the cast.
A poor old granny, not a pool old granny.
What's wrong with a pool granny? Seems fine.
A formerly poor granny lolling around the pool (that they can now afford).
A pool old granny who was kidnaped.
The couple mistake is that they are too greedy for their own good. If I were them i would just buy the chair with high price from her and get the huge profit from the auction but the couple were just too greedy to make more money
Not really. Like Monk said it himself, if they tried to buy it, there was the risk that they would have looked into it and noticed how much worth the chair was.
If some random dude offers me money for a normal chair, I obviously would be very skeptcical.
@@Grothgerek It is still a matter of greed in the end. If they legibly buy from the old lady she would have it evaluated and demand millions of dollar or at least a percentage from the auction.
@@tomxaider2058I mean, yes. They are still thiefs/criminals. Obviously its greed.
But I wouldn't say that they acted irrational because they were too greedy.
If the grandma had evaluated the chair, then there is the risk that she asks for more than its actual worth (the estimated price isn't necessarily the price it is sold, because you still need a buyer that pays this much). She could also auction it herself, or demand so much that they can't afford it.
In short, if they told her, there would be the risk that they wouldn'tt be able to get anything out f it, if they tried it the legal way.
True, but also a little social engineering and charismatic bluffs could go a long way. "My grandmother left us a living room set in her will, and unfortunately, one of the chairs had internal dry rot and broke beyond repair. THAT chair is from the same set. Since we know it's an antique, and how valuable it is, would you be willing to take $150,000 for it? The living room looks so empty without it, and I want to try and preserve my grandmother's collection."
Tug on heartstrings, give a more than generous offer to someone who clearly didn't know (since they let their cat sit on it), and considering it was the mid 90's, $150k is a stupid offer to pass up for a chair. Yeah, I'd like to have $2.5 million, but $150k is just as lifechanging, and more specific, immediate.
Or, just be upfront and honest, and split the winnings of the auctioned chair 40/60. $1Mil/$1.5Mil is still a huge win for having done little to no work on either person's side.
11:56 "That picture is worth a million dollars"
I really really like to see characters, like this law student girl, that are stupid but nice and for whom everything goes well !
“Monk ! That was my fathers chair” 👀🤣
The only episode that doesn’t have a murder..?
One of them, there are 2 with no murder
And the most ludicrous part is that the couple committed the crime out of petty greed.
@tom isn’t greed one of the more common reasons why people commit a crime?
Why couldn't the police just examine the chair for Julie's and/or her grandmother's fingerprints to prove it had been in their possession? It doesn't make for a cool "gotcha" moment but it certainly makes for more tangible -not to mention admissible in court-evidence.
They could, but that would need a search warrant and for a warrant, you need some evidence that directly ties them to the crime. On top of that, being antique dealers and looking to auction of a two million dollar chair like that, odds are they've already given it a extensive cleaning and possible refurbishment. There could have been no trace of fingerprint or DNA evidence left.
@@Donstheman okay. That makes sense. Thank you for taking time to explain this to me. I appreciate it.

From Randy it was probably something foolish which turned out to be correct. I seriously doubt he knew about Thomas Jefferson.

She was also Denise from King of Queens.
There has to be a better way to trace calls.

capping punitive damages and holding the plaintiff liable for court costs is NOT an improvement.
punitive damages need to be used appropriately, and court costs need to be paid by the crooks
Agreed.
Snobby Antique Store Owners in a fancy lavish house in San Francisco...besides the questionable income(don't know much about the suckers of "fancy" generic household items) their personalities fit.
I don't get how they had proof...they left the house with no proof. Then because Randy didn't sneeze they knew the kidnappers never had a cat. So they went back to arrest them. But not sneezing isn't proof. What did they have that would have held up in court?
did you not see the missing cat flyer with a photo of their chair?
Randy didn't sneeze=> They never had cat => the cat in the flyer wasn't what led them to going in the house => flyer picture had the cat sitting on *_the Chair_* => flyer is photographic evidence the chair belonged to the old lady
Maybe if you see the entire episode you’ll understand the proof. The girl had a picture of the cat sitting on the chair which is proof that the chair was in her house
I’m thinking she was offering some other payment than help getting reinstated.
SPOILERS BELOW:
No, she really did her best to help Monk get reinstated. If I recall correctly, it was an ADA thing; his OCD is a legal disability, and he can’t be kept away from his job for that if he can prove that he’s still able to do the job. So she helped him register to take a reinstatement test, but Monk’s compulsions caused a problem, and he didn’t pass the test in this episode.
I will spoil the monk movie if anyone wants to hear the ending
This show never has any real evidence. It’s always “here’s what happened” and then credits.
Watch full episodes then rethink your logic
@@413dollaz it’s on Netflix. And I have. As a matter of fact, I’ve watched this show when it was running. And I’m currently on season 7. And as of logic, it’s quite logical to bring a case to court with a mountain of evidence. Not just the single word of a brilliant detective. Like I said. Monk always has this elaborate “here’s what happened” moment then credits. Watch the show and tell me how much evidence monk has against the criminal compared to his summation of the case.
The cat was sitting in the chair in the flyer, proof that the chair was in the grandmas house before the kidnapping. This clip alone had proof what you mean?
@@413dollaz I have. Every single episode. And again. No real evidence. Nothing that can stand up in actual court. If you can find actual material evidence that can stand up in court, without monk’s brilliant case solving skills, please share.
@@ibeethatoneguy7807 I know. I watched. But, the only thing that pointed to it being about the chair, was the detective being allergic to cats. He sneezed every time a cat was near. The face he wasn’t sneezing when they got to the house clued them in that it wasn’t about the cat. And stottlemyer was super concerned about his fathers chair that gave monk the idea that it could be about the chair. Any actual evidence? No. But is the case solved? Yep.
