    All my Apple stuff is old; 2012 iMac pro (new HD, maxed ram), 2018 Macbook Air, iPhone 12 pro, and an 8th gen iPad. None of it will die. It all works well for what I use it for. Do I want an all new Apple silicon computers, an iPhone 15, and M1/M2 iPad pro? Heck yeah! But, I just can't justify spending the money to replace something that still works well. THANK YOU FOR BEING HONEST, REALISTIC, AND PRACTICAL.

      Right? The value and price point of the gen 9's is great, especially since they're often on sale. Since I have to be really careful with my SAHD budget it's hard to pay extra for marginal upgrades. The iPad air screen had darker blacks which I'm always a fan of but unless it was side by side with the other iPads the other iPads looked just fine.

      I was going to get the 9th gen, i prefer how it looks but the only 2 reason why i didn't is that all my devices are usb type-c and when going to work on my 15hour shift dealing with one charging cable to power my laptop, phone, headlight and tablet is easier and 2 when watching videos landscape hearing audio from one side gets kinda irritating and headphones isn't an option because as a firefighter i need to hear when the bells go down in an emergency

    It’s absolutely right that you should buy just for your needs and don’t let apple tell you that you need more. However, the points you made are kinda backwards, the camera is actually in a much better spot. I use my ipad pro mostly in landscape mode (like most people I see) and I absolutely despise the camera being on the side. Also m1 is not just a spec bump, it let’s you use stagemanager + some new pro apps

ALL the mothers) who use FaceTime all just sit on their couch and hold it upright with two hands. So that's kind of what I was talking about... if you're sitting at work using it for chatting in video calls then yeah the placement is better for sure. No one I know uses stage manager you know? The m1's were just so rad though. I never really appreciated them until now!

    Glad I found you. Rare to find real reviews by a real user instead of fanboys who are getting kick backs. I’m almost 70, so I needed a bigger screen, really disappointed Apple only make that in the pro, I guess it will see me out. Having said that, my iPad Pro 2017 that I thought was dying has somehow started behaving, so I still use it also. I was duped into believing the pro performance was needed for my work, but it’s not. My old iPad Air 2 (which I use as a monitor for home security), still works well, except for a lousy battery. My wife still swears by her 2015 mini and refuses to upgrade it.

      @TheSAHDLife  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for the comment! That's great your iPad Pro started working well again... I didn't realize they've been making the Pro model for that long. I am one to usually get upgrade-itis but with the way things have been moving in the last 7-8 years, it doesn't feel as revolutionary upgrading as it once did, say going from an iPhone 4 to an iPhon 10 kind of thing. I bought a 2016 OLED Tv from my friend and it's just incredible still.
      New tech is always nice, but using that money for other things that bring joy in life is always nice too.

    I don't think there is such a thing as a bad iPad. I had the original, It was the gateway drug into the world of Mac. I've had several Airs, the original iPad 12.9 with the home button and the 12.9 M1. I've honestly loved them all. They didn't come without frustration. I've never seen them as a Mac replacement, although several have been my daily business carries. Currently I have a M2 Pro 11" and it's a great MBP companion. Ideal for tasks like taking inventory, working a convention, using as a second monitor on the road, taking notes in meetings or just playing hearts in the evening. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I've enjoyed mine! It's really a big part of the Steve Jobs legacy.

      That's awesome, thanks for the share. It seems like a nice accessory... like you mentioned. Not quite a phone replacement, not quite a workstation, but a compliment of both those things. I could see the appeal for the higher models... the screen WAS nicer on the Air, but funds are a bit tight so going for the value gets me most of the same features of the higher models albeit with lesser quality.

    Haha, welcome to the walled garden of Apple! :) - I had an iPad Air 4 but I noticed I didn't use it nearly as much as I thought I would, because it's a bit awkward to type on without a keyboard attached, which limits its usability. However once you attach a keyboard, it's the same weight as a MacBook so then what is the point...
    I love my iPad Mini 8 however as you can type on it a lot easier and it's a huge improvement for content consumption vs a phone and fits in a jacket pocket - also being A5 makes it the perfect size for jotting notes with the Apple Pencil.
    The M1 just gives you Stage Manager, which I don't find that useful on a 10" screen.

    • @TheSAHDLife
      @TheSAHDLife  9 месяцев назад +2

      Do you actually use Stage Manager on your main computer? I tried it briefly but nothing serious.
      I'm loving the Mac stuff but I've got to be honest, I'm having a little buyers remorse. I mean I LOVE editing on this thing and I enjoy the ecosystem, but I do video editing like 10% of the time? I bought the big boy too which is a lot of $$$. If I bought something much less I could get all the other things I want which I can't afford because I bought this thing you know? Lol. What a tough decision! With my SAHD income I have to be very choosey. I think I'm going to make a vid and talk about it on the Studio chan. I'm a value first guy you know so paying a premium for the top shelf stuff is a hard pill for me to swallow.

    • @DigiDriftZone
      @DigiDriftZone 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@TheSAHDLife I bought the iPad Air5 briefly as I thought Stage Manager could be game changing, it was super buggy and unstable at the time being a pre-release. I haven't tried it on a larger screen like on the laptop yet though. I really like the idea of having less windows on the screen and for layouts to be contextual, I'm going to try to live with Stage Manager until the end of the day to see if it works on my 2 display setup :)
      Macs last forever and have great resale value, my last business partner's 2013 (yes 10 years old) Macbook Pro is still fine, he still uses it daily and doesn't see a reason to upgrade, it's still quiet, the screen is retina, it's 300 nits which still holds up great, it has a similar form factor as the modern laptops so it doesn't feel dated at all. He doesn't do video editing but the biggest downside for video editing is the fan noise (Intel) and needing proxies, otherwise I used to edit my drone videos on it.
      My current business partner is on a 2017 Macbook Pro (6 core intel i7), I think he would benefit from Apple Silicon largely for battery life (10+ hours), so I'm giving him my 2020 M1 Pro, I don't really have a real reason to upgrade otherwise.
      If budget is a concern, maybe go for an M1 Max? - Marques Brownlee even said that he has zero reasons to upgrade for video editing from his 2021 M1 Max, you're getting 85% of the performance and it should last you 5+ years quite easily.

      @@DigiDriftZone Haha, first, thanks for the comment. I do appreciate it and that is reassuring to know they work so well years later.
      Well that's just it too right, with the money saved I could buy so much. I need more lights, a better mic... heck I could also squeeze an e-Bike in there too haha. Or build a desktop and get a laptop.
      I guess I'm realizing MOST of my usage is responding to comments, playing light games, browsing social etc... then a couple days of the week I spend all day editing. I guess I feel guilt since I'm not used to spending this much on myself and I know I could get the job done with spending probably less than half.
      There is also some software I have on my Windows laptop that I wouldn't have to pay recurring amounts for (which I would on the Mac) so that too makes me want to stick with Windows.

      I stopped using my desktop for 90% of things (except gaming) when I got my M1 Pro in 2020, it was just faster at everything, despite the desktop having an Intel I7 8700K, 32GB ram, RTX3090. But these days you can find PC components cheap on eBay for gaming/family and use the Mac for everything else?
      What mic are you thinking? - I'm pretty happy with my Rode VideoMic Go 2, it's so convenient to have both 3.5mm and USB-C and Wireless Go 1 when I'm lazy, or on the go, it's also a great tool to turn my Go 2 into a wireless mic.
      I think in this day and age, XLR is just a waste of time/money, dealing with phantom power and external interfaces, extension cables, potential for dodgy connections and gain levels, why... when a USB-C mic connected to a phone or directly to a laptop removes all of the pain for 99.9% of the quality. I am potentially looking to replace the Wireless Go with one that supports the Sony Hotshoe interface, that will remove 1 extra cable, the need to adjust levels and the need to a/v sync in post (not that these things are very time consuming).
      Lighting, with the ZV-E1 you don't need powerful/expensive lights, if you needed a 300W COB on APS-C for optimal skin tones, the ZV-E1 achieves the same with a 60W light and a 90cm soft box... - heck, do an experiment, set your ZV-E1 to ISO 12,800 and lower all your lights to compensate, the dynamic range is tested to be the same as ISO640 by CINED and DXOmark, on paper it should be identical results (provided you have control of all light sources in the room and you'll need an ND filter as the ZV-E1 is crazy good in low light!).

    i have a 2tb m2 12.9" pro and i couldnt tell you a single reason for this LOL. No but seriously back when they announced the final cut and not being able to use the external drives to edit from i wanted 2tb and went all in. Turned out a few months later i never used it because its way too watered down, at least for now. 💀. I do love the screen (XDR) and speakers and everything but i mean its still not worth over 2k for sure i wish i got the base model of this pro if this one at all but yolo live and learn right. Other family members have base ipad, air, and an 11" pro and its like totally different tablets honestly im glad i have the massive one because i use this as sidecar for a 2nd display for my mac and i wouldnt want anything less than a perfectly matching screen

      Haha that's rad. What a MONSTER! I bet it's nice. Yeah, we all make those purchases sometimes... I mean I just bought the M3 Max with probably similar logic to what you used when buying that 2tb m2 Pro. Overkill? Probably, but for the 5-10% of the time when I actually need the horsepower it's sure nice to have. And that's so sick you can use it as a sidecar display. I haven't tried that yet. What stand do you use on the iPad for that?

    Over 40 with an iPad mini. Wanted something portable and the larger iPads are heavy

      Yeah the Mini's are pretty good for sure. People seem to really like them. They are close to folding phone size... heck some people have even mentioned they have data in them!

    I was thinking about getting ipad pro 11”, it seems to be faster and might have more potential in the future with the m2 chip

      Ohhh yeah, that'd be sweet! I haven't barely played around with the pros at all for the fear that I might have to have one once I do.

    Hello Is 10th gen best for gaming? What ipad is best for gaming? Thanks

    • @TheSAHDLife
      @TheSAHDLife  4 месяца назад +1

      Well the better chip you get the better it will be at gaming. It really depends what you can afford. The iPad Pro's with the M2 chips will be the best... then it goes down from there. I think it really depends what game you are wanting to play. I play Hearthstone on my iPad every day and my 10th gen iPad runs it incredibly well. I am still really impressed with it. You could probably RUclips the game you want and the iPad you are considering and seeing how it runs for yourself?

    I was going for the air 5 but unfortunately 256gb isn’t enough for me I’m getting the iPad Pro 11 with 512 gb instead planning on keeping it for 5 years. But I’m wondering whether to get refurbished m1 or just buy m2

    • @TheSAHDLife

      What are you mostly use it for? And how much is the savings? It's hard to really see a use for the extra power... The older chips are still so good already... Don't get me wrong it's nice to future proof but with the money that you save you can buy something else that makes life better than an extra 8% performance or battery increase

    where did you get your 10 from what was the deal

    • @TheSAHDLife
      @TheSAHDLife  7 месяцев назад +1

      I found the deal on good ol' Facebook Marketplace. And I got the iPad 10 with a 1st gen Apple pencil for $500 CAD or about $375 USD. It's working great!
      I have seen similar deals pop up but they go pretty quick so you have to keep your eyes peeled :) Honestly I've seen some great deals on 9th gen iPads too so depending on what you're looking for, that is still a good option.

    While you present very good content, you also talk around in circles throughout this video which, makes it hard to watch. My suggestion, just compare one at at time the pros and cons of each iPad model at your home staring with the basic iPad 8th generation (used as a proxy for the iPad 9th generation) then move up to the basic iPad 10th generation, and lastly the iPad Air. I use the basic iPad 9th generation fully loaded with 256GB and the data cell option, the Apple first generation pencil, and added a Logitech Combo Touch keyboard and case. Please buy just to do a review and then return back to Apple within the 2-week return time frame, a colorful 24-inch M-3 iMac and compare it to your MacBook (smile...smile).

      Sounds like a nice little setup you've got there. Right now I'm using the M3 Max and it's awesome though perhaps overkill. I don't really have a use for an iMac but appreciate the suggestion. I am considering getting an older M1 Max though to save a few bucks though.

    ease of use is always android , most practical and run paid apps for free ,, and ipad air is better deal cause it supports wirless pencil charge not like the stupid 10th gen ipad where you need to buy connector and speed of usb is same as lightning that more stupid. either buying 9th or going or air even refurbished is better deal

    • @TheSAHDLife
      @TheSAHDLife  9 месяцев назад +2

      Yeah I always forget that refurbished is an option. Good point! And yeah, the lack of charging with the pencil gen 1 is kinda silly. It's not that big a hassle but it is a small pain, I agree. I'm happy enough with the 10th gen for the price I paid. Not perfect but still good. If I wouldn't have gotten a good deal I'd probably do what you said.

      @19910602011 9 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah but u don't have to get apple pencil there is a lot of after market option which works just as good with more features, charges with type-c, has any colour u want and for a fraction of the price.
      The only reason "I" would have gotten the ipad air over the iipad 10 is the screen, all i do on mine 100% of the time is watch movies, youtube and browse at work. I don't need no m1 chip for that and slightly louder speakers when most times it's at 50% or less volume so u won't disturb people next to u and u only see the difference in screen when the ipad air is right next to the ipad 10. But everyone's use is different and i wasn't paying an extra $150 for that with less battery life and i got a magic keyboard clone in blue to match the ipad 10 & still didn't spend $500 for the "air," cost, all in i'm $350+$70 = $420.

      the 10th gen one you mean? I've never had an iPad before, it seems pretty good to me. Do you just mean bad compared any other one in particular?
