      You can be respectful without bending over and telling the guy to put signs up that may not be even legal on an easement. Where I am if you can float it you can go. Don’t go over and initiate a lengthy conversation during a hunt. You harassed yourself in this situation. The guy one he ran you off and you got nothing. That’s how most of these people operate. It was not even his land smh. Being direct and calm is fine but this was too much. No reason to argue either. Feel free to use the edit button a bit.

    I have ran into guys like that fishing the local river. We were in a backwater after carp for garden fertilizer and this dude on the bank starts screaming at us having a fit saying that water was private property... we entered via boat and in MN if it is boat accessible from a public landing it is public water(exception being man made canals and boat bays like on Leech Lake). He screamed, got a game warden, game warden came down, asked us how we got there, we pointed to the channel coming from the river and told him we motored in via boat off the main river. Game warden turned to the guy and said "one more word from you and its a ticket for harassing fishermen. It is public water if it can be accessed from the main river".
    Dude turned bright red and I wondered if we were going to have to boat him to the landing to an ambulance because he was having a stroke or heart attack. Game warden came in via boat and did the normal license, checked our catch(no limit on carp), asked what we were doing with so many and we told him, burying them in the garden under the tomatoes! And smoking a couple of the smaller ones! He asked if he could get a couple when we got back to the ramp and we said yup! He wanted them for the garden too and didn't have time to catch any because of doing enforcement on the water. He ran the Minnesota river from below Fort Ridgely down to 7 miles SE of New Ulm, 45 miles of river! Lot of area to cover in a small boat. I know, I boated it MANY times when younger! Duck hunted the back waters and main river. Deer hunted wildlife management areas that were hard to access via truck but easy via river... I am a certified river rat!

      They cannot trailer their boat off of the road into the water onto another persons property, regardless if they touch the bottom once they are in the boat. The trailer is traversing the property. A very stupid move on their end. I was in wildlife law enforcement as well and most jerks try and circumvent laws thinking they know more than the landowners.

    Glad it did not get verbal. We had trouble yesterday when decoying pigeons as they were turning away very quickly. So I brought the flapper in closer to the hide, and it worked a treat. I think that was the trouble with the spinner; the ducks were decoying to it, not the decoys. Next time try putting the decoys a little further and bring the spinner closer- might work?

    You can own a house RIGHT ON a river and a million acres around the river. As long as I access the water thru public means I can then navigate down the water to the stretch that runs thru your property and it’s completely legal as long as I don’t leave the vessel or step into your land.

    actually in SD, Duck hunting is NOT allowed on non meandered waters , closed or non closed!! I didn't believe this either until i read the water law closer. Once you are over closed or non closed non meandered waters , you can not recreate for duck hunting over private property. Not many know this but until the AG of SD make a clear ruling on this, its how it is. SD has totally ruined our public trust waters for the future. sad.

    • @Squidlybooga
      @Squidlybooga 8 месяцев назад

      This whole mess could be solved if the state would just quit taxing the landowners on land that has been under water for years now. What a lot of non resident hunters do not realize is that MANY of the large sloughs and lakes that now cover a lot of the SD landscape was once dry land and farmed 20-30 years ago. A lot of the current problems were started by a select few that used the fact they were still being taxed as leverage to keep hunters and fishermen off "their" water. I still cant believe they shut down Indian Springs in Clark to fishing during waterfowl season because the guys who own the land under the water are big duck and goose hunters and wanted the boat traffic off the lake. I love SD but in a way I'm kinda glad I dont live there anymore.

    • @commonsenseapproach101
      @commonsenseapproach101 8 месяцев назад

      @@Squidlybooga Our family lost over 1200 acres do to the floods of 93 and on. The issue is with the legislatures on the taxes, we proposed the same deal as north dakota on the water. SD allows taxes to be lower via the county, but the issue is that change in tax rate is ultimatly passed on as schools by law have to be funded. The real reason why this horrible water law was passed was for paid hunting and fishing and power. Now guides are offering money to get "access" to the water via fishing and hunting clubs, this gets them pass the rule in the law that bans payment for fishing on the water. Multiple cases against landowners were filed that hey pulled guns on people and threatened people back before the water law was passed. Yet nothing was done by the Attorney General, and that's why we have the mess still today. The State Supreme court clearly ruled that the water is held in a public trust for everyone, but a certain governors son in law got his way. Along with Monsanto, and a small handful of landowners, and big corps.

    So here is the perfect example of the PROBLEM with these Cranky Old Boom'rs. He's 78 yrs old and bitching about how all of his old hunting buddies are dying or to old to even get out of the house to hunt anymore. And instead of saying to these younger hunters that clearly don't have hundreds of acres of private land to hunt. "Hey boys, How about this, Ill take you huys out to some of my spots and we all can enjoy the hunting" Im sure these young guys would be more than happy to do all the grunt work. And he would be able to hunt and it would be safer for guy his age to not be alone in the swamps. Whats a few ducks at age 78 worth?? What about passing the experience of hunting with a older hunter that could teach the younger guys something new?? But nearly NO OF THESE GUYS WILL DO SUCH A THING. They would rather sit in there rocking chair and bitch about everything and everyone. Im 53, and have taken younger hunters with me predator hunting, Duck Hunting and fishing. And all over my Trap line for yrs. Just with the hope of getting the younger guy's and girls into the sport. But VERY FEW of the older guys 65 and up would even consider doing this. Not even with there own family members.

    Honestly this guy looks like he just want someone to talk to about hunting. He went about it in the wrong way but he seems bored or lonely.

    Idk, seems like they went on a private pond but had a loophole. Honestly if it was my private pond i would be mad about someone helping themselves to my place

    In your defence John, those ducks were doing about Mach II when you were trying to shoot them. Thanks for the video and sharing your hunt. I like them all, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Stay safe and have fun.
