I'd lived in Alaska for 16 years and had always look forward to halibut fishing every year.. loved every moment of it. My friends and families would go there camped out the weekend.. get wasted and catch lots of halibut!!
Enjoyed watching you guys catching halibut. I live down here in Southern California and we catch a smaller version of the Pacific Halibut which is called the California Halibut. The legal size limit here is 22” and let me tell you it is difficult to catch one this size depending upon where you fish. Coastal shore fishing normally produces smaller fish and the larger fish are usually caught on boats. I prefer surf and jetty fishing for halibut so it’s difficult to catch a legal. When we do, it’s very exciting to catch and cook these delicious fish!!! I absolutely love the taste of halibut, it’s one of my favorite!!! After watching you guys catching those Pacific Halibut from shore, I’m inspired to go to Alaska with my family to fish. Thanks for the great vid!!!
The low flying mud duck at the end was epic son ! i miss Alaska . i lived in Ninilchik and Anchor Point for the summer about 20 years ago . man what an adventure ! Thanks for sharing !
The cooking techniques you are using are spot on. Never cook halibut steaks, as they always turn out dry do to the flesh direction. Perfect cook! Thanks.
Wow thats awesome! never saw halibut from the shore. I;ve surf fished a long time, and was about to give you some distance casting/ rigging advice, but obviously you're hitting the zone...thank You!😁
So blessed to be in California...i get Spiny lobster...Perch...Cabezon...Tuna....Shark....Salmon....Trout.....Croaker....Barracuda....Sea Bass...etc...
I really enjoyed this video! I have friends who love Soldotna and told me about the fishing. Seeing your video, it makes me want to come there myself. You did a great job! It looks like a wonderful time and very good eating! I hope the fresh fish helps to offset the higher cost of groceries :)
I work so I can afford to go fishing in Minnesota. Don't forget how lucky you are to live in such an amazing state. But yeah I want to go to Alaska too
That's crazy. I've dock fished for halibut but never shore fished for it. I don't think I've ever even seen anyone do it. And those are nice fish. I guessed 40 for the first one and it came up at 36. You fillet them the same as I do. I think most west coasters do it that way.
My uncle took my twin brother and me drift fishing with his inboard/outboard motorized water skiing boat. We were in Ensenada and we must have caught 5 or 6 “barn door halibut” just like this. Huge!
I usually say something sarcastic or I make fun of Luke or something when I comment but this one is serious. Enjoy these times MinnDak family, you will remember this stuff for the rest of your life. I've never heard of people catching halibut from the shore, that's awesome. Just to lighten it up a bit, I will quote Jon to Sam, "You versus the guy she tells you not to worry about."
Taste so good... Are you guy's going to the ocean for deep-sea fishing... ? It would be great to included in your videos 📹... I'll looking forward to it...
Wow I've never seen halibut taken from shore before, but probably a Alaska only thing. Washington here and have fished it's shores coastal and in around Puget sound waters from the Straight to Gig harbor never seen halibut from shore, way too awesome. Another great video keep up the great video's.
Can you guys do a camping trip and record a film of the northern lights? Elk or bear hunting would be sick too. Just making a suggestion if you guys are not too busy this summer. You guys have been killing it though with great content. Keep it up MinnDak squad.
Yall gotta try my recipe. Cut into chunks. Panko them shallow fry. Make a sauce. Soy sauce , sugar, chili powder, smoked paprika. Two slices of smashed ginger. Cook it down to dissolve sugar. Add alittle corn starch to thicken. Salt halibut at the end lightly. And sauce it up. Then enjoy. Hope yall try it.
They brought in the record sized halibut for the company i worked for and it was so big it overflowed the tote they put them in. The average sized halibut from that boat was over 100 pounds. They long lined them. After they fill up the hold they will call up different plants to find out which one had the highest price. This load was from the Bering Straits and we were in Yakutat which in the south
And they didn't have cell phones back then so they had to call in by radio. If I called my parents in Wisconsin we used a CB radio and it was somehow linked into a phone. Two people couldn't talk at one time because you had to hold the button on the CB to talk.
A DJI Phantom 3 or 4 Pro is a good choice. Good lift and range for drone fishing and as they're a bit older now they're much cheaper than they used to be. Swellpro also make dedicated fishing drones that are waterproof and can self-right if they land in the water.
Good job brothers! Now Alaska is on my bucket list! I just bought my first mossberg shotty so I can duck hunt now. You are inspiring fellas, keep em coming! Sheeeeew!
Where were you fishing at? My family and I typically spend the summers in the Kenai area, we were even the park hosts at eagle rock boat launch last summer. We will be back up there next summer and I’d love to try some halibut fishing from the shore.
They're catching some fish just for the Halibut. You always need to have "fresh" ideas when you're making fishing videos. 🐟 😂👍💯 You always need to get people "Hooked" into watching your videos. 😂 Sorry I couldn't help myself with the jokes. 🤐
If Joe can learn to pendulum cast he'll get a lot more distance. It's good to see he can use a long rod properly though. So many people tuck the butt under their arm or between their legs and grab the reel seat instead of the fore-grip and lose incredible amounts of power and control over the fish (sorry Lindsay lol). Good fight Joe. If you want fresh Alaskan halibut or rockfish try EIS Alaska. A family seafood company from Kodiak that does all their own fishing for their sales. They also have a pretty good RUclips channel.
I agree, and a 14' graphite rod would add another 70 feet and a long cast spool another 50 feet, and a full spool another 20 feet, and braid another 60 feet
@@joedennehy386 12 ft rods 70 pound braid and a good cast, I wasn’t putting everything I had in me to cast I was taking it easy lol. Throw a pendulum cast with a pound of lead and watch the rod break
My wife and I were talking about where to go to retire but I think that I want to hang out with you guys in Alaska, even though we prefer to be in the warm beaches in the southern part of the US.
Awesome channel. I hope to get big like you someday. We’re down in southeast Alaska. If you ever want to collaborate on a video. A fish off, hit me up. Maybe get Captain Zac in Juneau involved too.
I've not done it from shore, but I've caught many. I have a joke for you and then a suggestion. All halibut are born males "they are hermafradites" when they get to about 3years of age or 50 to 70 lbs they turn to female. At that point they still call the halibut and not Katlin.😱😆. I fished on tv for about 10 years and I have an unbelievable idea for the you to get more and bigger ones from shore, drop me a line as I'm down in Ketchikan. GREAT JOB!
I'd lived in Alaska for 16 years and had always look forward to halibut fishing every year.. loved every moment of it. My friends and families would go there camped out the weekend.. get wasted and catch lots of halibut!!
The Alaskan Andrew flair
Lol that’s on baby!!
I came to comment this
SHEEEEEEWWWW
Flairs content doesn’t hold a candle to this
Hahahaha I was going to say the same thing!
Kudos to ALL you guys and gals doing this - never seen or even knew halibut could be caught from shore. These fish are major scores. Cheers!
It is fun!
Halibut fishing is on my bucket list but now I think I'd like to do it from shore.
Awesome video as usual
It’s fun!

From cali as well
Delicious! Ever try a thin layer of mayo before the seasonings? Adds great flavor a keeps the fish moist.

You guys need to share. That looks so good. I like fish fried. Great start to the Alaskan adventure.
Thank you!
Cut your halibut into 1" cubes batter in seasoned pancake batter and deep fry untill golden brown. It's Fire. Great content, have fun up there.
Sounds gas
That was cool fishing for halibut off the beach!
Yes it was!
Wow thats awesome! never saw halibut from the shore. I;ve surf fished a long time, and was about to give you some distance casting/ rigging advice, but obviously you're hitting the zone...thank You!😁

edward @ Hook2cook does a good instructional vid on drop shot fishing halibut from shore, works for the Cali halibut.
Chicken butt's we don't quarter them.
Caught an Atlantic one small about 4 lbs. Delicious

Thank you for the suggestions!
It doesn't get dark in AK this time of year so you don't see the aurora borealis
Try covering your filet in mayonnaise and old bay seasoning. Wrap it in foil and bake. It will change your life.
Bet
Say less!
solid fish - nice catch and cook! #slab city

Yesss love da Korean braddah eating it with lettuce
Yesssss
love the content! Any chance you could tell me what is the season and where are you all beach fishing? Thanks again in advance, Ken
Yummy
You need to invest in a swellpro drone and take those baits out as far as you want .
Nice video! Like the style of editing! Drop where that beach at tho? Lol
Take better care of the fish.
Bleed, gut and ice! There's no reason to put them in the cooler covered in dirt.
Buck 147 fillet knife!! Hook set 9"..... you're welcome!
Thanks!
Hell yeah I catch flounder from shore here in Oregon but not halibut that’s badass!! 🐟🪝
That’s lit!
Awesome video
Fly the bait out with a drone
Good idea!
A DJI Phantom 3 or 4 Pro is a good choice. Good lift and range for drone fishing and as they're a bit older now they're much cheaper than they used to be. Swellpro also make dedicated fishing drones that are waterproof and can self-right if they land in the water.
Halibut Halibut Halibut 🙌🙌 Does it taste like turbot or brill fish? Does anyone knows?
Taste like chicken
Lindsay is the best man, she's awesome!
She is lit
I just went on a charter in Homer and caught a huge halibut too. I’m definitely going to try from the shore.
Congrats! It’s good from shore in certain times!
Pro tip:
Next year haul up a deep freezer from the lower 48!
Fill it with Halibut Filets. Enjoy! ;-)
Nah it easier if my friends at custom seafoods takes care of us
Good job brothers! Now Alaska is on my bucket list! I just bought my first mossberg shotty so I can duck hunt now. You are inspiring fellas, keep em coming! Sheeeeew!

Gotta do it!
Should bring a kayak and paddle the bait out there
They're catching some fish just for the Halibut.
You always need to have "fresh" ideas when you're making fishing videos. 🐟 😂👍💯

Sorry I couldn't help myself with the jokes. 🤐
😂
Just found the channel and realized, this is a Therapy channel. Greetings from Switzerland.
❤️
I feel like it just needed some white rice soy sauce and lemon and it looked great
Yes sir!
That sounds good
Where in Soldotna did you catch the Halibut? I usually catch my halibut in Homer off the Spit. Great Channel, living the Dream!

AK is the best
Good jobs guys. What beach is this at?
nice content, should cook fish to about 145f for parasites, especially since you're catching bottom feeders.
Gotcha!
God that halibut looks sooooo delicioso
Yum halibut
Yum
Awesome channel. I hope to get big like you someday. We’re down in southeast Alaska. If you ever want to collaborate on a video. A fish off, hit me up. Maybe get Captain Zac in Juneau involved too.

Nice , but please dispatch the fish once it's on shore.
Where is the best place to buy those big casting rods? Love the video bro!
