I fished with Northwest Charters last year in Homer and they had a woman that filleted fish for them. I don't think it was the same girl, but she was a surgeon with the knife. I must have watched and talked to her for an hour. She said she grew up there and had been doing it since she was a kid. She said she probably would be lost trying to fillet a bass or crappie, but didn't miss a piece of meat on halibut or cod.
You can tell she has cleaned a lot of fish to have developed those skills. She has a good work ethic and would be a good person to be around, in my humble opinion.

I was a chef/short order cook for 30 years and you had to be good with a knife. I'd certainly agree with most comments here that her knife skills are very remarkable indeed. She can filet my fish any time.....I like catching and eating, not so much cleaning them. Nice haul of fresh Halibut must have been fun catching them.

She reminds me of the ancient tradition of a UK East Coast 'fish wife', or 'fish wifie" in the Scottish dialect. They had a fierce reputation in my mother's home town of Arbroath. Some women even followed the herring fleet as the fish migrated along the coast, going from town to town. Great skills. Great attitude. Very much appreciated.

Great knife skills! We often went fishing when I was growing up. My dad easily caught his limit of trout practically every time! I was the designated fish cleaner! Trout dipped in flour,salt and pepper and fried in butter 🧈 😋! I miss those times!

I lived in Anchorage Alaska for 24 years. I am now 70 years old, a little old lady, I'm just 5'1 tall. I loved to go out fishing from Kenai, sorry halibut and snapper. I caught a little halibut, it was 40 pounds. You just follow the lines on the skin, down to the spine and then slice along the bones. You don't have to clean out the guts, it all stays inside the stomach. You have to remember to cut out the cheeks, that is a real delicacy. My favorite recipe is halibut Olympia, like you could order at Simon and Seaforts. She's really good. You could see her carve out the cheeks around 7:35 or so. She's doing it the same way I did. At the Military Morale, Recreation and Welfare, I got the same kind of attention from the soldiers and airmen in the fish shed. Some guys think that they are the only ones who can do this. My husband got physically ill when he tried to clean a salmon from the Russian River. I always had to clean the fish!

I used to work in a fish shop. Sister did the halibut and I did the salmon. Fresh salmon smelted so good. Like fresh watermelon. 😊 Anyone can do this. Practice and a very sharp good knife. 😊

I went fishing in Alaska in 2014 for a week. We didn't even catch our limit and still brought back 5 large boxes of fillets of all kinds of different fish. The lodge flash froze them and vacuum sealed them for us. It cost us an extra $300 to have them added to our baggage! I still have a few fillets in my chest freezer!

Halibut cleaning is the easiest! The directions on where to cut are right on the fish, and don't forget the cheekmeat!!

Great knife skills! We often went fishing when I was growing up. My dad easily caught his limit of trout practically every time! I was the designated fish cleaner! Trout dipped in flour,salt and pepper and fried in butter 🧈 😋! I miss those times!

I lived in Anchorage Alaska for 24 years. I am now 70 years old, a little old lady, I'm just 5'1 tall. I loved to go out fishing from Kenai, sorry halibut and snapper. I caught a little halibut, it was 40 pounds. You just follow the lines on the skin, down to the spine and then slice along the bones. You don't have to clean out the guts, it all stays inside the stomach. You have to remember to cut out the cheeks, that is a real delicacy. My favorite recipe is halibut Olympia, like you could order at Simon and Seaforts. She's really good. You could see her carve out the cheeks around 7:35 or so. She's doing it the same way I did. At the Military Morale, Recreation and Welfare, I got the same kind of attention from the soldiers and airmen in the fish shed. Some guys think that they are the only ones who can do this. My husband got physically ill when he tried to clean a salmon from the Russian River. I always had to clean the fish!

I used to work in a fish shop. Sister did the halibut and I did the salmon. Fresh salmon smelted so good. Like fresh watermelon. 😊 Anyone can do this. Practice and a very sharp good knife. 😊

I went fishing in Alaska in 2014 for a week. We didn't even catch our limit and still brought back 5 large boxes of fillets of all kinds of different fish. The lodge flash froze them and vacuum sealed them for us. It cost us an extra $300 to have them added to our baggage!
I still have a few fillets in my chest freezer!
Hey 2 Old, I know it is such an amazing place to fish! Yall did good catching fish sounds like. They are big enough that it doesn't take to many fish to fill a bag of fillets. That flash freezing is the way to go. I'm not sure I would eat those fish that are still in the freezer, just saying.

No size limit, there is a 2 halibut per person/day, 4per person/possession ( for those that go out at 10p.m., and stay out past midnight, as it is still light out....)
Now she knows how to work a fillet knife 😎 and the way she was just grabbing throwing those up on the table to clean yeah you can tell heck of a lady and very experienced lol not her first rodeo with fish..
