Thank You To All The Fishermen Who make it possible for Us Americans To Enjoy All The Bounty The Seas Have. Thank You All For Your Contribution To Our Mother Earth By Feeding Her Children.
Need to be said that some fishermen/fisherwomen don't contribute ti but instead destroy/exploit Mother Earth. Dredging is controversial, for example, but not sure about this particular fishery. Ed: Apparently the Alaska dredging of scallops are deemed sustainable, good to know!
My boat is a 70 foot tender now, it was designed to be a shrimp dragger but I realized how destructive this is to the bottom as well as all the bycatch gets tossed so now I just tender salmon and stopped longline and shrimp fishing, but most fishermen don’t care about anything but their bank account
Good thing scallops like these are caught in sandy conditions so you’re basically racking sand… with hardly no by catch mainly sea cucumber and star fish
Wow! Accidentally found this channel! Excellent narration and music choice. I didn't expect CCR to play as the departure song, then a shot of "Provider" to name the boat!😮
I trawled for scallops in Queensland. Like you we discarded the gonads, despite them being extremely tasty. Also if you eat a freshly shucked live scallop you get a tingling sensation on your tongue much like licking a 2.5v battery.
All the little things most don’t see, you can’t store your product on a wood pallet, DEC inspectors told me this as a shrimper, it needs to be another non-porous material that can’t hold moisture and breed mold
weathervane "hockey puck" scallops are 3 inches in dia. ! i would love to try them. can't find them anywhere. must sell out fast. wonder how much they cost - i still would buy them.
I really love me some real scallops they are my favorites and soooo delicious 😋 and I bet every fisherman thinks about Forrest Gump when they are out there hahaha 😂
@ OK. Stay tuned. The “season” is April through September. The rest of the year is simply too brutal. There are freighters leaving for Asia and beyond every day from Long Beach and Seattle. Hunting on the internet should lead to the companies who staff these vessels. If you are young and have great grades contact your senators asking for an appointment to the Naval Academy or the Merchant Marine Academy. Both are great starts for a career at sea. Best wishes.
So that giant metal dredge weighs as much as one crab pot that Deadliest catch uses...I always new Discovery was lying about the weight of those crab pots
Go hug a tree. You have no idea if what they are doing is sustainable or not. I suppose you grow everything you eat in life out of your own garden as well.
The sad thing is that no one questions other countries where all thier food products waste plastic goes to ...into the sea or brought back to coast here even tissue paper and paper cups are used on indian boats they use steel n glass cups and glasses and have much less plastic ...seen vidoes so i can say but every second comments is where does d plastic go 😢funny how we just corner specific places ...nothing against this group of fishermen...my point is d one doing d work knows best
And the ocean floor pays for it. Dredges like these devastate the ocean floor. Unfortunately it’s either this, or hand dived scallops, which are only commercial viable in high end restaurants.
This would have been a good and informative video... but you crapped it up with that intrusive music track... now it's unwatchable. Worked as a deckhand offshore for 20 years and we never had a soundtrack out there. wind, waves and grinding work... that was it.
Good question, I noticed that too my first year scalloping. We don't use bait so there's nothing for seagulls to eat. Crab, cod, long line there's lots of seagulls.

This guy narrates everything!
I cant stand him...
@@waggsish He makes up a lot of stuff.
Thank you fishermen for your hard work and contribution to allow us to eat seafood when we want

@@jimnorthland2903 50 yrs experience with or as a fisherman BIG difference
@@jimnorthland2903 I was a dragger and that shit is absolutely terrible for the environment, sea floor, and any benthic organisms
Right

I'm not an American but I love the way you guys prepare yourself before going out for fishing. God Bless you guys out there. Be safe always
Thank you 👍
Y'ALL DO AWESOME WORK, THANK YOU FOR COMING TO WORK SHOWING US EVERYTHING YALL DO... IT'S A LEARNING EXPERIENCE FOR US, THANK YOU AGAIN...
Thanks for watching!

Glad you liked the music. We try to keep the vibes going out there.
Off Hokkaido, Japan they catch 12 tons of scallops in 4 hrs. Everyone gets home in time for lunch.
Let’s go brother Kalvin I see you. Amazing ❤👏👏👏👏👏💯
When was a younger man i spent many years fishing the north atlantic. If u can survive that u can survive anything.
I LOVE scallops !!😊 Thanks, guys !!
Thank you for your hard work
This was great
I really enjoyed the soundtrack. Lol. Eclectic.

You can also get that same sensation from licking pussy except it's called the clap
Why the tingling?
That’s because you are allergic.
@@gharrett2092 nope, have eaten thousands in my 75 years.
@@scherbertdan because the scallop is still alive and the muscle is trying to close the shell.
Youst Love this type of RUclips video 's! Many and Big thanks from Peter Eriksson Sweden Europe Thumbs up from me!😊😅😊
Wow, you guys are amazing. May God be with you
Not me. Niga music?? And killing sea floor. Nope 🙅♂️
lol scallops are a favorite shell fish , crabs , shrimp, and cod and halibut my favorite sea food … I can see why it’s expensive!
All the little things most don’t see, you can’t store your product on a wood pallet, DEC inspectors told me this as a shrimper, it needs to be another non-porous material that can’t hold moisture and breed mold
Does the DEC have pdfs on their website or other resources to learn?
@ I would think so, I’m just use to them coming to the boat and doing the inspection like coast guard dockside exam
Damn fine channel !
weathervane "hockey puck" scallops are 3 inches in dia. ! i would love to try them. can't find them anywhere. must sell out fast. wonder how much they cost - i still would buy them.
Cleaning the boat i wouldn't wanna do especially everyday lol
Normally cleaning after the trip. Not every day
Very proud of you guys I wish I had 2 week seasons I work up in Dutch harbor Alaska I'm a crabber
Thanks bro, what boat?
While on the dock, the crew stock up on food, cigarettes, and opiods for the long grind ahead
😂
I really love me some real scallops they are my favorites and soooo delicious 😋 and I bet every fisherman thinks about Forrest Gump when they are out there hahaha 😂
I was on that boat for 2 1/2 months during exon Valdes oil spill
Thats awesome
My neighbor owns several professional fishing boats in Alaska. Every season he is on his boat for months. We live in Phoenix

Wow!
Listening to the Ramones trawlin' for scallops. There's worse jobs.
Looking for a big boot Australia Leyland P76. Fit 44 gallon drum in it . Aussie Legend 🇦🇺
A shout out to my buddy Josh Adkins, who is the engineer of/on the Provider
you no the rubber tyres to prevent wearing down of the net and rings etc is just more micro plactic in the water
The net on the provider is made up of steel rings and chains they use cable to drag it and pull it up
We are always trying to find ways to be more sustainable.
This video rocks.
Salute to all the Fisherman who listens to RAMONES!!!!!
How much does each box of product weigh?
Great stuff
been there done that - REAL MEN
How much do these guys make? Two weeks out, probably on 12 hour shifts. Hard non-stop wet work in all kinds of weather.
Various every season, but weather normally nice until October.
Good video❤
Listening to bsb awesome 😂😂
Looks like a dangerous job. Such heavy equipment to climb over. À labour intensive job.
I wish I was young again and could do this without getting seasick 😢
Not bad in the summer, weather's pretty nice.
Cool. Servings look small though in the dining area.
You can eat as much as you want, there's always leftovers every day every meal.
@highlinerytc7939 that's good. I look forward to working on the ocean.
I was thinking that metal dredge must really tear up the sea floor.🙄 🦞🦀🐙🦚
4:12 no way that's 😳 only a thousand pounds.
13:13…I see you. Real one alert. Chubzies Smashburgers was here.

Real mad made movie
Good plan. Should be as hardy as probably an orange tree
15 k on groceries, for 2 weeks they must eat good , but there wasn't much for a galley
I guess you have never gone to the grocery store in alaska......
In MA net can't be wider than 3ft
Awesome voice
Hate it
😊
4:20 clear sky?...
So many fish as by catch. That's some good food going to waste when you don't even look at what you got trapped in the bag.
This is nothing compared to other fishery.
Keep the guys fed well , get a better work crew .

😂
they need roller tracks the way they do it now is way to slow!
Too

A super expensive product, a very exhausting job, I hope the men have a good salary. What I liked most about the video was that they feed them well.
Wow imagine working that hard and survive entirely on junk food
Right, all the fishing boats have lots of junk food, but we don't eat just junk food.
Some of the Alaska fishermen looks like South East Asian.
Filipino 🇵🇭
They're Micronesians.... I see my brothers from Chuuk Oneop.
We have Micronesians and Vietnamese very cool 😎 people! Love working with them, good workers too
Mashah Allah
Does not look like a job many would want.
enjoy it while it lasts.. the endless pursuit of that elusive $$$$ will see it wont be there forever. What a scummy shellfish way to fish
Work without hard head? OMG!
👍
How to get job there?
These guys couldn't hold a candle to the boys that fish out of New Hampshire
🤣🤣
Turn off the music😩😩😩
😂😂
No
Let it on
Look at all those dead fish.
that's what annoys me the by catch is unreal with dredging
Crabs eat the bycatch…dredge on men
Seems like it could be frozen whole and sold to pet food companies 🤔
And the ocean floor pays for it. Dredges like these devastate the ocean floor. Unfortunately it’s either this, or hand dived scallops, which are only commercial viable in high end restaurants.
I know there's always by catch in all types of commercial fishing unfortunately.
In other words, this by no means environmentally friendly
There's an easier life out there boys, shits pretty destructive just for some scallops 😮😊
Can’t watch it you say
the word scallop wrong
😂
dragging a metal series of chains destroys everything it touches.
imo
