Im currently taking a gap year due to mental health reasons, im looking for a part time job right now and I’m going to live in Australia for 2 months but I have decided I’m gonna go back since I’m in 3rd year, I’m nearly there and if I wanted it could be my last year if I just wanted a degree not an honours. regarding University - I dropped out for nearly two years once, no one believed I would go back. I did. And I ended up getting a degree. Obviously you can get all sorts of different well paid jobs without a degree. All that said, there is something very important about a college education. I think being forced to learn subjects you may not otherwise have been interested in definitely helps to make you a well rounded person. Furthermore the fact of thinking critically on multiple subjects can teach a lot just by itself and help you in a variety of ways throughout your future.
I love how calming your videos are. And I'm kinda jealous at the same time.There are so many things I'd do if I could take a gap year but I would feel so guilty. Not because of society but like for making my parents pay. In my head a gap year is one more year to wait before I'm financially independent. I'm working while studying and full-time in summer but it would never be enough to be completely independent, and surely not to travel so often. Never forget how lucky you are. Hey, I hope this doesn't come off as arrogant but maybe you can look into low pay traveling like volunteering projects(European solidarity corps) or work in exchange for accommodation and food(workaway, working etc). Ofc I don't know your situation and what you would like to do but if you want to there are possibilities of traveling without spending much money. You can also use them during your holidays. I hope this doenst seem like talking over you. If you have questions you can ask me. I'm on a Gap year right now doing different things. I live off my savings from my weekend job during school and money I saved during my childhood.
So many successful people dropped out of uni. I decided not to go in the end and I have a very successful career in central London. You can get wherever you want however you want. But that's all up to you and no one else's opinion. Like you said, it's not the only route for education. I'm really interested in languages now at nearly 32, but at 18 I didn't even know who I was! I would've done journalism at uni which would have been a waste. So I'm super pleased I didn't go. You do you 😊 Edit: Very excited that there might be a move for you! Look forward to the vlogs if so!
People are still so traditional when it comes to uni! It’s slowly changing, but you put it so well when comparing their reaction to projection. These days apprenticeships are becoming much more popular, and most jobs put experience over a degree. Plus, no debt! Uni isn’t the only option for everyone and it’s nice to see opinions starting to change🙌🏾 Plus loved this q&a! Hi, I'm actually from Portugal. I just want to say you are a very lucky person, because the majority of people don't have the resources to choose to drop or travel or living in another country. Here we go to university to have a better life because we want to have the power of choice on supermarkets, housing, shopping.. Is not for 'education', is for having a comfortable life like yours. This year I decided I want to change courses, physics to mathematics, and I feel so lucky because looking to my friends they can't do it, even they don't like the course, because of the money. In mean time I tried to get a part time job in a restaurant and it was so exausting and hard and boring. I quit after 4 days because my body hurted so much (I'm a small girl).. I became so grateful and aware of what that people do, because that type of job is actually harder that being a college student, and in the future the life you get is not so good. Now I'm totally focus on university and doing some UCs so I can change courses. I think you are intelligent and very capable of doing a degree. From my perspective you are always seeking for a solution and trying to solve problems. I follow you because I see myself in you, plenty of energy but the difficulty to focus in one path. When we have plenty of energy we need to do something intelectual hard and simulating in order to be happy other wise we are always seeking for 'another thing'.. Please consider this. In the end I just want that you be happy and find the path that really suits you..
I'm loving your honesty, I was super honest with myself and went over my current life regret would be not having my degree before I decide to have children. I've felt a little like a plastic bag in the wind, I've sat down and gone over what I can do with my weeks leading up to this upcoming summer. I want to finish my degree but on my own terms. You don't need uni if you dont want to. You can learn anything online. You're already in a good position already, 267k subs, fluent in various languages.
I'm doing a lang degree and I honestly overthink everything that I don't even know If i truly enjoy it or not. It was mainly a choice I made bc I had no idea what I wanna do after hs, I'm slowly starting to get some clarity tho. While it's nice and you learn many things, it feels somehow limiting for me who is also interested in other languages/things outside of uni.

Hi Anna! I don't know if you will read this comment but you said you wanted to move to Lisbon or Barcelona, I've lived in Lisbon for half a year now and I just wanted to say I really recommend it. There are many vegetarian restaurants, it's one of the safest country's in the world and people are extremely nice. The city is also really cute (You can also practice your Portuguese because I know you're still a beginner) I support you in wherever you decide to move but I just wanted to mention that. I'm also taking a gap year because of my very debilitating mental state after having covid. Now I'm realising how efficient it would be if i had taken gap year before getting into uni. Where i live society is very conventional and judgemental so i felt rushed and pressured to get into uni right after finishing school. Hope my gap year will end up being very successful and productive. I really wish that all the money that will go into my therapy sessions won't go to waste. I am an software engineer. I finished my major just because I thought it was a must to get a job (they never asked for it, I finished but I don’t have any official-official paper certificate - I have not done the process for it). Everything I know I learned by myself and books. Coding, project management, data bases.. also, since it is a global type of job, languages helped me a ton. It has not been a show stopper for me in any form. So follow your gut/heart 🤗

Just on alternative paths to employment, my current company are allowing people to do degree apprenticeships and other firms are taken on purely apprenticeship! Lots of options for you going forward. Don't listen to others projecting!
I'm not sure if anyone from Ireland is gonna see this, but if you are Irish and have lived in Ireland for the last 4 years before university, you are eligible for UK Home fees. I think they have some sort of agreement between Ireland and the UK. I also know a few people (including myself) who will be paying home fees (9250)

I got my bachelor degree on natural sciences in 2018. cuz of lucking of job opportunity at that time ,I applied for a master degree (I couldn't remember what's it about even though) and of corse I failed at the end of the year. "ok,this is not what I expected", I said. I started my career as a teacher in 2019 at a secondary school,after one year, only one year I quit it for ever I 've been a worker for 3 years now , I've tried different sector and I got a lot of lessons , the precious one was I'm not gonna be a worker for my whole life, I assumed. deep dive into myself to find my true color to define my unique purpose in which I born for ,it's my priority now ,as I'm into books , I stumbled on a dazzling book called "the one thing " the surprisingly simple truth behind extraordinary results by Garry Keller with Jay Papasan. I highly recommend this gold piece for you guys , and just remember you're not late , no gain without pain .

lol I love physics and math so much but I'm planning to go into medical, so I understand why u don't want a linguistic degree and a career. I got my bachelor degree on natural sciences in 2018.
cuz of lucking of job opportunity at that time ,I applied for a master degree (I couldn't remember what's it about even though) and of corse I failed at the end of the year.
"ok,this is not what I expected", I said.
I started my career as a teacher in 2019 at a secondary school,after one year, only one year I quit it for ever
I 've been a worker for 3 years now , I've tried different sector and I got a lot of lessons , the precious one was I'm not gonna be a worker for my whole life, I assumed.
deep dive into myself to find my true color to define my unique purpose in which I born for ,it's my priority now ,as I'm into books , I stumbled on a dazzling book called "the one thing " the surprisingly simple truth behind extraordinary results by Garry Keller with Jay Papasan.

lol I love physics and math so much but I'm planning to go into medical, so I understand why u don't want a linguistic degree and a career. I really don't see myself as a physicist but yes I do see myself passionately reading about whatever they do and learning new things because I just love science 😅
