I really love how you kept the part of how vulnerable and frustrated you felt before your exams. It truly shows that no one is perfect. And with that said I would like to share my own experience. I'm a Swede, and found love in a frenchman. So I moved down to the French country side where no-one speaks even a word of English. And now 3 years later I am fluent and I got 2 jobs. I didn't go to school or anything but I learned because I had no other choice. I have a friend that is Spanish and a workcolluege that is Turkish that both struggle with talking French and they always asks me how it was possible for me to become fluent so fast because they feel so awkward and insecure when they try to speak. My biggest advice is to accept the fact that you not gonna speak perfectly when you do. You are gonna use the wrong words, the wrong order of words and the wrong pronunciations ALL.THE.TIME. And that is okay, most importantly is too accept it and try to do better next time. People can hear on my accent that I am not French so they already understand if I say something the wrong way, and even if I don't have say something 100% correctly, who cares if they understood what I tried to say? That's the most important thing, if people understood what you wanted to say, then that is all that matters. The details comes later 😊

Thank you for your vulnerability. I cried when you got your results in! I’m inspired by your story of overcoming the situation, learning under pressure and being open and honest about it!
This is so fun to watch when you’re Dutch! Je hebt het heel goed gedaan! Gefeliciteerd! Funny to see what a perfectionist you are. Don’t worry, it’s better to make mistakes then don’t learn anything at all!! 😘
There is a difference between passing a test, and sounding like a native person. And she actually often sounded like a dutch person. So thats quite impressive.
If she had to prepare this much for a A2 level test, she's obviously nowhere near speaking like a native person. If you are refering merely to the sounds produced, that really depends more on how closely related your language is to the language you're learning and/or your natural talent for mimicking sounds and accents. I personally don't see anything impressive about that, I find actually mastering a language much more impressive, even if it doesn't end up sounding perfect. That's just my opinion tho
I am 13. I stay in Oman (a Middle Eastern country ). I need to study Arabic. And I have exams in school. It is so tough for me coming from a family in which no one speaks Arabic. Not even friends. I used to have really bad mental breakdowns and used to think only I used to have it. But you including the breakdown part really increased my self-esteem. I have my Arabic Exam in 20 days. I am sure I will do great. Thank you, Sadia! Love Gouri

The “it makes me… birthday” 😭😂 same. I’m learning a language and you’ve inspired me to keep going because I’m so scared of speaking with people! It’s so stressful not being able to express myself in the language and I don’t want to sound dumb but trying is so much better ❤️
YES!!!! The exchange is what matters!! I've been learning Chinese for a loooong time (10yrs) and when I let go of how I felt and just focused on being understood/understanding with what I know I was able to communicate with anyone. It would take time but people appreciate the effort and the care it shows when you try to communicate in their language. It opened my world and I can't wait to get back to my second home! This video is so real with those emotions and the highs and lows of language learning...took me back for sure! (Who are we kidding...I'm still there!) I feel like it's a humbling experience that can only add to your life. So amazing the support you had! It makes ALL the difference! Keep up the amazing work!

What a nice interesting video! When Nathaniel spoke about the importance of speaking and practising, I felt like he hit the nail! Having people around you to whom you can talk to in the language that you are learning is great, I'm so happy for you! I've started learning french but I'm afraid I have no one to talk to yet haha
Watch French films on RUclips and children’s songs with the words and when we can travel again visit France & stay with a family who speak no English! Bon courage! 🎉
If you join italki.com there are people who will talk to you in the language you want to study. There’s also another app that’s free I forgot where it’s called but it’s similar idea to tinder where you reach out to people who want to learn your language while you learn theirs while being friends.
This video... I teared up. So happy for your accomplishment! It was extremely relatable for me (the frustration and the perfectionist mindset) and really inspiring to learn again french and italian (I did study them a couple of years, but I was anxious to say a word, because of the constant thought of failing, each conversation felt like an exam). Thank you for being open and vulnerable. I am proud of you, really.
I'm so happy for you Sadia! I almost got teary it's somehow reminding me of my early days when I first moved to Canada. I truly believe learning a new language makes a person more empathetic because then you understand to look pass the language barrier when you meet someone with a different mother tongue who struggles to get a message across! Lots of love from Toronto ❤️
I’m feeling this way as well when it comes to Arabic. I feel this is my sign to keep going. Thank you for being so raw and open about your whole process, it’s inspiring and congrats on passing everything.
That hit me so hard when she started crying. It happens to me a lot too. I get so frustrated learning new languages and yet I continue. Nathaniel is my legit favorite RUclipsr. So glad to see him here.
I love how authentic you are in all of your videos, but this one especially! Showing the struggle and all those embarrassing, frustrating moments of learning a language was really ‘real’ - very different from the romanticized language learning videos we are used to seeing. Thank you for this!
Dutch is quite a diffy language but I love it. I love the phonetics, the accent etc. For five to six years my Dutch friend teaches me the basics and I , teach him Greek, another difficult language. We're slowly getting there after many years considering we are in our 60's lol. Good luck Samia, goedenavong xx
26 years ago when I studied in Germany, most of our German level was that’s of a four year old. Super basic but yet all of us decided to speak in German to eachother ( with the exception of Americans, a guy from Wales and the British that hang out together and only spoke English). All of us with a great mention to our awesome Irish friends, we spoke in German. A version of miming and German: one guy from Malta, one guy from Iceland, a girl from Bulgaria, three Greeks, bunch of Italianus, bunch of Spaniards, one Portuguese, bunch of Hungarians, etc. I cannot imagine living in a country and not learning the culture and language of that country! Glad you are learning Dutch which is from the same root as English so should not be so difficult.
American here, took German in college, but way better in Spanish (I live in the Texas where Spanish is prevelant) I would've spoke German with you! Actually looking forward to getting better in German.
@@cmd406 Gestured with German words you mean? But yes! I would have welcomed having an American friend! Easy German is an awesome RUclips channel! Highly recommend!
An idea for submerging yourself in language: put on the radio (preferably the talk/news radio station) and try to folow. This really helps, because it is so fast. It helped me tremendously in France, when learning to speak (and listen to) french. Good luck, and keep up the work you've already done!
I personally hate listening to the Icelandic radio talk shows. I can hold a conversation and understand pretty much in Icelandic but when it comes to the radio.... I'm lost and frustrated 😁
I’m sat here crying because I feel so proud of you 😂❤️ Also I think this hits home pretty hard because I have a boyfriend that moved from England to live with me in Sweden and he is trying so hard to learn Swedish and it’s beautiful to see someone trying to embrace your culture as their own, as I’m sure Robin feels about you too! Thank you for sharing this video and for showing your vounarability and struggle, it only makes you human! ❤️
hey I am a English language teacher and I encounter this with my students every day. They want to be and sound perfect and that is not what learning a language is about. I watched a great Ted Talk the other day and I use it to help my students: "English is not an art to be mastered, it is a tool to get a result and it is your tool". This can be applied for learning any language. Don't focus on getting everything right, focus on what you need to achieve and get done. You did awesome and you need to be proud of yourself :)
This was a really provocative account of an experience that many of us have lived through in different ways. Really inspiring story facing a significant climb that ended up being an important step. I hope this experience brought you and Robin closer and that you will follow this up with another video a few months out that reflects on how things changed for the two of you because of your experience. Keep going, Sadia. My wife and I are continually inspired by your journey.
That is so amazing! I loved how you shared your story. Thank you. Learning a new language can be so mind boggling. I'm in my 7th month of learning Korean and I don't think I could have past one of those tests. Awesome job!! Love your channel and wish you both all the best.
Really appreciated your vulnerability! I'm currently in the same journey of learning Dutch and this raw and real peek into your journey was really inspiring and gave me a boost of motivation, Thank you!
Yay! You did it. I love learning new languages. I just started learning Dutch in Duolingo for the first time like an hour earlier. And now I got the notification of this video. What a coincidence! It's cool to see Nathaniel in your video too. I've watched the videos of him having conversations with his grandmother multiple times and I'm always so impressed.
I have learned Dutch through music and talking to kids. I even read children’s books at the start. I took the nt2 II exam with just learning it by myself. Yes, immerse yourself and don’t be afraid to speak it in public because you will learn a lot more. Gefeliciteerd!
Sending so much love to you, Sadia! I think we all appreciated the vulnerability demonstrated in this video! Thank you for sharing this journey with us.
I’m also learning Dutch living in Amsterdam, I could totally relate to what you were going through- yes it makes me feel stupid not to be able to express what I want and it’s been a very slow process for me to learn this language..but people here are so generous, patient and understanding-With this video, you kicked my bud! Really great you went for it. Thank you for sharing your courage:-)
As a native Belgian that speaks Dutch (Flemish), I must say that your speaking abilities are AMAZING! I went through the same stages learning British as I moved to Liverpool for an exchange program. I struggled a LOT with the language in the first days, but once I only spoke English during the day, my language proficiency went uphill! As a Dutch and English language teacher, I loved the fact that you made this kind of video. It really shows the importance of a language. Have a lot of fun with learning Dutch, it's a very fun language!
What a neat story from a fellow Canadian! Thank you for sharing your journey. I loved hearing Dutch speak and I think there is so much value in learning new languages.
We only grow when we get out of our comfort zone, there is where the magic happens! Congratulation Sadia! Robin, you are so supportive and you have a great family :)
I feel for you Sadia. We Canadians do not learn how to speak a second language in a useful way. Too much vocab but never really learning how to build complex sentences. It also makes it more challenging if your love language between your partner is in English. But you're smart and extremely capable. I can't wait to hear you speak more Dutch on the channel :)
Oh my goodness, Sadia crying about feeling stupid to her partner sums up the first few months of my time moving to France with my partner 😂 Great video- learning a language is one of the most humbling and worthwhile experiences I have had in my life ❤️

Sadia you have never been more relatable! Thanks for allowing us to see you so vulnerable and unsure of yourself. Congratulations on your successful journey!
I’m learning Turkish and so many things you went through are parallel experiences that I seem to be experiencing too. It was a wonderful thing to see you go through the process and do so with such a successful bang ♥️
Gefeliciteerd met het behalen van jou examens! Knew you would make it! And indeed Nathaniels suggestion by having a non English day really helps your brain to think in dutch . I have the same when taking English whole day at work and then coming home I have to switch an imaginary button in my brain to speak dutch again.
I love this video so much! It’s so honest and vulnerable. I’m Dutch myself and the reason I speak English fluently is because I followed bilingual education, meaning I had been speaking English all day through since I was 13, but with close to zero English experience before that. I remember how frustrating that was, how many times I came home crying because I felt like I had spend a day at school learning nothing because I could not understand the language. I remember being at an English website and chatting with people and being mocked at because my grammar wasn’t good enough (I was 14 and Dutch). It felt so demotivating. But now I speak English fluently and even though it’s a little rusty now, grammar wise I hardly make any mistakes (a lot of natives do worse than me). Still it’s not my first language and I make mistakes, you will always hear my Dutch accent, but I can see how much I’ve grown. I think it’s really cool what you’ve been doing and i have a lot of respect for you. Learning Dutch is a lot harder than learning a mainstream language like English. You’re doing great and I hope you keep on practicing to become even better!
Seriously I am very astonished that you could push it so far! It takes years! And I am so much more motivated right now for my upcoming tests. Great video, great help! Thanks Sadia!
My brother-in-law is Colombian and he and my brother live in my homecountry of Belgium. His Dutch improved the most when he spent more time with my family, because my dad does not speak English and my mom isn't great at it either. We make a concious effort to speak to him in Dutch first, then repeat in English when he doesn't understand. Ask your friends and Robin's family to do the same! I also really like the idea of a "no-English day". Stick with it, and you'll be happy with the results!
Thank you for sharing your vulnerable moments when studying, I just wanted to hug you through the screen to tell you, je doet het geweldig! Gefeliciteerd met het behalen van je inburgeringsexamens!!
THANK you for being so vulnerable. I have always been so embarrassed to learn something in FRONT of others. I love to HAVE learned, but tend to struggle during the learning process. I can never comprehend how you can move somewhere and not learn the language as an immigrant myself. The difference is that when you're not a "western expat' but just a poor immigrant you don't usually get a choice. It's nice seeing someone showing the actual hardships of what actually living abroad is.
@@energyhealing11 yeah but it sounds like you are shaming refugees as if they even have a good education foundation prior to coming. Which enables them to learn the language.

I had tears in my eyes watching your beautiful journey of learning Dutch. Thanks for sharing the struggle and the happy moments. It gave me a bit of hope for learning Danish. :) And congrats on rocking those exams.
Haha indeed I am and it's not a good thing 😅 and so true, thanks Jaap!
When you're ready, you should try to make an entire PUL video in Dutch. It would be so interesting. Or even a grocery haul video.

How did it go?
@@tejaswinipolepeddi337 it went very well thank you
Loved they way you have showed the whole process. Being able to record through those raw emotional movements must have been challenging. Congrats on passing the test! Please make more videos, love watching them. :)
The “it makes me… birthday” 😭😂 same. I’m learning a language and you’ve inspired me to keep going because I’m so scared of speaking with people! It’s so stressful not being able to express myself in the language and I don’t want to sound dumb but trying is so much better ❤️
Agree “I love learning I don’t like being quizzed on what I’ve learned”
Omg, so true... I hate tests! 😕
I'm here to support you all the way through, just wanna say you're SO inspirational 😭❤️

I love this type of real week in the life style vlog from your channel!!!!
I just love how supportive your man is.

Started learning French last week...looking for people can talk with
If you join italki.com there are people who will talk to you in the language you want to study. There’s also another app that’s free I forgot where it’s called but it’s similar idea to tinder where you reach out to people who want to learn your language while you learn theirs while being friends.
@@MCaraPlays it’s HelloTalk
OMG! Arabic is so difficult! What is your mother tong?
You should learn Egyptian arabic dialect
That hit me so hard when she started crying. It happens to me a lot too. I get so frustrated learning new languages and yet I continue. Nathaniel is my legit favorite RUclipsr. So glad to see him here.
I love how authentic you are in all of your videos, but this one especially! Showing the struggle and all those embarrassing, frustrating moments of learning a language was really ‘real’ - very different from the romanticized language learning videos we are used to seeing. Thank you for this!
The eye roll after molar is such a mood
It's a mood.. To be fair, 'kies' is also just the verb in 'I choose' > 'ik kies', which would have made a lot more sense in that list
Oof I started tearing up when Robin’s parents applauded.
@@klimtkahlo most likely! Yes! Lol
Makes sense, Americans and the Brits hate Germans and German language.
unsurprising that the native english speakers didnt even try
Congrats! As a foreigner in tThe Netherlands.... Learning Dutch is a thing!
hey I am a English language teacher and I encounter this with my students every day.
If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader
That is so amazing! I loved how you shared your story. Thank you. Learning a new language can be so mind boggling. I'm in my 7th month of learning Korean and I don't think I could have past one of those tests. Awesome job!! Love your channel and wish you both all the best.
That’s amazing! Never easy to learn a language, especially under that tight of a deadline!!! Félicitations 🥳
Really appreciated your vulnerability! I'm currently in the same journey of learning Dutch and this raw and real peek into your journey was really inspiring and gave me a boost of motivation,
Thank you!
Yay!
The movement when Sadia cry 🥺🥺 !! I also feels like crying 😭😭😭
✌
I LOVE these kind of videos, I’m sooo up for this
What a neat story from a fellow Canadian!
Oh my goodness, Sadia crying about feeling stupid to her partner sums up the first few months of my time moving to France with my partner 😂
Great video- learning a language is one of the most humbling and worthwhile experiences I have had in my life ❤️
I live in The Netherlands now, and I really hope one day randomly running into Sadya. haha, you are wonderful. and your video has just inspired me to do the impossible
This video was so stunning on all levels ❤️ Thanks for the vulnerability, truth and humour, and congratulations!!
It makes me birthday is the cutest part😂
💗💗💗
Sadia always seems to have it all together and perfect. I couldn't even ever imagine her crying!
THANK you for being so vulnerable. I have always been so embarrassed to learn something in FRONT of others. I love to HAVE learned, but tend to struggle during the learning process. I thought maybe for everyone else it's easier. You had a hard time but pushed through it and I really admire you for not just doing it, but sharing it with your viewers. Thank you!
When I learned Portuguese and immersed myself in Brazilian culture, my relationships with my Brazilian friends became so much deeper!
I’m trying to learn Italian right now, because I’m gonna study there in only a few months, your video gave me so much motivation! Please keep talking about your learning process!
Congratulations on passing your exams!
I'm learning italian too! I'll only be there fpr the holidays though this time, but I really hope I can study there someday❤️
That was amazing! I'm from Brazil, and I'm learning english. It's really hard, I feel your struggle. One thing that can be really helpfull it is to make videos in the language that you are learning. Like: make a video recipes in ducth! (subtitles please! lol).
Picking up Dutch may not be as easy as picking up limes, but as a dutchie myself I really think you did a great job, gefeliciteerd!
Lol underrated comment
5 years without speaking Dutch when living there is like what most people judge in all the refugees coming to Germany often not learning German
yeah but the difference is she isn't a refugee..
I can never comprehend how you can move somewhere and not learn the language as an immigrant myself. The difference is that when you're not a "western expat' but just a poor immigrant you don't usually get a choice. It's nice seeing someone showing the actual hardships of what actually living abroad is.
@@TetiH it’s always difficult to learn a new language, yet part of the process when living abroad
@@energyhealing11 yeah but it sounds like you are shaming refugees as if they even have a good education foundation prior to coming. Which enables them to learn the language.
@Energy&Healing I agree with you. I'm American and speak English but we were forced to learn Spanish in school despite English being our native language. If we can learn everybody else's languages, they can at least learn ours and it's free to learn here.
Congratulations on your exams! I'm very proud of you! I'm portuguese living in Slovenia with my Slovenian husband and children, and I know how hard it can be to learn the language, 'cause especially when you can get along with speaking english you don't really make it a priority to learn the other language. Your story is a great inspiration for success, thanks for sharing!
I know learning a language isn't easy 1years back I couldn't even speak English language but now I speak fluently with accent now I communicate with American, British, all over the world this language change my life ❤️❤️
what is your native language?
Assamese
Yay🤙🏻
Can you tell me how you've learnt with "American accent"
Any tips??@failures union of comedy kings
@@anita6499 I had a lot of conversation with American teachers
Hey Sadia! I’m Dutch myself and it’s so funny when you speak Dutch, you sound very friendly and kind hahaha
I speak Dutch and English fluently and I’ve been learning French for about 5 years and i totally get you because i still find it so uncomfortable to talk in French. Maar ja, ik wens je veel succes in de toekomst en ik hoop dat je ooit helemaal vloeiend Nederlands kan spreken!
Het lijkt wel een beetje Vlaams vind je niet? Inderdaad echt heel mooi en lief
So proud of you! You made incredible progress in these few days and even without prior experience learning a language. I'm in Paris right now for three days (I'm dutch myself) and you're motivating me to keep practicing french. I've already challenged myself to speak French as much as possible but it's been giving me a lot of anxiety and some awkward moments, but I think in the end nobody cares and everybody is happy you're learning their language. Also, best collab ever!!
Love the realness of this video and the depth of Robin's support and encouragement,
So happy to see two favorite bloggers here TT wholesome and beautiful!! love!
Thank you for sharing also the downsides if this journey. I've recently reached level C1 of German after two years and a half of courses. It was a very intense journey
Wow C1! That's incredible! For these exams luckily we only needed to the end of A2, so nothing too complex. You should be proud, from everything I've heard German is incredibly complex 🤓
I'm a few minutes in, but OMG THE EDITING is already insanely perfect.
I’m learning Italian and can’t wait for the next language I learn!
Anch’io. Well, i learned in high school and college but then took a long break and have been getting back into it
I never liked German group language, Dutch sounds cold weird language for the mst of the people and also the nation. Accept Robin.
@@Wwetitanfan27 oh that’s so good! I learn French in high school but don’t remember anything haha. Maybe I will start studying it as well, it would be my fifth language 🤷♀️
When you cried about feeling stupid when speaking in a new language, I really felt it. Being a perfectionist myself, that is the most difficult barrier that I'm struggling to cross. Keep going! Much love ❤
