ET wasn't that bad, people just didn't read the manual. Yes there was some ET games in the landfill, but ET didn't make up the majority of the games in said landfill, there was so many more games other than ET, and quite a few of those games was pretty good games. There are many many Atari 2600 games that are far far worse than ET. The US game crash was mainly due to the unlicensed 3rd party devs flooding the market with low effort clones, games that had absolutely no game flow or direction (meaning even if you read the manual it just didn't make sense), Sears and Tele-Games didn't help with this by renaming already existing games where people thought it was a new game but found out that it's a game they already had, "games" that had absolutely no game to them, and then the flood of game consoles that was trying to grab a piece of the pie that Atari was having. That is what caused the game crash. Not ET or Pac-Man, those two games hurt Atari more than they influenced the game crash. I can easily name a game far worse than ET, Custer's Revenge, and all the other adult themed games on the 2600, many of which was just low effort clones of more well known games, and a few of them was clones of each other, or just renamed.
The adult games are a stretch as they had almost no marketing and were not displayed at stores. Blaming the games crash on ET is like blaming the president for anything. It’s not incorrect, just a gross oversimplification. The lack of any real copyright was by in large the contributing factor in destroying the games market, it ruined the incentive for devs and studios when I could copy your code and resell it under a different cartridge name. This new generation of nintendo haters fails to understand that although nintendo’s copyright policy is annoying and tyrannical now, it was their strict enforcement of copyright that helped the NES become as successful as it was and subsequently reviving the games market. The issue with ET was that it DID have a marketing budget. The games development was pushed to meet a holiday release deadline without Devs having access to any of the finished movie. The Devs weren’t allowed to see the movie as it had not been finished at the time, the devs said “this will take a year or two to finish once we see the source material” but the studio said “You can’t see the source material, and you have 6 months to finish the game so it can be out by Christmas near the films release.” So like the development cycle was completely unrealistic and coupled with how the game and movie were pushed in advertising, ALOT of people were extremely disappointed. ET did not kill the atari or games industry, it was just the 13th senate member to take a stab at killing it. ET tu Brute?
Also that game is garbage, even when you know how to play it the controls are jenk by atari standards, the agent spawns too quick, moves too fast, the pit’s hitbox is confusing and sometimes you get stuck leaving the pit. I used to have a 4/20 tradition of streaming ET captured and scaled up from analogue hardware. Ive played that game enough to confirm it is in fact hot garbage and for you to sit here and act like it’s not is just you being contrarian for the sake of special snowflake status.
I own this game. I looked up a tutorial and it looked fun to me but then I played it and it was so infuriating. You keep on falling in the caves and you can’t get anywhere.
In my opinion the games not that bad it was just In its and was extremely rushed many other atari games I've played I thought was worse I think it was because of how beloved et was and is many just hated that it wasn't as good as many thought they probably had the highest expectations but the atari just couldn't deliver why don't you try a phoenix ps2 game like animal soccer or snow White and the seven clever boys hardware just makes et seem bad I actually rather play et than a couple modern games like cyberpunk or rainbow six 2 games I despise
There was another game that's even worse than ET on the Atari 2600 named Jedi Arena; The game was based on what could be one of the most forgettable scenes within the franchise with controls that never work, sound effects that were ear-bleeding, bad graphics especially in it's time and ESPECIALLY now and terrible AI programming.
@@zlatanbogdanovic6874 he's not wrong, most people just didn't read the manual to learn on what you need to to and understand the game, people was treating it like the many simple games on the 2600and failing and blaming the game when it was their own failure.
Genshin Impact isn't all that bad. I mean ok everyone has their own opinion but it is way better than ET. Saying ET is better than Genshin Impact is like saying a steaming pile of goat and horse shit is better than a chocolate bar. Mihajlo Bogdanović
Cap, E.T. is WAY more unplayable; There is no clear objective inside the game nor a guide, the graphics were not spectacular EVEN within it's era, plus Fortnite actually HAS a decent storyline.
