PS has come along way with assisting us with masking intricate fur/hair details over the last couple of years! Love it! Jess, do you use the 'refine hair' button as well? It can give some really great results too.

    Love this tutorial! I'm sure this is a beginner question, but why don't I have the crosshair when I use the refine edge brush tool? I just have a regular arrow -- I can see the brush effect as I use the tool, but it's harder to keep the brush centered on the edge of the object without the crosshair thingie. I'm on PS Beta, if that makes a difference. (EDIT: changing the cursor preferences to Precise didn't fix this)

I have a question, when I am using the Refine Brush and its with a + to add, instead of adding the hair etc, it removes it, I also when I click on the Refine hair instead of adding it removes the hair? Thank you for the video. I feel like I can now do fur! unfortunately after making the mask nothing else would work. I tried a curves layer and a gradient map but it didn't do anything to the picture. I tried other pictures without mask, all fine, went back to the one I had done the fur mask and even deleted the layer but still wouldn't let me do anything. Any ideas why this would be?

    Hi Jess! I've been following you for quite some time, but this is my first comment. Firstly, thanks so much for your videos. They've helped me SO much! I have had the absolute worst time when I attempt to mask the fur of my dogs (2 sable GSDs). I've watched your videos, but it's never worked properly for me, and I've just about given up. I currently have 16 Gig / RAM and am waiting (as I type this) for more to arrive, so that I will have 64 Gig. I was thinking that could cause my problem. I do plan on trying to use the server based masking. BUT, for the first time on any video that I've watched, I saw something on yours that is exactly one of the things that happens on mine. When you started the refine mask, as well as when you reach the top of the forehead, you got this area where there were lines in the mask turned almost like a comb - the brush was not a solid red. I thought that was some sort of issue on my computer, so I'll have to admit that I lit up when I saw it happen on yours (I'll assume that you have state of the art equipment. 😃) Do you know why that is happening and if it affects the quality of the mask at all? Thank you again. I always look forward Friday mornings, because I each breakfast as I watch your new video. Have a great day!

    • @ThatPhotographySpot
      @ThatPhotographySpot  Год назад +2

      Argh YES the jagged edge problem. This first popped up in PS 2021 and it still comes back some times. Most of the time, you can just ignore the teeth and triangles when you are brushing along with the refine edge tool, it often is just the visual of the brush process happening and you are pretty safe.
      HOWEVER - there are times when that jagged edge is actually still present even in the mask - always go back and triple check. So far, I've not found a reliable way to fix the jagged edges if they exist in the mask. Check for PS updates first, but often a hand mask with a brush is the only way. I have googled and searched the forums and nobody seems to know so we have to work with it as much as we can 💪

    Hi there! Im not sure if you do this or have made a video on this already but I recently took free photos for my local animal shelter. The background is atrocious in most of my pictures because they had to be taken inside the kennels at the shelter. I wanted the backgrounds removed so it looked like a portrait. Is there anyway to do this on photoshop or lightroom?

    • @ThatPhotographySpot
      @ThatPhotographySpot  Год назад

      First thing to try is restart the computer. Second thing to check is are there any updates needed for Lightroom or Camera Raw? Third thing to try it to re-install Lightroom (try all available options before this one though!)

    I am failing miserably with this and also the 2020 version. :)) Anyone else having problems? Is it possible my dog's fur (some light grey/brown strands) is the problem or the photo is not sharp enough (I don't think so?). I am following the steps but it just doesn't pick up all the hair. :(
