I thought you had to take all the switches + the backplate off to do this. I might actually do this now. The space bar sounds sooo bad. Really appreciate this no non-sense and straight to the point video.
can highly recommend that you order new plate mount stabs (cherry), mod them and then just replace them, it's sooo much better. I have a soundtest of my modded drop ctrl hp on my channel (Fully modded stabs, band aid mod, lubed and filmed switches).
just finished modding my stabs step by step to your video and i have to say you're a god send sir. thank you so much for the informative video ,in the future ill try to follow the rest of your videos to fully deck out my CTRL to a comfortable state :>
Thanks for the video! I have a CTRL High-Profile en-route, and just finished clipping and lubing my Cherry plate-mount stabs with 205 G0. Sealed them up nice in a plastic bag for now until the CTRL arrives. I ordered a barebones kit, so these will go in immediately, then I'll build it up from there. Thanks for the reference on how to remove the DROP stabs!
My stock stabs weren't anywhere near as bad as this, even had a poor attempt at lube on the very bottom of them lol. Went ahead and made them perfect and this helped a ton. Appreciate it.
Got the CTRL V2 low profile recently, bare bones and having trouble getting the stabilizers in. The part I'm stuck on is attaching the steel wire, seems I'm doing something wrong in getting in the right part. Unfortunately, finding a vid that can show in detail what goes where is not easy. Yours did help me a little bit, will try again after seeing some more vids.
How does clipping them help? Just got some stabs from Zeal. Didn't yet lube or clip. Already sounds better...less rattle. Wondering how clipping them would help.
What stabs actually are these. I need to get new stabs because mine rattle no matter what. I can get a plate mounted one because my PCb can’t use them. So does anyone know why I should get.
No you'll still get a lot of rattle. Lubing them will help, but only to a certain degree. Through some quick googling, I was able to find 2 sites that do claim to have cherry stabs in stock, but I've never ordered from them before, so I can't vouch for the validity. shopkey.doyustudio.com/products/001kba5?variant=31505397383243 www.winnja.com/keyboard-accessories/cherry-plate-mounted-stabilizers.html
Thank you so much! Love your videos. I got the CTRL this morning and I love it but the stabs definitely need some upgrade. I will check these sites and do some more research too.
I used Cherry plate-mount stabs. You have to make sure that they're specifically plate-mount and not pcb-mount stabs (pcb-mount won't work on the CTRL). I got mine from flashquark.com/product/genuine-cherry-plate-mounted-stabilizers/ but it looks like they're sold out of 2u stabs atm.
@@AustinV interesting, just to make sure I buy the right stabs, the CTRL high-profile require 1x 6.25u (space bar), and 4x 2u (for 4 function keys) correct?
@@AustinV Ah, makes sense. Thanks for making these videos btw! Just bought a drop ctrl and this is my first keyboard into the hobby. YOur videos are super helpful!

Yeah I’d highly recommend it. One of the many benefits of having a hot swap board 🙂 Also, thanks for the kind words!

@@AustinV Can I use the durock screw-in, transparent stabilisers on this keyboard?
@@king_dmj5280 Unfortunately, no. This board only supports plate mount, clip in stabs
@@AustinV oh, I was really excited when I saw the mod and thought I can use the durock ones. I'll use the gmk stabs

This video was incredibly helpful. I immediately fixed both of my Drop keyboards after watching. Thank you so much!
Nice, sounds way better and I bet it feels better too
It feels and sounds so much better after I also lubed all the switches too
the bass in the bg scratches my brain (in a good way) lol thank you for this!
anyone know the song playing during 7:30 ?? :) thanks so much its gorgeous !
Ikr, I wanna know it too 😭

Thank you! I took my stabilisers out and then didn't know how to put them back in lol.
Thanks! I just bought this keyboard and wanted to know how to mod it.. This video is perfect.
If I want to keep my 'clicky' sound with my cherry mx blues, do I want to use lube in this instance? I was told lubing helps dampen sound.
my stabs are being super stubborn is there any way to mitigate this?
How does clipping them help? Just got some stabs from Zeal. Didn't yet lube or clip. Already sounds better...less rattle. Wondering how clipping them would help.
Clipping the stabs will help with the bottom out feeling and sound. You'll get a deeper sound and a less "squishy" feeling bottom out

These are cherry plate mounted stabs
my stabs are almost the same, if not worse. (Drop Alt w/cherry brown)
So pumped to do this soon!
Definitely worth the upgrade! Gl with mod!
Thank you for this! The links are super helpful too!
Glad I could help!
did you purchase the 6u or the 6.25u stabs? i'm afraid i'm not sure what the difference is between the two
6.25. difference being the length of the stabs but u will need 6.25 for the drop ctrl spacebar.
Did you get 4 2u sized stabs and a 6.25?
Yup!
Thank you for this informative video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Would lubricating the original stabilizers be as good? It looks like the GMK stabilizers are out of stock.

@@AustinV Just a quick question (may ask more) do you remember what size you chose for the stablisers?
can you use the Krytox 205G0 to lube the switches too?

which stabilizers did u use? i have the same keyboard and i want to do that same thing

@@AustinV cool ordering now.
Dope video! Extremely helpful, new sub for sure.
Thanks! Appreciate the sub!
my stabs seem to be stuck and not come off :(
You might just not be pressing on the tab correctly. You also have to press pretty firmly
Hi,thanks for the video!
So i ordered everything but the Stablizers, Can you how many I need and Which ones exactly? thanks :)
You'll need 4x 2u and 1x 6.25u
following along!
You clipped the Cherry plate mounted stabs too?
Yup! Clipped and lubed them

@@AustinV Great video. I have the ALT high-profile. Are those the same size/amount stabs I need? I'm confused about how the sizes match the board.
@@farhajhayder8000 Yeah the ALT will use the same stabs as the CTRL
great video!
Thanks!
So, you have to unscrew the stabs to take them off, but the new ones don't need to be screwed on?
No the og stabs are clip in also. You just press the tab holding them on and lift up

@@AustinV Question - any reason you didn't want to do the band-aid mod? Or is that not really necessary for this?
@@LevisLBC Glad you found some use out of my videos!
@@LevisLBC I found that the bandaid mods caused interference with the stabs on my board. You could try it out tho. It wouldn't hurt

you went to fast pulling the old stabs out can't tell what you did.
