  • This series focuses on the Christ Consciousness recorded in Matthew 5-7. This episode covers the hypocrisy of Matthew 6:5-15.
5 “Whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray while standing in synagogues and on street corners so that people can see them. Truly I say to you, they have their reward! 6 But whenever you pray, go into your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you. 7 When you pray, do not babble repetitiously like the Gentiles, because they think that by their many words they will be heard. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 So pray this way:
From the book of Luke: One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”
“As the leader of his movement, Jesus’ followers looked to him to tell them what they needed to know and do in order to fulfill their obligations. So when they asked him to "teach" them to pray, they were, in effect, saying, what is the minimum prayer we can say and be confident that we have fulfilled our obligation? Since the Amidah was considered by that time to be in the category of an obligatory prayer, and since there are so many parallels between them, it is safe to say that this is the prayer upon which Jesus based his reply to the disciples.” Rachel Levine
The Amidah is the core of every Jewish worship service, and is therefore also referred to as HaTefillah, or “The prayer.” Amidah, which literally means, “standing,” refers to a series of blessings recited while standing.
    Back to the text...
Our Father in heaven, may your name be honored,
    10 may your kingdom come,
may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread,
12 and forgive us our debts, as we ourselves have forgiven our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
14 “For if you forgive others their sins, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others, your Father will not forgive you your sins.
    Session Exercises:
    1. Take the prayer line by line and ask, "What should this mean to me?"
    2. Take the prayer line by line and ask, "How can I live this out?"
"Christ consciousness" is a concept that has different interpretations depending on the spiritual or religious context. Generally, it refers to a state of elevated spiritual awareness or enlightenment that is believed to be similar to or inspired by the consciousness of Jesus Christ.
Some key aspects often associated with Christ consciousness include:
    1. Universal love and compassion
    2. Unity with the divine or a higher power
    3. Transcendence of ego
    4. Expanded awareness and spiritual insight
    5. A sense of oneness with all creation
This concept is not exclusive to Christianity and can be found in various esoteric, and interfaith spiritual teachings. Some view it as a potential state that all humans can aspire to reach through spiritual practice and personal growth.
