As much as I am not much of a Mapex fan, I have to give it the vote here. Something about that darkness sound on the center hits just charms me. And Tony really knows how to bring the sounds to our ears so well.
I'm suspicious to say, as I'm the happy owner of a Black Panther, I don't know if I'm used to the sound, but it seemed more pleasant to me, my vote goes to the Shadow!
Mapex Black Panther is my fave of this bunch. The Pearl Stavecraft is my 2nd choice. I feel as if the Mapex snare has the most character of them all. When I say character I mean that it has a very nice balance of all frequency ranges. It has good amount of presence that would mix well in a variety of situations and styles.
The Mapex Shadow is incredible! All of the Black Panther snare drums are great. That's the winner for me. Ludwig and Pearl are very beautiful too. I like less the DW snare, not my favorite sound (even if it's clearly a beautiful snare drum).
WOW, tough choice.... But Ludwig gets my vote.... The Mapex was a very close second. I like that you have do both room mics and full mics.... This is fun and educational. Thx
1. Mapex--overall hits all the points 2. Ludwig--amazing personality, love that sound 3. Pearl--interesting, did not sound as I expected it would 4. DW--great sound, but did not scratch the itch for me in this round of Drumble ***DCP, another great video!***
This is tough because I really dig that stavecraft snare on lower but I like the dw on higher. I think I overall like the pearl though. Stavecraft for the win
I have to say after listening over and over I kept going back to the Mapex. I don’t favor a lot of ring so I listen to see which ring is more pleasing to me. The pearl was way drier but it lacked a certain something to me. The DW was close and the Ludwig hard to pick between them but that black panther just had a beautiful clean note to it🥁🔥 Love the drumble intro cartoon 🥁🔥
The Mapex Black Panther Shadow! I’m surprised, that drum sounded amazing to me. Very full sounding. Just saw this series of you, love the name “royal drumble” :-)
The Pearl is the one for sure...I have a 14x6 maple complete, a 14x5.5 masters, and a 14x5 free floater....now I guess I gotta get one of these. Thanks guys, I hope my marriage can take it😁
For me, it's the Pearl StaveCraft Thai Oak 14x5. I think part of it is that I tend to prefer shallow snares over deeper ones. Also, while I think it sounds good in this video, I think it would sound better with a coated Ambassador (something I've mentioned to more than one of the staff at the store 😀).
Tough choice. At first i liked the Ludwig best but that DW reminded me of the old school sound and i loved it too. Just send me one of each and in a year or so I'll tell you which one is my favorite. Lol😂 Great video from my favorite drum store. I love not having to pay sales tax and y'all's prices are as good or better than most.
My #1vote this week goes to the Mapex Black Panther Shadow, full bodied sound with controlled overtones, plus visually looks good. Runner-up is the DW.
I had to listen twice to make sure because the jam vs head to head had me questioning. Head to head the Mapex did sound a little cleaner while the others a little muddy. But the jam section the Ludwig was popping. Second time around sealed it. Ludwig, Pearl, Mapex, DW
The differences are so minimal. It is just a matter of personal preference, any of those would sound fantastic in a recording or a live environment and my believe is that it would be very hard to tel the differences. If I had to choose a preferred sound, it would be the Ludwig tuned higher. But what is really killer for me is the drum sound. That sound, through the mic, is my dream come true. Any tips on tuning, drum heads, dampening,...?
The Pearl sounded massive! It’s the smallest in size yet the biggest-sounding. I like it.
That Mapex ALL day for me! 🥁 We OUT here for it!! “Royal Drumble” a fantastic name! 😆
Hey. You win. Shoot me an email if you want some free stuff! adam@drumcenternh.com
Man...not really a Mapex guy myself but that snare was smokin'! Loved it!
The Mapex Black Panther takes the cake for me on this one.
The Mapex Black Panther Shadow with its great attack from the birch and full body walnut sound is my pick.
As much as I am not much of a Mapex fan, I have to give it the vote here. Something about that darkness sound on the center hits just charms me. And Tony really knows how to bring the sounds to our ears so well.
Maprx are actually quite good, I have several and they definitely hold up against some of my more expensive snare.
@@thepluggy1 I didn't say they were bad, and notice I did give it my vote. Thanks
@@steverichdrummr no problem 😊
I'm suspicious to say, as I'm the happy owner of a Black Panther, I don't know if I'm used to the sound, but it seemed more pleasant to me, my vote goes to the Shadow!
Didn't expect it but I liked the Mapex the best

DW was really close, but I'm going to have to go with the Pearl Stavecraft 🥁
Mapex Black Panther, shadow.
1.mapex
2.ludwing, pearl
4.dw
Basically all of these snares sound good 👍
The Mapex Shadow is incredible! All of the Black Panther snare drums are great.
That's the winner for me.
Ludwig and Pearl are very beautiful too.
I like less the DW snare, not my favorite sound (even if it's clearly a beautiful snare drum).
I’m not a Mapex fan…well, maybe until now. Wow!! That Black Panther was just butter! Mapex, Pearl, DW, Ludwig.
Mapex is my favourite but only for a small amount. They all sound great
Mapex BP Shadow for me. All sound great.
Mapex BP Shadow!
Absolutely love the Ludwig Oak. My ear likes both tunings. Great concept for a drum comparison. Thanks. Stay safe.
WOW, tough choice.... But Ludwig gets my vote.... The Mapex was a very close second. I like that you have do both room mics and full mics.... This is fun and educational. Thx

***DCP, another great video!***
💯🫡
Mapex for the win. Ludwig very close second.
Mapex Shadow is the one for me. I bought one as soon as they came out and it is a truly amazing sounding wooden snare. I love it.
Mapex does it for me. Peace and Blessings 🙏✝️
The Ludwig Classic Oak is the best, that mid-rage attack is just so great, I could see it getting a lot of studio use.
I liked all of them, but I'm going with my first choice... the Mapex.
Maypex sounded great in both tunings
I didn't think I would like it but my vote is for the Mapex Snare. It just sounded awesome low and higher tuning.
Can't believe I'm saying it, but Mapex is the sound that caught my ear!!!
Ludvig Classic Oak,, 💖🥰💖
I like the Pearl Stave Craft Thai Oak the best, looks fantastic too
The Ludwig gets my vote. Great sound and great look. I'm a Tama guy myself but I do know a good snare drum when I hear one. Another great video DCP.
My vote goes for the one that took me by surprise - the Mapex Shadow!
the mapex BP shadow wins this week for me. The DW is close behind tho :)
First off, thank you for not putting "low tuning" in the basement like a dead mess! Great tunings all around. Mapex for me on this one.
Love the unique sound of the Pearl stave shell!
I loved the crispness of the Pearl Stavecraft Thai Oak and thought this was best overall snare from this group.
Mapex Shadow for me - sounds soo good.
Great mix of woods and makers - thanks guys ! 🥁👍🏼🥁
I have to go with the Mapex BP, it sounded the best and even had a more appealing finish
I would love to see all of them in my house but if I have to choose ,i'm going with the DW . Sounded the best with room mics.
All the best!
This is tough because I really dig that stavecraft snare on lower but I like the dw on higher. I think I overall like the pearl though. Stavecraft for the win
I am not a Mapex guy, but it takes the blue ribbon by a "smidge" over the Pearl Stavecraft Tai Oak.
Ludwig Classic Oak for sound, look and brand.
Have to go with the Pearl StaveCraft this week! All snares were awesome.
Mapex is my favorite and that Pearl was fantastic also, but I'd love to have any one of those drums.
Ludwig Classic Oak. It has a slightly more open sound compared to my second favorite, the Mapex.
Black panther
Ludwig Classic Oak for me 🔥
Mapex black Panther Shadow sounds great!🤩🤩🤩
easy, Mapex!
I’m running with the Shadows of the Night
I like the dryness and articulation of the Pearl, that's my pick. The Mapex was awesome too.
Have to stay with the Ludwig Classic Oak.
Mapex Shadow
The mapex wins it for me!
The Ludwig Oak for me. All sound great though
gaaaahhhhh..,.. it's difficult but i gotta go with the Mapex snare
Man that Pearl Stave snare is the tip top!!
Tough one for sure. I gotta go with the DW. But the Luddy Oak was right behind it. Just like the way you could hear the DW breathe just a tad more.
For me it's the Ludwig classic oak in medium tuning. DCP is the best drum shop and staff anywhere
The Mapex Black Panther did it for me
My vote is for the Mapex Shadow!
Gotta love the Black Panther....sounds great, looks good. Surprised me it took tops, but wasn't hard to choose it either
Ludwig Classic Oak!!! Thanks, Chris Zinn
Great snares, all of them. I have to pick the Pearl here with a very close DW on second place.
I think I'd go for the Classic Oak. The Pearl Stavecraft Thai Oak is pretty amazing as well.
The Mapex Shadow sounds amazing!
Mapex comes across best for me. Pearl second. Cool presentation. Fun caper.
The Pearl is the one for sure...I have a 14x6 maple complete, a 14x5.5 masters, and a 14x5 free floater....now I guess I gotta get one of these. Thanks guys, I hope my marriage can take it😁
They were all good, but man that DW Custom had some snap, crackle & pop, especially at the higher tuning. DW takes it for this round.
A great entries but the Pearl Stavecraft had something that caught my ear!
Mapex Shadow!!!!!
Man as much as I love my DW snares, all metal ones, I'm going with the Ludwig. That Oak sounded great at both tunings.
At first I was going to choose the Stavecraft Thai Oak, but the Ludwig Classic Oak won me over. It's got a FANTASTIC tone!
Mapex
Mapex Black Panther
Black Panther stunning looks as well thought they all sounded good though
I’m a DW guy.. but I have to vote for that BLACK PANTHER! 🔥🔥🔥🙌🏻❤️❤️❤️ loved it!! 🔥🔥
A close call between the DW Collectors and Mapex Shadow. I'd pick the DW.
That one was so much closer, the DW and Pearl were amazing but it’s the Ludwig for me. Thanks for the vid! 😊
Mapex Shadow! To my ear, it sounded fuller.
The Mapex Black Panther Shadow is my preference.
A big big fan of the Pearl StaveCraft Thai Oak Snare Drum 14x5, but I love oak snare and piccolo so it's a easy win for the shallowest !
The Pearl Stavecraft has my vote it has a great punch to it!!
Tough choice. At first i liked the Ludwig best but that DW reminded me of the old school sound and i loved it too.
Just send me one of each and in a year or so I'll tell you which one is my favorite. Lol😂
Great video from my favorite drum store. I love not having to pay sales tax and y'all's prices are as good or better than most.
I have 3 super phonics, 2-5" and 1-6.5". I switch them out every two weeks. Great for trying different heads and snares.
My #1vote this week goes to the Mapex Black Panther Shadow, full bodied sound with controlled overtones, plus visually looks good. Runner-up is the DW.
That was a hard one. The Mapex Shadow. The head to head was the final decider.
They’re all great sounding snares, but I would be the Pearl one 😊
I had to listen twice to make sure because the jam vs head to head had me questioning. Head to head the Mapex did sound a little cleaner while the others a little muddy. But the jam section the Ludwig was popping. Second time around sealed it. Ludwig, Pearl, Mapex, DW
Black panther shadow 🎉
That Mapex has such a beautifully full bodied timbre to it. For me it's the winner here.
I’m a Ludwig fan and I have to say for the win Mapex followed by the Ludwig. Keep em’ coming 🥁
Out of these 4, for me, surprisingly……the Mapex
The Pearl was my favorite; 2nd, was a surprise, Mapex; 3rd DW; and 4th Ludwig
The differences are so minimal. It is just a matter of personal preference, any of those would sound fantastic in a recording or a live environment and my believe is that it would be very hard to tel the differences. If I had to choose a preferred sound, it would be the Ludwig tuned higher. But what is really killer for me is the drum sound. That sound, through the mic, is my dream come true. Any tips on tuning, drum heads, dampening,...?
Classic Oak for sure!! Like the sensitivity of the Pearl but lacked the 6.5” depth.
Not much of a fan of Mapex usually but have to vote the Mapex BP Shadow. There was a warmth to the tone that I really liked!
