I matched your review!!! Something about that Noble & Cooley, it was visually elegant and you can hear it's distinct sound independent of mic location or tuning. A beauty--I'm afraid to click on how much it costs, though..
Ludwig Tulipwood wins! The Canopus Beech sounds the most like a snare that I'd play, but that doesn't make it better. The N&C Cherry doesn't have as much low end as I expected. The Pearl Ash is second best, but the Ludwig looks cooler and has more sonic density.
I wanted to like the N&C, was surprised at how good the Pearl sounded. But after multiple listens, the consistency of the DCP Limited Ludwig gets my vote - the smoothness of the after-tone is just so clean.
This is by far the most unpopular opinion in the comment section but i thought that the Canopus sounded absolutely incredible and its one of the best snares ive heard. You can’t go wrong with any of these but i choose the canopus
Did a blind test and it's the Canopus for me! That's based off the head to head samples at the end, when they're played in the context of a groove they all sound great.
I am the happy owner of a Lignum solid ply ash shell and my ear was drawn to that Pearl ash shell. I just love that sound! The Noble & Cooley comes second.
So little differences sonically. Didn’t expect this. All drums sounded great. The Canopus had the longest sustain to my ears. Those overtones were the good kind so the Canopus gets my vote. Quality control and quality of materials always factor in as well and for me Canopus tops that list too. Ludwig will always lag in those categories based on my experience. I should add that Canopus is sure to lose a popularity contest vote like this because fewer drummers in the U.S. are familiar with this builder.
There is something very special about the tone of the Canopus, especially with snares turned off. But, the clarity and consistency of sound from the Pearl has my vote!
Noble and Cooley Cherry. Excellent job of tuning, by the way...couldn't get much closer to each other. Also, thanks for including the room sounds. To me, they are a truer representation of each snare. Great job.
Well, they all would have a place in my collection . The Noble and Cooley wins by a nose but the Pearl has a super controlled sound which would fit into a lot of musical situations. Yes, Noble and Cooley , great looking and sounding ...the extra depth adds something that obviously "resonates" with me 😊
This one was super close for me! It really all came down to the subtlety of overtones in the head to head and for me I want a wood snare to have more control and warmth and the Noble and Cooley seemed to do that the best for my ears. So that’s my vote 1. Noble and Cooley Cherry 2. Canopus Beech 3. Ludwig Tulipwood 4. Pearl Ash
WOW!!! This may be the most challenging comparison so far. Here we go. 1) Tulip Ludwig/N&C collaboration is my winner. But it's very very close. N&C second
At the beginning seeing the lineup, I thought The N&C would be a clear win. I actually own the Ludwig and it's great! But to my surprise, I found the Pearl to be the most suited for the sound I love! Higher tunings really bring the life out of solid shell snares. It made my vote for The Pearl clear.
They all sounded great, this weeks contenders make it difficult to choose, but by the slightest of margins my votes are, 1/ Noble and Cooley 2/ Pearl 3/ Ludwig 4/ Canopus.
Lower tuning, in order of my preference: Noble & Cooley, Canopus, Ludwig, and Pearl. At the Higher Tuning: Canopus, Noble & Cooley, Pearl, and then Ludwig. If I had to narrow it down to only one snare drum, it would be tough! Canopus by a very narrow margin over the Noble & Cooley. I'm kind of surprised the Ludwig didn't do as well, to my ears, in this video. I will say that now I understand why some snare drums (and drum sets) cost an arm and a leg and maybe a vital internal organ! Noble & Cooley drums are works of visual art as well as great sounding instruments. And Canopus had a smaller depth than the N&C drum but still had plenty of crack and warmth. 🎉😂❤❤
I'm trying to pay attention to the snares but I keep getting distracted by how fabulous that kick sounds.
Was listening in my car and it's MASSIVE
The Pearl sounds the best to my ears and looks the best to my eyes! The inlay is a *very* nice touch.
Pearl MCC Ash,, 💖🥰💖
I dig the Pearl Ash, sounds so good in the high tunig.
Noble and Cooley
Pearl
Ludwig
Canopus

N&C Cherry. No competition.
Agree. Ludwig is "beefier".
1. Marketing
2. Pearl
3.Ludwig
4. Noble & Cooley
5. Canopus
nah n&c was 5 but everything else accurate
I think the NC was all around winner but that Music City pulled ahead in the high tuning category!!
1Pearl
2Noble&Cooley
3Canopus
4Ludwig
N&C hands down, hands up, hands sideways. Any way you hear it, it wins.
I wanted to like the N&C, was surprised at how good the Pearl sounded. But after multiple listens, the consistency of the DCP Limited Ludwig gets my vote - the smoothness of the after-tone is just so clean.
Ludwig low tuning is so good! It's like the sound you'd use if you needed to teach someone what a steam-bent snare drum sounds like.
1. Pearl
2. Canopus
3. NC
4. Ludwig
They were all nearly tied at the low tuning to my ear. But Canopus overall since the high tuning was the best of the four to my ear.
Ludwig/N & C Tulipwood. I own it, so I guess I'm voting twice...like we do here in Chicago
Someone's standing on business!
It's the Noble & Cooley cherry for me. They make stellar drums. The Alloy Classic was the first high-end snare I ever owned, and it still rocks.
This is by far the most unpopular opinion in the comment section but i thought that the Canopus sounded absolutely incredible and its one of the best snares ive heard. You can’t go wrong with any of these but i choose the canopus
I would go with the Canopus. Second would be the Pearl for me.
Pearl 4 shure
Canopus. Ludwig Tulip. Noble Cooley. Pearl.
#1. Pearl
The Noble & Cooley was nice and the Ludwig was nice too, but I like aspects of the Pearl the best to suit my sound.
Canopus no. 1 for me, but I would buy the Pearl (my no.2) because is pretty AF

Canopus for the win. sidebar - tony's playing on the noble and Cooley higher tuning was particularly inspired
100% the Canopus! All of them are great but that is my favorite.
Oh here we GO!!!! DCP is TOP SHELF!! That Ludwig absolutely crushes!! Thank you for the stuff from week three!! 🙏 🥁
I am the happy owner of a Lignum solid ply ash shell and my ear was drawn to that Pearl ash shell. I just love that sound! The Noble & Cooley comes second.
The Pearl Ash was my favorite out of the 4. The Canopus was very nice as well. Fabulous snare drums all around.
Pearl has my vote!. I actually liked each one a little more than the one before😁
Ludwig Tulipwood; has the sharp crack, body, and minimal odd midrange tones ringing out compared to the others
So little differences sonically. Didn’t expect this. All drums sounded great. The Canopus had the longest sustain to my ears. Those overtones were the good kind so the Canopus gets my vote. Pearl MMC Ash was the winner here for me!
Was very impressed with the Canopus high tuning, nice cut to it with a pure snare response. That gets my vote!
They all sound pretty similar honestly, I like the rim shot sound of the pearl more though
Canopus (had the most character)
N&c
Pearl
Ludwig
Ludwig is my favorite. I endorse this drum and love mine. Thanks for bringing these 2 great companies together.
Pearl for both low and High tuning
Noble and Cooley. The decay on that drum was so smooth. No “boing” just a natural fade. Love it.
Great job.
That Pearl is awesome tuned higher!!!
Canopus wins for me. Noble and Cooley second. Ludwig third. Pearl fourth.
The sound of the Ludwig is still tops in this line up. The others were great but for my money it's the Ludwig. Thanks for the competition.
Well, they all would have a place in my collection . The Noble and Cooley wins by a nose but the Pearl has a super controlled sound which would fit into a lot of musical situations. Yes, Noble and Cooley , great looking and sounding ...the extra depth adds something that obviously "resonates" with me 😊
The Pearl Ash certainly goes great with that wonderful kick!
The Pearl MCC solid Ash!
Very close - but the N&C gets my choice.
All beautiful snares.
Thanks again guys !
The Ludwig snare won it for me! 👏 Really loved both tuning examples.
The Ludwig Tulipwood sounds lovely ❤

This one was super close for me! It really all came down to the subtlety of overtones in the head to head and for me I want a wood snare to have more control and warmth and the Noble and Cooley seemed to do that the best for my ears. So that’s my vote
1. Noble and Cooley Cherry

4. Pearl Ash
Noble & Cooley Cherry gets my top vote. Close second was the Canopus. Then Ludwig, then Pearl.
The Ludwig sounds fantastic! Loved it 😘
The Ludwig for sure. Ludwig and NC teaming up to make a snare drum is brilliant.
Some great snares this week! I would place them as follows: 1st Pearl, 2nd Canopus, 3rd Ludwig and 4th Noble & Cooley.
WOW!!! This may be the most challenging comparison so far. Here we go. 1) Tulip Ludwig/N&C collaboration is my winner. But it's very very close. N&C second
I’d have to go with Ludwig. Based on overall sound with both lower and higher tuning.
This week the Pearl is my choice to go with.
Thank you for this chance to listen to a lot of instruments in a short time.
1. Pearl
2. N&C
3. Ludwig
4. Canopus
The noble and Cooley Pyle drived all the other ones and pinned them for the 3 count!
5 out of 5 stars for the Noble & Cooley! Such an incredible sounding snare!

❤ this series of snare vids 👍🏻
It is still ringing in my head, almost too hard to vote on. So, I go for Pearl!

Higher tunings really bring the life out of solid shell snares. It made my vote for The Pearl clear.
Canopus for the sound. Pearl got the look.
To my surprise - not generally a big Pearl fan - I like the Ash Pearl best. Great vids, chaps, BTW - looking forward to more!
My opinion might change tomorrow, but it’s the Pearl for me.
High tune...still the pearl I don't like to over the top ringing that pearl sound n look ...AWESOME
