Dersu Uzala

A look at the Akira Kurosawa film Dersu Uzala. This was a film shot in Russian, based on Russian history, looking at the expansion of Russia into unmapped territory in the early 20th century. It looks at the friendship between an old trapper, Dersu Uzala, and a Russian map-maker and how that evolves over time. It is a look at a passing generation.

Im with you in that i also like Dersu more than Rashomon. The latter is a good film, but this film really shows Kurasawa's heart in a way i dont see as much in some of his other, more popular films.
