    I know you want to focus on your own stuff right now. Maybe in the future, if sales slow down , you could feature a friend, or someone in the community for a month.
    Possibly kick the price up to 40€ and kick back 5-10€ per print to the photographer.
    One way you could make it more unique, or use it as a “thank you”, is to feature work taken during your workshops. Either from a group or individual.
    Just thoughts. Congrats on getting stuff done. Looks great!

    Brendan, can I ask an unrelated question? My current tripod was ok when I started my photography journey but now I have a 70-200 sigma lens ball head doesn’t lock into the correct position especially at slight angles. You see the lens drop slightly so you almost have to compose the shot higher than required to allow the drop. I would like to replace my tripod with carbon fibre and a head that locks where I pointed it. Any suggestions? I like the look of 3 legged things tripods but wondered what you might suggest? Thanks

    • @BrendanvanSon
      @BrendanvanSon  3 года назад +1

      Mark, are you putting a quick release on the lens itself? That usually helps balance it. If the lens doesn't have a tripod quick release, you definitely need a stronger ball head. None of the pro ones "lock" they just tighten enough (and easily) so that the lens doesn't droop. The 3LT ball heads are great.

    Great video Brendan, kicking myself I didn’t grab one when the Photography Show was on in September, but Covid cut earnings significantly:( NB found the Fotospeed Metallic lustre paper is a beauty for seascape photos. It has a nice “soft” metallic look (ie doesn’t have that overly tacky look on some papers). If you’ve not already explored it have a look into the accounting software for the Pro 2100, as it’s a good way of monitoring your print costs. Also good if you plan to make the printer earn its keep and offer a print service.

    Well mate, big printer, big responsibility. That is, if you want to see it continue to purr and churn out crisp prints. These beasts aren't designed to sit long periods of time between jobs, so you need to print something fairly regularly. Now then with that out of the way, here's an idea for you when you're not printing your own images for your photography clients. With your octopus model of multiple income streams uppermost in mind; you can put your printer to work printing other people's product - offer it as an extra byproduct service (because hey the printer can help pay for it's own life), and that's an extra stream of income to maybe help you finish fixing up the shop, as well as financing more papers and inks. Cheers bub, @DarkWaterPhotoMedia

    Brendan since you didn't mention it I believe Canon did not warn. In order for the printer head not to become clogged you must not turn off the printer and must disable the sleep function on it. That will allow the printer to perform the head cleaning process whenever it needs to. Also, Hahnumele fine art paper is very sensitive to fumes and temperature changes. If you ever paint your studio or the area where the printer is, you must take the paper out until all the fumes have been dissipated. Other wise you'll end up with yellowish paper/prints.

    • @BrendanvanSon
      @BrendanvanSon  3 года назад

      If you sell images as a 5-copy, it's based on the size/paper. So you can do limited runs at different sizes. For example, the same picture has a 5-limit run at 32x24". But, that same photo also has a 50-limit run as 8x11". If that makes sense.

    • @luczambozambo7272
      @luczambozambo7272 3 года назад

      You call the shots. So if everyone understands that for you premium is a matter of size, not of exclusivity, fine. Personally, an image with just 5 copies ever printed and signed carries much more value than one with hundreds of siblings, irrespective of the size.

    Fantastic Brendan! Being able to do your own prints must be very very satisfying. I would love to be able to do that but the cost of such a large printer is far to expensive for me. I have a great print studion that does a brilliant job and very professional framing as well. (still want my own printer though LOL)

      @@BrendanvanSon that’s a lot cheaper than here in the US, it costs $2,700 plus tax at B&H, but that does include shipping.

    Wow, Wow. So many people took your advice and made the choice to not sell prints because of the way you have ALWAYS talked smack about doing it and now it's O.K for you. Ya your just a hypocrite!

      Go back and watch the video. I talk about how to better sell prints. Sure, I talk smack about people selling prints when they don't have a market or a way to sell them, though. That doesn't make me a hypocrite. it makes me someone who talks sense. Would you try to sell coffee sell coffee without a coffee shop? Probably not. Most photographers try to sell prints without a store, gallery, website, etc. It just doesn't make sense.

      P.S. Even if I did tell people not to sell prints because it's a bad business... that doesn't make me a hypocrite. It makes me an idiot. haha
