    I think it’s very important to add theres a little trick called the Salt Divide... basically pet food producers are not allowed to have more than 1% salt content in the food and the way an ingredient list works is items are listed from greatest value to least value SO anything that is past salt in the ingredient list means there is less than 1% of that ingredient in the food. This is especially important to look at when choosing a food because as far as marketing goes, as long as the ingredient is listed on that list, companies can plaster it all over the bag. i.e dog foods branded to be healthy with blue berries, sweet potato, carrots etc. on the front of the package to make u believe the food is chalk full of good stuff for your dogs can, in reality have less than 1% of those things in the food (helpful hint when looking at those ingredients)

    • @zainajenkins

      If you're eating cake or pastries with tons of refined carbs and OIL then yes, inflammation is what you'll get. If you eat French fries with OIL, again, inflammation. Whole plant food carbs from rice, potatoes, fruits, etc are in their purest form and are antiinflammatories.

I still give him fresh foods though (he knows the word carrot his favourite veg!) His favourite food is cooked fish which he gets as often as we can give it to him (especially on his birthday that's a must have present!)

I’ve been doing research on what else I can add to her kibble. My senior maltese eats the Farmer’s dog fresh food that we get delivered and he lover it! We recently saw Food Just For Dogs and they sell it at our petco now and it may be a slight bit cheaper, so we’re going to try their fresh food soon! Can you do a video on any of those two brands? 1. For sprint based sport dogs, a higher amount of carbs can actually be very beneficial. The brands that pour a ton of money into their research know this and have formulated foods perfect for this. They aren't their big sellers compared to their other formulas, but they're also not aiming it to the average pet owner. Plenty of other formulas fit great for it as well. There are valid sources for this openly available.
    2. Carbs are very easy to calculate in a dog food. They're not really hiding anything. There's no hidden agenda there.
    3. Despite what some may think, dogs are thriving extremely well on well balanced kibble but the key is foods that are proven to be well balanced.
    4. Extra, but ingredients like by products are absolutely great to have in a food. When you feed raw, you're feeding a lot of by products so..
    Look, I understand this is your opinion (and I used to think that way years ago), and you can feed what you want, but there's no scientific evidence to back up some of your statements.
    We are seeing a negative pattern with some of these so called "more biologically correct" brands so going off of protein amount or "meat protein percentage" will not tell you anything if it hasn't been formulated properly. I won't count on these brands to be honest about anything (especially if they suddenly change formulas without notification or thorough re-testing). Lower carbs does not equal a better food on an overall basis.
    There's also no evidence that suggests raw feeding is superior to kibble. The board certified veterinary nutritionists I know help with formulating/choosing a raw, homemade or kibble option. The key is being well formulated. A lot of people feeding raw have a formula that is lacking in one area. The key is formulation that is proven to be balanced.

    Hi!! I have a one year shitzu. Can you recommend the healthiest kibble for a dog with gastrointestinal issues ..also what fresh food brand is the best ? I want to transition him slowly . Right now he is on the royal canine gastro food and I know it's not good for him . I put him on the wellness food it got him sick so back to royal ☹️ want to get him off. I also notice he must have an allergy to something lots of paw licking and biting and pulling on tail 😕 any advice is appreciated 🙏💗

    Rachel, you videos have helped me enormously. My Goldendoodle Enzo is 14wks old and I have been working with him since I started watching you. He is fully crate trained, sit, stays, waits, rolls over, touch, speaks and shakes all on command. Thanks to you. I am feeding a raw food diet but making it on my own. I am having a hard time grinding my chicken bones with my grinder... Any raw bone meal you recommend that I can buy? Also, is there any recipes you have or can share that I could follow?

      If I had to pick, I would feed cooked fresh food over kibble any day!

    I had to actually start getting my dog Dog chow instead of what I was getting, but that also meant, that My cat didnt have to be rehomed and i can get them other necessities. So I would say that I am doing my best. I do give my dog chicken and some other stuff when im making it.

    At the moment I’ve continued the kibble from my breeder, and have been using it as hand fed training during meal times, but I’d like to start adding toppers. Since I’m not using a bowl, does this mean I’d just hand feed the topper like I do the kibble?

    Do you add in the moisture percent in the guaranteed analysis?

  • @iamwatergirl
    @iamwatergirl Год назад

    IT'S not just carbs, they can't digest GMO products. The quality of the kibble matters; most are made with plastics. They should not have grains, or corn

    Hi Rachel! I use Valens (beef, bison, lamb, wild boar) made in British Columbia. They been existing for 100 years with no recall. Low carbs, grains free, 9 first ingredients is meats, pasture. Wonder if you ever heard of it and what you think about it ! Is if Better than Carna4 quality wise .

    I get that raw food is nutritional and all... but our dogs are not wild. They are not in the forest eating raw food. Is like humans... back in the days we would eat raw animals but now today we dont because of so much diseases...i guess im still questioning this raw food idea. Im scared of my puppy to get sick :(

    Orijen says it has 16% Carbs on the back of the Puppy Food bag, fyi. Also, I was feeding my 2 (lost them both to cancer last year) Border Collie Lab mixes food I made in the Instant Pot, I'm assuming this is cooked and therefore not good, right? The recipe came from Pet Food recipe books for the Crock pot.

    You say low carbs is best, awesome, and that 50-60% is too much, but don’t give a range for what you consider low. Can you give a range for what you consider low enough in carbs?

    Carna 4 looks great, except for the fact it contains lentils and peas, which are now known to cause DCM in dogs. Do you have any better alternatives? I would actually like to see some canned food alternatives. I feed canned food, with some Stella and Chewy freeze dried (reconstituted) on top. Love your videos. They are very informative. It is very difficult to find a good dog food these days, as things are so much more expensive now. Thank you.

    I’m about to get a puppy, but my senior chihuahua has a vet recommended kibble, so if your vet recommends something and you watch this video do not switch off that kibble without talking to a vet!

    • @MIZZKIE
      @MIZZKIE 4 года назад

      Most vets are brainwashed during their college days because major pet food companies pay most vet colleges to teach students crap information that makes them recommend their crap pet food. Also, they only get a few hours on learning about pet nutrition over their 4 years in college that it's practically useless.
      Because of this reason, most vets know jack shit about REAL nutritional information. You just have to find the ones that do actual research instead of believing whatever the pet food industries feed them.
