In an hydronic HVAC system with a 2-pipe direct return setup, we use balancing valves to make sure each machine gets the right amount of water. Balancing valves are installed at the outlet and manually set to have desired flow rate (GPM). Once adjusted, the balancing valve stays in place to ensure each machine gets only the water it needs. Additionally, an automatic control valve, with the help of a thermostat in the air conditioning space, adjusts the flow of water based on air conditioning needs. Balancing Valve will not automatically adjust flow rate , we manually adjust balancing valve to setup the flow we want to have in that machine .
Assalam O Allikum Sir...let say if we have 4 AHUs at 700 TR operating at 75% load. Let say, if out of 4 AHUs, 2 are turned off for maintainace aand their balancing valves are turned off as well and other 2 are running at the same load, then where will the remaining chilled water be going which was providing chilled water to AHUs which are tunred off dor maintainace?
W.Salam, I have explained in video. However, if constant flow system then 3-way valves are installed with AHUs and water bypass from 3-ways. If variable water system is installed then 2-way installed at AHUs and pump's will be VFD drive and also bypass in chiller plant room.
