I'm Italian and I can tell a legit apple pie is amazing. It should not be that custardy and my assumption is that your cake was simply too tall and ended up undercooked. Also, normally the apples/butter ratio is different: when my family prepares that, it's more like a sponge cake with lots of apples on top and pieces of apples inside; not apples with a little bit of cake.
For pie crust I recommend freezing the butter and then treating the butter into the dry ingredients. That’s s keeps the butter cold while getting the butter into smaller prices so it’s a bit more even throughout. If you’re really worried about the butter getting too warm it’s after you’ve mixed the grated butter into the dry ingredients throw it in the freezer for about 5 to 10 minutes just to get it really really cold.

The main reason why his Apple Butter is failed because the heat from his stove was too much compared to the Dutch Oven (electric stove) and he set the flame too high for simmer, just set the flame where it almost blown out by wind (very very low) and you will have better results. This re-live my horror experience when I was still teenager, I often forget to simmer my soup on really low heat to the point where my pot was pitch black and almost caused fire on my house (this is true story, I wont deny it) and get spanked with wooden plank by my dad for almost destroying the house. I feel his pain about that yet I was laughing on how bad I was back then.
He also cut the recipe in half, but didn't cut the cook time at all despite using what looks like the same sized dutch oven. I would say the heat burnt it, but the time would have probably turned it into glue anyway.
True, he should reduce the cooking time to 2-3 hours instead of 12 hours to ensure that his apple did not burn since the amount of recipe he used was less than what he follows. The problem with using the gas stove is they cant control the amount of heat for cooking/simmer the food thus creating tons of issue if you dont check it regularly like others did to prevent disaster.
me as german i am used to different kind of apple cake and prefer my version. we basically combine crumble and cake. i prefer having 2/3 layer dough , then 1/3 layer apple cubes mixed with bit of applesauce and on top you just combine butter, flour sugar cinnamon , you form HUGE crumbles with your hands (not the tiny ones that look like dust) spread it and bake it, it's really yummy. the fritters tho (minus the glaze) looking super yummy but woulld maybe taste too oily to me. i wonder if you could simply add a bit of oil to the dough and normal bake it in the oven or airfryer

came back here to say that i think the reason your apple butter ended up as a pot ruining mess is because it was scaled down, so cooking time wouldnt take quite as long as if you used more. That recipe is all about slowly dehydrating the apples to get that jam consistency. love u mwah
“Must be A-OK” had me dead.
Just made your apple crumble. I'm a solo human and can't commit to a full crumble, so I made it in ramekins instead. I cooked 1 in the air fryer as per instructions. Air fryer + small portion = Cajun style crust. still good.
I love this guy
I'm surprised you didn't do Apple Dumplings of any kind, those are my personal favorites next to Apple Pies
The heartfelt message at the end made my day, so thank you
i think my fav is the apple butter by far
At one point in each of your videos, I find myself laughing until the tears fall.
my favorite recipe this year for sure has to be the apple butter thanks for showing me that I cant wait to make little jars of it for gifts to my loved ones.
Crumble is nice with cooking apple varieties as they help combat the sweetness a bit
Yeah, my mum’s crumble recipe always used cooking apples. Although, the whole crumble looks completely different to the one in this video so it could just be a difference in recipes.
The apple fritters look delicious
