I Picked up Ariens Rocket 7 rear tine tiller. Has hh70 dual shaft engine. Broken connecting rod. Sure the crank is shot. Is it worth fixing? I need a replacement engine. Stat
Refresher course is nice! It has been years since I have delved this far into an engine. Brings back a lot of good memories of when I was younger. Your vids are the best. You do not skip anything. Thank you for that.
Hi Taryl. Im 61, 50 years ago i had the same engine on my first mini bike. I unhooked the governer. About one week and blew the rod thru the block. Patched the block with copper sheet, pop rivets, and liquid steel. New rod, ran great. revved up yooper. P.S. eventually blew another rod so i up graded to a 5 hp tecumseh. Nice video, i love them all. No Porch Pirates where i live, ( way out in Gods country)
Just inherited a 65 sears custom tractor and started rebuilding the old h70 on it. Your videos have been so helpful! Greatly appreciate you taking the time to film for us younger guys who don’t have a lot of experience with these motors that predate us!
Taryl, Just want to thank you for your very informative video packed with good practical information in rebuilding small engines. I am rebuilding an HH 60 and your video provided me with gret details not mentioned in the modern manual I found and I was able to get the torque specs for the connecting rod bolts from your book when you showed a screen shot. That spec is left out of the updated manual along with several other things you mentioned. So thank you very much. You and your expertise is greatly appreciated. As well as your humor.
Thanks Taryl for taking the time out of your day and weeks to make these informative videos! This save me and so many other people so much money! Thank you and Happy Fathers Day!
I just finished a total rebuild on my 8 hp Briggs and Stratton engine out of my 1979 John Deer 108 using only this video. The first small engine I've ever done. I even bought a torque wrench to do it. This little motor runs so good you could put it on the space shuttle!!! Thank you Taryl !!!
I just started to rebuild a go kart with a tecumseh h35 my dad left me 10 years ago after he passed. I watched this video and part 2 and it started my love for engine rebuilding.I can’t thank you enough Taryl for all the knowledge and entertainment. and There’s your dinner
I have been working on small motors for 40 some yrs, I know how to do most of the stuff you do, but your very crafty I really enjoy your video's. And the comedy is excellent I'm 52 and love it. Lol
Thanks so much for your "how to" videos, Taryl. Thanks to this one, I successfully rebuilt an old Sears Craftsman "Roto-Spader" with a LAV35 Tecumish from 1978! It was my father's so there's a little sentimental value, as I got the gardening bug from him, and that old tiller has been running for all these years, albeit it was overdo for a rebuild. Probably not worth the $100+ that I put into it, but for me it was. Your videos are clear and easy to follow, very well done! I love your comedic style as well, what more to say?! Thanks again!
I had a 3 1/2 hp Tecumesh on my Keystone mini bike bought new in 1974. I have since found a nice 5hp horizontal shaft of the same era I want to rebuild, this really helps! Thank you Tarly!!!!
Taryl, I have the fancy tools, but I enjoy watching your channel, and I am never too old to pick up a nice little trick, or a different way to do something. You are also great entertainment, and a great educator all rolled up into one.
I have all the fancy tools as well including a valve grinding machine and valve seat resurfacer. And a ridge reamer. Next birthday I’ll be 70 years old so I’ve collected a little more stuff. This spring I’ll be rebuilding a 21 and a 23 horse Intek motor so all that stuff will come in handy once again. Taryl’s videos have been a great help. Thanks Taryl.
Thank you for your videos. My wife left me two days ago and when I get home and think about all that's going on I watch your videos and it really helps me get through my hard times never stop making RUclips vids. Now there's your dinner!!!!
Hello Taryl, I really enjoy your sense of humor, I like this sort of work a lot, small engines all over the place, generators, log splitters, leafblowers, etc. I 'd like to say, "Thanks very much for showing us how to fix these engines.
I would like to thank you for your RUclips videos about a year ago a gave me a generator to see if I could get it running for her. I work on it for about a week. I got it running wow I have found me a hobby and that's working on small engine .I watch a lot of your RUclips videos to get help you go onto alot of detail and your camera man dose a good job getting in to see what your talking about thanks you keep you the good work
Thanks to you Taryl, I rebuilt a H35 for a friend. Only had Sears model and serial numbers, could not figure out the Year. Did some interscreen, found H35 1982 and prior has 1.844" stroke @ 65 degrees BTDC, H35 1983 and later has 1.928" stroke @ 35 degrees timing. This engine measured the 1.844" stroke, Purrrrs like a kitten at the 65 Degree timing!
The man is a HOOT, also a good wrencher, talks about the gaskets or seals and u hear the sound of seals in the back-ground. I have a great brother, But if I could have one more, Taryl would be him.
Your Video's Are Fantastic,I Enjoy Your Knowledge of the small engine repair and the comedy! I will be using these videos to rebuild my 8hp briggs. THANKS
I was an old back yard mechanic and used a lot of what was laying around. I had an account with Stens and they would have parts to my door by the next day usually. Like watching you to see how you do it.
Just to help, I said click when you were torqueing . LOL . some of us may have all the tools but there's nothing like watching a master at his craft. Thanks Taryl
i just love it when you use the falsetto voice mocking your detractors. hope you keep that as a regular part of your act. great small engine how-to videos, one of the very best on youtube, in my opinion. keep them coming.
Greatest repair channel on RUclips by far! Thanks for taking the time to share these videos with us:) I bought your CD with autographs and I play it when doing repair work on my equipment, it makes the repair work bearable:)
I think you’re great I love watching your videos learn a lot it always cracks me up that more people don’t take on their own repairs on their houses or their equipment or their cars I’ve always been able to learn new things and fix things and I just can’t understand people that don’t take on their own repairs thanks for the tips and tricks
PS my favorite thing is when people I know our friends say oh you probably should get somebody else to do that you know that’s complicated nothing in life is rocket science we’re not building the space shuttle and then I love to do it and prove them wrong they don’t like me
Another great video Taryl and the gang. Best 1hr 19mins of the entire day. I don't have a small engine like this one but I bet I could rebuild one now after watching the master
I like how he dont make a huge issue out of torqing everything to specs. I been working on engines 30 yrs never torq things to exact specs other than rod and main caps or heads. But the rest is just good tight/snug.
Hi Taryl, yes I did try that with the dishwasher, put a few ounces of dawn in it and had bubbles all over the kitchen. Did a fine job w the engine she never knew was in there, I did have dishes to do first anyways and not much powder left, told her I had no dw soap an used dawn. either way it did work, so Thanks!
A Pro Tip on making your gaskets last for multiple removal and reinstall cycles is to lightly coat them with bearing grease, both sides, so they can be removed over and over again and save you from wasting gaskets when you just need to make some minor adjustments. A lot of these paper-composite gaskets become permanent (bonded) once they're installed and when you take something off, the gasket disintegrates or splits in two, with half of the material on one piece and half on the other. Technique is probably most helpful for the carburetor gasket because the carb gets a lot of attention maintenance-wise
Taryl and Co. You all do a great job and have taught me so much. I enjoy the comedy after a long week out mowing and hard work. If you cant laugh then you have bigger issues!! Love the videos and your a great guy. I was in your 2018 GIE video and because of you and another guy I decided to start a channel. Thanks for everything Brother! #WOLFPACK
So when flattening your deck or your head on that piece of sandpaper. We also use WD-40 in the machine shop for the same purpose. It helps the sandpaper from loading up too quickly. We did this a lot before we would finish grinding a part. Just to see if there were any irregularities from heat treating.
Thanks for your help on these small motors by the way. I found that fixing generators is more fun than fixing cars - doing a head gasket on one of these motors takes half an hour instead of half a week - you don't gotta rip all this crap off. Everyone wants a generator too - they're always useful as long as they're running right

You are a real grass rat. You patch up a motor. That was junk and made it work with liquid steel and copper. That a trip
Like I say your a real grass rat right cut from same cloth as tr on the show
Taryl teaches me patience , by always being calm , cool and not getting frustrated like I do ..!
