For Gibraltar you do need a permit. To get one you either need to have a job in Gibraltar or proof of self sufficiency (which includes self-funded health insurance). You can sort it out after arriving there, but it is hard to get accommodation (also a requirement) without a job offer/contract.
So, looks like the French got something right, while we were shortsighted. Thanks for this information. I think that the French got it right and our lot got it wrong. I would love to be able to move to one of those BOT with nice weather and I don't mind if they want to come live here in the cold. Am happy to swap places 😁
Speaking as a Caribbean man whose parents were from two former British colonies it doesn't benefit any Caribbean island still being a British colony there are no benefits for any Caribbean island to remain as a British colony
BOTC are now automatically British Citizens too, so they can freely come here but we can't go there. One reason may be small rich places like Bermuda that you mentioned and the Caymen islands wouldnt want to be overrun with brits an BOTC from other overseas territories looking for employment. Also very small places like Pitcairn have a unique way of life.
Likewise Gibraltar citizens are full British citizens, not overseas territory citizens, and have right of abode in the UK. I assume Guernsey has the same reciprocal agreement.
U.S citizens can move to the U.S virgin islands and live and work there but UK citizens cannot move to British Virgin Islands and live there. It makes no sense at all. And to the person who will say its because these territories' are small well the U.S virgin islands are small and yet Americans can move there so the size is not the reason
I'm French Caribbean and I ttly agree. Anyone with an EU passport can relocate to a French OT, due to Schengen rule. Ironically, when the UK was in the EU, it was easier for a British citizen to relocate on a French OT than a BOT 😂😂😂 As a matter of fact, I knew a Mainland UK-born Australian guy who was in a hurry to relocate to my island (before Brexit) since he it didn't like it in London at all. But, I didn't even know the different passports neither or the visa policy ... It doesn't make sense in 2024...it's weird, honest
Exactly, be British it’s so useless than even if you are British citizen you are not allowed to live in own British overseas territories totally no sense and control that the British citizen on mainland accept without arguing it.
It's not only about passport it's also about voting rights. Everyone in the french overseas territories with a french ID and with voting rights ( above 18 with civil rights) is entitled to vote for local elections but also for national elections ! The Tahitian vote for the president's elections ! Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guyana, Reunion and Mayotte Islands are in fact french departments like the french mainland departments. New Caledonia, Polynesia are french territories with french citizenship but also have local administration and only the local can vote for them.
Yes I can get on a plane and go live in Réunion or Guadeloupe tomorrow. I have a Romanian passport. I don't know how this would work for French Polynesia or Bora Bora though
HI, Can i use the Gibraltar hospitals as a UK citizen. My wife is waiting for a Gallbladder operation. Hopefully we'll have no surprises... But would like access to a good hospital just in case, You answer would be appreciated. Thanks
Thats not it. Thats not it at all. They are not the ones who make those rules. The UK does. If the UK wants to change the policy they can change it tonight, The territories dont decide that at all.
It's due to size and u.k government policy. The ots were stripped of british citizenship back in 1981, because of the future handing over of Hong Kong was soon coming, 5 million people lived in hk and Britain didn't want 5 million of them flocking over before the handover to China, so the uk and crown colonies citizenship was changed to several layers of citizenship. When hk was given to China this policy of different citizenship didn't change. It took until 2002 for return of British citizenship and the ots can't stay or work in the uk with a those other lower British citizenship options unless they apply for full British citizenship. It was about 5 million people in hk. Quite a xenophobic law.
If everyone done a dna test, you would realise that you apart of many Countries, and therefore a citizen of the world. We should be able to move freely and live where we feel to contribute to
The days when a British passport enabled you to live and work around the world are long gone. The Empire is a dim memory. You are not a "citizen of the world", but a citizen of a little island in the North Atlantic. Get used to it.
@@FAngus-ly8lk Why would we 'get used to it' - we have always been the same fucking size Island lol. And what an amazing force this tiny Island has been, huh?

Actually, I'm French, born in Paris but originally from the a French Caribbean oversea territory and I relocated there at the age of 5-6 years old. It's actually always a bit messy culturally and in terms of governance. But, yes the "territorial continuity" of the French system makes it no brainer to live where you want on the entire French territory, regardless of the geographic situation. Same in Italy. People from mainland can come for holidays and decide to stay a few months, a few years or for ever... or the other way around. The government doesn't care. Except if you work in public services, locals have priority on certain jobs (teaching in public schools etc.), if you're in the private sector, than none of this matters. You just need your ID, no passport required. I'm so impatient to get to know Gibraltar. I'm London-based. I'd love to relocate for a few months ❤❤❤ Thanks for the video
Why would we they would fit in much better here and there’s only about 200 of them a year, we should probably get them to move to scotland as it is very sparsely populated up there
Give the Malvinas to Argentina and Gibraltar to Spain, just like you did with the chagos. We all know that will eventually happen... set free the people of the English colonies (including Scotland and NI).
Cheer up; if the people of Scotland get their way, you will need a Visa to visit Scotland. It is Brexit payback time soon. We told you it was Brexit or the UK as a political union. Enjoy.
I got the Caribbean islands that my parents are from are both independent have been independent since the 1960s been under the rule of the British never ever benefited us only the British benefited from colonisation is been at this 6 to 1600 since the days of slavery the British got rich wife my people remain poor poverty I am glad that both of the Caribbean islands that my parents are from a fully independent and have been independence since the 1960s there are no benefits of being a colony in 2024 I hope Caribbean islands that Puerto Rico Guadalupe Martinique French and Dutch St Martin the Dutch ABC Islands new Providence and San Andreas all become independent from the French the British and the Dutch

Bit strange our country just brings them in via navy and RLNI..STRANGE EVERY WHERE ELSE YOU CANNOT GO. Rishi

If they have the right to live in our country we should have the right for theirs. Simple.

If I win the lottery I would relocate to Jersey as it’s warmer, sunnier and doesn’t tax people to death.

I was wondering about UK Citizens right to work in Gibraltar, I think you pretty much have answered that question. cheers!
Glad the video helped!
So bit of a silly question having full British citizenship could i apply to have lets say a Caymen islands or Turks and Caicos passport ?
Perhaps London would not wish to have a reciprocal agreement with these places?
can i bno passport convert to full British passport

Can you do a BOTC passport different from a British Citizenship?
The reason is simple; British Overseas Territories are self governing and free to make their own immigration rules.
and taxes
Thats not it. Thats not it at all. They are not the ones who make those rules. The UK does. If the UK wants to change the policy they can change it tonight, The territories dont decide that at all.
Happy to be paid for and defended by the British, however. Where’s the need for independence there?

No it's not
UK got freak xenophobic rules against them own.
Cypriot Rome etc
they should do like french
Tristan Da Cunha doesn’t allow even British citizens to move there, unless you married a local or have a job there.
Same with the Falklands - I called them directly for a video and they told me the same thing.
Its do with Tax bro.
The rich can go to Bermuda lets say and have a different passport with 0 tax.
Guernsey is not a British Overseas Territory. It’s a Crown Dependency. Big difference
It’s more complicated in Guernsey, we are a bailiwick
Gibraltar and the Falklands ? maybe, but they are self governing and free to decide for themselves.

exactly they are trying to cage us in like animals , unless your born or make it rich then its pretty simple
Then the third world would overwhelm the few places which are nice to live and then they would become the third world too with that policy.

The only downside when you give exclusivity like the French is that it creates a back door for unwanted immigration
Why don't we send the small boat people to the Falklands and other overseas territories?

If those British Overseas Territories are accepting British taxpayer money, then the British taxpayer must be allowed to move there.
we can move to Ireland a Sovereign country but Not to a British Overseas Territory
