The Best Fertilizer You've Never Heard Of...

- Today I'm going to show you the best lawn fertilizer I have ever used in my lawn. That fertilizer is called Sustane 18-1-8. It gets your grass very dark green and can be used in your lawn all season long.
This fertilizer is a slow release fertilizer with micronutrients of iron, calcium, and sulfur. It also has 18% nitrogen, 1% phosphorus, and 8% potassium. The make-up of this fertilizer is very close to Milorganite, but I have compared them head to head and Sustane is a much better alternative to Milorganite.
Sustane 18-1-8 has four different sources of nitrogen. Those sources are organic nitrogen (chicken litter), ammonium sulfate, urea, and poly coated urea. This helps with keeping your lawn deep green for 12-16 weeks.
Sustane 18-1-8 with Iron is the ideal fertilizer for use on golf course fairways and roughs, lawns, and sports fields. Sustane 18-1-8 with Iron is also an excellent fertilizer for all landscape areas as well as container topdressing.

You can buy Sustane 18-1-8 here: twincityseed.com/products/fer...
(Click add to cart from main fertilizer page, if you click on the actual fertilizer it will tell you to call Twin City Seed to order, but you are able to order online from main fertilizer page. They are working on fixing this).

A few people have asked, so I better make this clear. I was not paid a single dollar in making this video and I will not make any money off of any sales with this fertilizer. This is 100% my honest review on this fert. I'm going to let my results speak for themselves.
I like all their organic products too, impressive. Your lawn is fab Jesse!
What kind of grass do you have? Also, what state are you located in?
@@derrickwhite2416 His grass is Zoysia and he lives in San Francisco
@@BlakWiseCracker No, it's 100% marijuana, and he lives in Puerto Rico.
Hello, is this fertilizer available anywhere in Michigan? (Detroit)
You and George are my favorite lawn guys
Legit content bud!! Always look forward to it....down here in Arkansas livin the loooow bermuda lyfe
Great stuff. Now I'm going to have to get a bag! Those stripes are poppin!
Your post is perfect timing for my next project. Thanks bro!
Awesome! Hope it goes well!
Your intro & out-tro were fantastic! 5 ⭐️s
Thanks man!
I just started using this season…amazing results
I'm glad it's working for you Tommy!
Who believes "mowing a lot more is a pain in the butt" for this guy? He LOVES this stuff, and should own it. He and my neighbor would get along great. They both live to make their lawns look great. I am impressed and jealous of both. I am slowly moving from weeds to green - but I always seem to have something better to do, rather than fix the lawn. But it's getting there one step at a time. My wife even said the other day how much better things are looking...after like 4 years of little things.
Well-made video! Beautiful lawn.
Thanks Grant! I appreciate you watching!
The lawn is looking 🔥and the video production is next level 🎬
Thanks John! Baby steps with improvement 😂
Great looking lawn , if I let my lawn go dormant in summer how many applications of PGR can I apply in the spring And in the fall for my cool season lawn in Chicagoland area.
Spectacular lawn. Wow
Thanks for the info always looking for the best fertilizer
Give it a shot, especially if you're low on potassium.
Jesse, Good video. Your lawn looks great!
Thanks Ron! It's really bouncing back now that it's cooling down also!
That's a deep green. Helps that your neighbor is the polar opposite or your color as well. Big time pop! Well done!
It's a love/hate relationship with them sometimes. One doesn't have irrigation the other goes dormant instantly even with irrigation. The plan is to renovate hers next year. There goes my domination line 😂
Love to see you guys try and grow a lawn in here in NORTH CAROLINA, Whe I lived in NY ZI had a great lawn here in NC LOL
Wow, what a lawn!! I just got to your channel. Do you use a reel mower? Also, what type of grass is it? I am in NC and I have converted by lawn to Zoysia. Tooks a couple of years but I am pretty much done and very very happy with the results.
Love these videos! I live near Minneapolis and I'm trying to track down a Toro Greensmaster or Deere greens mower. Any tips on tracking one down for a decent price?
I will def check this stuff out . question you think its ok for cenitpead grass ? in sc
Second from Poland :). I'm using the 25-5-5 with Iron. In my country its call "nMax nawoz", also with great result
Thanks for dropping in from overseas! I appreciate you!
jesse, your lawn looks so tight and short. seems everyone tells you to jack your mower all the way up, yet you and Ryan Knorr seen to have very tight grass. can you explain when to jack it up and when to give it the ole high n tight? Love seeing the little guy help. Thx for posting.
Very interesting 🤔 Thanks
I bought a bag and applied it on 9/23/2023. I'm in SE Texas. Let's see!
Keep me updated
I live in New York I use the Andersons PGF complete and in the summer their Green Shocker I spoon feed every 2 weeks I have the best lawn in my area
You could get the same results with a $28 50lb bag of urea. Also green shocker is the biggest waste of money when it comes to nitrogen per $, up there with milorganite.
Just bought some and spread it today. I bought it after I saw your video.
How did it perform m?
Amazing color Jesse! Thanks for sharing. Great video man 👍🏼
I appreciate the support and you always tuning in man! The color is crazy in person.
Your lawn always makes me miss cool season grass. Great video as always Jesse.
Don't worry, I'll be complaining that I want to be where you are this winter... Thanks for always watching Brett. I appreciate the support!
I'll keep my st augustine lawn and never have to see it go dormant in south Florida
Do you have any suggestions on a regular routine for centipede grass..thanks
Really wanted that fert, but shipping to Alaska cost more than the product. On your recommendation I did get seed from them, Everest and Mazama. Did two seeding projects, both times baby grass began to appear by day 7, and it looks superior to the rest of the lawn. Enjoy your content, keep it up.
Fellow Alaskan here. How is that grass holding up? I am about to purchase seed to start pre-germination. Any recommendations would be great! Thanks.
Hi, do u recommend using a slow release lawn fertiliser with a wetting agent like scotts lawn fertiliser?
Very nice results. 👍
It catches me off guard every time!
Great video man! Lawn looks incredible. Love the work and info you put into your videos
Had a question, I haven’t applied any fert in almost 2 months and put down about a pound of N in mid late spring
I’ve had issues with POA and plan on applying pre emergent. I hear faster release N is better for the fall but just wanted to see your opinion
Appreciate it man. Looking forward to the next video!
I would definitely put down fast release fertilizer coming into the fall if you're planning on hitting it hard and regularly. I have a fall nitrogen video from last year that I explain putting down fast release. If you want to hit it only once or twice and be done, slow release might be your friend. Thanks for always tuning in!
Can you use this fertilizer on newly installed (May) Kentucky blue grass blend in Michigan. If you can use it, how long after sod install do you need to wait ? I was planning on waiting 6 weeks and using Milorganite. Thanks.
Great job on your video. I bet your neighbors are jealous how green it looks👍😎. What setting do you use on your fertilizer spreader?
haha...pull up a chair and get an earful from Jesse
Love the stripes!
Thank you!
Can't deny the depth of that color!! Looks great bro!
Thanks Allyn! Appreciate you always watching!
I am at Minnesota as well. So glad see your video. And So glad you are not my neighbor
Great video. Threw this down today. Hoping for good results. Put down with Scott’s edge guard DLX - setting 4. Perfect rate for 2.75lbs per 1000sqft.
Can you keep me updated with your results? I haven't heard from many people, good or bad..
For sure. I’ll send you video and pictures from application to 7,14 and 21 days.
@@Beau-The-Golden thank you! You can email me at lawnlifewithjesse@gmail.com
Get off my lawn! Sheeeesh another banger my guy! Wow the results and your lawn 😩 I got the Sustane and can’t wait to use it in the spring brother! 😊🤙🏾🔥🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
😂😂😂 Glad you got it my guy. Appreciate you tuning in! We all miss your crazy ass bro!
YARDBRAH 💯💪
Hi lawn life man your lawn looks amazing! Listen I have a cool season lawn I live in NY and I have perrinial rye grass. I put down sod perrinial rye grass in my backyard later fall.
My grass look good but I need some advice concerning getting s greener looking grass plus getting rade of a lot of grass seed sprouting to the top of my lawn, they are everywhere. Please help🙏
A couple of questions: what zone do you live in, what type of grass do you have and what height are you mowing? Thanks
Should Sustance replace urea or ammonium sulfate for fall applications?
I am in North East applied Jonhanthan Green Veri-green Fertilizer analysis: 21-0-3 when can I apply this? Love the channel!
What kind of mower setup do you have to get those clean stripes?
Would love a video on the process of converting a TTF/KBG lawn to whatever it is you have. Kentucky geography.
I have a 100% kentucky bluegrass lawn. I have a whole series on renovating that I did last year. There's a few videos that show the start to end process I did. If you're not getting the results you want with your current lawn - your cultivars could be the problem. How old is your lawn? What height are you cutting at?
Looks great but do u recommend it for Northeast florida lawns?
I have been using Simplot's triple 16, what is your opinion of that stuff
Just bought a new house not long ago so I'm a yard noob for sure. I've been watching your videos and came across this one so I decided to grab the Sustane fertilizer (you sold it well lol). My yard could definitely be better; I'm just getting to really be able to see it after our winter (Colorado). I have some perennial ryegrass as well. I was going to level the yard but I'm thinking it's better to wait until fall. We're about to get rain all this week and I'm baffled at what to do. Can I seed and fertilize at the same time before the rain this week? How should I go about this? Thanks for the help!
I’m in Colorado too. You can seed if you want, I’d probably just wait til fall to do that though given how much rain we’ve gotten this season. Just throw down a light dose of slow release fert to get you through the summer.. highly recommend aeration this fall if you haven’t done that, made my yard look significantly better than last year, which was my first year in my new house
Great video! New house with new sod lawn planted august 2021 and finally in a spot to hit it hard right from the beginning of spring this year. Just watched your video on the urea/pre-emergent that you put in the sprayer last year and curious when you would stop spoon feeding the urea and switch to this granular sustain fertilizer. I want to have a game plan for the season especially if I'm going to invest almost $300 to get started. Looking forward to learning more on your channel.
I would do a soil test and see what nutrients you are deficient in before making any decisions on your fertilizer. If you're looking for the best budget route I'd definitely stick with just spoon feeding, if you're deficient in a number of nutrients I would find a fertilizer that fits your needs of those nutrients.
Awesome video! It's been 21 days since I've overseeded would you recommend to reapply starter fertilizer? I was also wondering if it would be a wise choice to use weed and feed fertilizer? Or which fertilizer would you recommend? And when should i apply regular fertilizer?
No need to re apply starter fertilizer.. I’d give it a full month before putting down another round of fert though. Definitely no weed n feed, you will ruin the whole overseed if you use that
Been looking around my area stores, no body handles it, not even on amazon. So, where did you buy it ?
Can you use this after over sedding?
Awesome lawn . You are The Man , If I was half the lawn man you are .I would be twice the lawn man , I am 😊
Where are you located - I mean in which zone? Just wondering about your weather.
Man your lawn looks very leveled!!
It's not as level as it looks lol. Thanks though!
What grass seed did you use for your renovation? And where did you get it ? I am in Minnesota and planning a fall renovation. Was going to go with GCI turf blue heat but it's sold out.
Mazama Everest and Bluebank. I got the mazama and Everest through Twin City Seed. Email me if you want to talk cultivars because that's really what my passion is. I'd love to help you get what you're looking for.
lawnlifewithjesse@gmail.com
How often do you apply in a season?
Does this burn the grass if you get excess in one area? Thanks !
This os fascinating
I live in southeastern PA - how often should I be fertilizing my lawn? I put down Scott’s Triple Action sometime around late April and I haven’t fertilized since. I also didn’t use any pre emergent bc we just got our house and I didn’t know the basics of spring lawn care until after everything started greening up for the season
Your lawn is probably starving by now, definitely hit it again with some fert!
Hi! This is good for Zoisia?
I really liked seeing this video, what are you using for weed control in conjunction with the Sustane?
I'll be putting down Speedzone next week. I have some broadleaf and clover all over. We'll see if the Speedzone can take care of the clover....
damn this lawn is amazing
Would this work in TX ... Need to find a good fertilizer since I haven't found one that works.
I never had issue with larger prill size. What do you think the polka dotting came from for you. Sometimes if you dont water it right in etc but super small prill size is more marketing hype imo
Can this be used on Bahia grass?
What is the mower you use? I'm a new subscriber
Your son is awesome😂 reminds me of my boy!!
Is the product available in Canada? I searched this everywhere but couldn't find any suppliers here!
Sustaine are having some great fertilizers line. I am in love with the 100SGN homogenous ones. But the price kept me away of using their products. AMS and FAS and you get the exact same results for a fraction of the price.
The results obviously say it all. I'm going to use FAS for my nitrogen blitz this fall I think. Never have used it but have been meaning to
What do AMS and FAS stand for? Thanks
@@coryCuc Ammonium Sulfate. And Ferrous ammonium sulfate.
@@Nils-H Thanks!
What nurients are in 18-18 compared to Milogran fertilizer.
How many 50lb bags would you need to cover an acre? I used a fertilizer calculator and it seems to be suggesting a rediculous amount.. would 2 bags be enough?
Great video but what is it about this product that makes it better than Scott's Turf Builder?
Great video! Fellow Minnesotan, question for you. Can I add this and the Pre-emergent at the same time?
Yes you're good to go with both, but you're running behind the 8 ball with the pre emergent. Get it down ASAP
@@LAWNLIFE sounds good. I will get it down tomorrow. Thanks for the quick response.
4:03 I have good eyesight and good color on my computer, but I don't see day/night difference. I see a slightly slightly lighter/fuzzier area in mid screen, but even so, if it had gotten another fert it might be totally unnoticeable.
Cool intro.
How much coverage for this 50# bag? You didn’t mention and twin city does not list coverage.
How often are you throwing this down, every 12-16 weeks like the bag says or more often than that?
You should indicate in the video where the suitcase was. The whole lawn looks great!
Thanks man. Could you not see it when I mentioned it? I thought about outlining it but I could see it pretty clear on my monitor. Thanks for watching!
@@LAWNLIFE I did have trouble seeing it on my phone. Gearing up for my first Fall Blitz! Gud luck this coming fall!
Holy crap that is a beautiful on
Your yard looks like turf! 👍
Where do you buy ?
Hey buddy got a question for you.. so I have a mostly KBG yard with a little perennial rye and I had some spots die on me that are not huge areas. Can I just dethatch that area or are you not supposed to do that? I was hoping the KBG would fill and spread in. I do have seed if you think I should go that route too. If you have time..let me know what you think .. ty!
I would dethatch your lawn and hit it with the fall nitrogen blitz. It'll look like crap right away but in a month or two it should start filling in nicely
@@LAWNLIFE perfect thank you!
Isn't phosphorus illegal in Minnesota? Or is it percentage regulated?
Where do you get sustain 18
Is this good for Bermuda and bahia?
Great looking lawn, but had to comment to say that your logo is very similar to the biker gang symbol on Boba Fett! 😜
Any recommendations on a weed killer that you really love that will get rid of weeds out of grass and not kill the grass or burn it

Where do I buy this fertilizer?
What type of grass is that on your yard?
What were the other fertilizers? Yard master? Titan? Anderson?
How is Nitro-Phos Superturf Fertilizer 19-4-10?
what setting do you set your spreader on for this kind of fert?
They have all the setting recommendations on the manual (online) for this fert
Results are amazing! Pricey for the product since shipping is not included. Looks great thou
That is one of the drawbacks. I can pick it up locally, so I can save there. Totally understand where you're coming from though.
@@LAWNLIFE where can you pick up locally? Same price in store or less?
@@RankUpGamingChannel they're located in Minnesota. They only have one location
@@LAWNLIFE Nice! Will have to try it out. I’ll probably only do 5lb/1,000 not 5.5 is that ok?
Would you recommend this for an early spring fert app?
Second this
Hey bro watched a ton of your videos. Out of all the products you’ve used which is your number 1 pick?
For a fert? Ammonium sulfate.
@@LAWNLIFE well for the dark green. This product or the liquid product?
Can you come help me make my Colorado lawn look that nice? It’s dead in some spots, not growing in most areas, then a few areas that need to be mowed 2-3 times a week, growing like crazy! It’s driving me crazy
Any other ingredients other than n-p-k and iron? Seems like a good product but very pricey. Best fert I’ve ever used was Carbon Earth Products, Carbon X and XGRN. Have you tried any greens grade ferts.
Green grade ferts are pretty expensive as well so I haven't tried them. They're definitely on my list. There's a bunch of other stuff in there (magnesium, zinc, humic acid). Also 50% of the bag is organic matter.
Carbon X worked very well for me but those prill sizes were ridiculous
@@LAWNLIFE …. Yes, CarbonX was not for short cut turf. I used it on my 2” turf and the XGRN on the 1/2”. XGRN was just about greens grade, the size of Scott’s Turf Builder.
Can I put this down with gas seed?
Hello, any suggestions for urine dead spots??? What fertilizer would best combat this problem!??
Thanks in advance……..😎👍👋✌️🇨🇦
